Hi 343!
I’m writing this while thinking that probably it will never reach the ears of the decision-making peoples at 343, but maybe start a discussion with my fellow spartan.
I’m a hardcore fan of the Halo multiplayer, sometime I play casually other games over a weekend, but always come back to my first love! Here is a wishlist of what i’d love to see Halo 5 have in the near future (next monthly update maybe):
-
2v2 ranked playlist: Unfortunately, I don’t have many friends to play with rendering difficult to assemble a full fireteam for team arena. But I always have this buddy of mine that stick to halo with me and we’d like to play 2v2 to avoid randomness of 4v4 (see next point). Also, i’d like to eventually compete in the 2v2 gamebattles ladder on mlg.com, but I never played halo competitively and me and my friend wanna trained in a 2v2 ranked playlist first. Plus, that would be a perfect playlist to practice bait-n-witch, flanking maneuver, etc.
-
Quitting filter: In the last update, 343 added a connection/skill filter for the matchmaking. I played with it a little and I can clearly see a difference (especially for the connection part). What who’d be awesome is a quitting filter. Clearly 343 have data on how much people quit game for them to apply a banhammer. There is noting more frustrating than a teammate quitting in a game ruining by the same way the game experience for the rest of the team. Can’t count how many time that happens to me or the other team. Adding this option in the matchmaking filters would be an awesome addition.
-
More spartan company challenges: I’m now part of team Ninjaz and we are close to the Achilles helmet. When I looked back at it, that challenge really help us build a small community around that goal. Adding more of these kind of challenges would indeed just help the general community to grow I think.
I’m gonna stop here since I don’t want to write an essay. I’m curious about you guys! What’s on your wishlist?
Peace!
All I want is Doubles or 2v2 like you put it. I was really happy when we had it around Christmas and the new year. Unfortunately their data shows it was at low population, if I remember correctly it was number 9 out of 10. With that being said it was removed once the deadline was reached. I was happy to see it comeback around the valentine’s holiday even though it was all on Breakout maps and unranked I still enjoyed it. Now I’m gonna say this, I don’t think the Doubles community are making enough noise for 343 to even consider pushing Doubles out as a permanent ranked playlist. I’m not saying it won’t happen, but I fear they will do it at their own pace. We are close to 8 months since release, I mean how much longer do we have to wait. If I remember correctly Doubles were added to the MCC around the 8th month mark after release. Every time I see a created thread here on waypoint about Team Doubles it never gets more than 20 or so reply, before you know it gets buried. We gotta make our voices heard just like the infection community did. We all need to come together and turn up the volumes so we can be heard.
I agree with numbers one and three, but a “quitting filter” would be such a flawed system. With random server disconnects, internet disruptions, and just general Xbox shenanigans, that sounds like it’d be too ridiculous. How many quits does it take for someone to get filtered out? 10? 20? Do they have data on when someone quits vs. how many times the server disconnects them? Can they differentiate between the two, and somehow incorporate that into the filtering process? How do Betrayals factor in? What about Betrayals from Grifball? Do these accidental Betrayals factor into the filtering process?
All of this sounds like too much of a headache, and I’d rather them not spend the time working on this when they can spend their time fixing more important issues. Quitting is a problem, yes, but there’s plenty of things you should consider before suggesting a workaround.
Considering the 2v2 forge map contest that was conducted a couple months ago, I feel like that will introduce a possibility of a 2v2 gamemode. Would really be nice to add in for the arena playlist.

Nicely said!

I agree with your concerns. During the sad days that was before Halo 5 I was playing Destiny and Bungie claimed that they could see the difference between someone who quit compare to someone who lagged out. My guess is that 343 can also. Also, I would not include the betrayal in the filter since it’s pretty rare that a random in the team get so mad that he’s starting to betray on purpose. At least, it’s way more rare than the quitting.
