Wishes for Halo 4 - Community Discussion

I just hope that you(343 Industries) won’t include any Armor Abilities, because it’s just more “halo” without them, they should just use an increased movement speed to get somewhere a little faster, because even sprint is abused in reach(Sprint,Double Beatdown).

the other armor abilities aren’t fun either IMO, don’t flame me about this, it’s my opinion.

Armor Lock, for example, is the most hated AA, and it’s very cheap, what was bungie thinking? hey let’s include a super awesome invincible ability! they should’ve kept the Overshield.

Active Camo should’ve been a powerup too, because moving around is useless now and you only need to move a little and some people can see you across the map.

Jetpack, it’s all fun and stuff, but it breaks map control way too easy which has always been an important aspect of halo.

the dropshould should’ve been a bubble shield pickup, using it once is enough safety, which adds more strategy because you need to choose when to activate it.

Hologram seems just useless, I’ve never seen someone fell for a hologram ingame.

and there’s evade, it’s my favorite AA because I think it’s the most balanced one, but I think it should be removed because players should be able to avoid danger this easy.

I also hope you will bring back the BR, don’t start hating, I have arguments. I think they should bring it back, because it may be a little OP, but that’s only when skilled people used it.
for example, in Halo Reach Player A faces Player B, Player B is less skilled then Player A. player B shoots the first shot because his reactions are much faster, Player A spams the trigger and walks away.
this never actually happened with the Battle Rifle, the more skilled players always killed the less skilled players in a one on one battle, sometimes they don’t because sometimes there are network problems, but that’s the servers fault, not the system.

I also think that in Halo 4, there should be more symmetrical maps like The Pit, Narrows, Sanctuary and Beaver Creek.
there also should be more maps like Timberland(Halo Combat Evolved), games on that map were always interesting.
I’d also love to see Guardian making a comeback.
there should also be more maps for 1 way objective gameplay where vehicles like the mongoose can even make the difference.

I just hope you can bring back the “halo feeling”.
I’m talking about simple, fast paced, and skill based gameplay.

please exclude armor abilities, maybe add equipment for objective gametypes, but not in slayer gametypes.

In my many posts now on this site, your post essentially mirrors them. I hope for this as well! As well as a return to the Halo “feel” that most everyone loves. Reach’s gameplay is pretty much a lost cause for me at this point and I’ve gone back to Halo 3, which actually says a lot because even though I didn’t like Halo 3 as much as my favorite game of all time for Multiplayer: Halo 2 (mainly because of netcode/BR spread) I still never really went back to Halo 2 in the way I did from Reach back to 3.

They messed with the golden triangle in both 3 and Reach: Instead of Melee, Weapons, Grenades… They turned it into: Melee,Weapons,Grenades,AA/Equipment. It throws it off, the players, weapons and strats/teamwork should be the difference maker, not the rock/paper/scissors AA’s/Equipment.

And bloom, well I don’t think it was the right thing to do in the Halo series, maybe for another game yeah, but bloom just adds too much randomness into Halo along with the darn AA’s.

That said, I would much prefer Equipment over AA’s like you said in objective but not slayer.

And the simple,fast paced gameplay that’s it! that’s the golden formula, it lets the players create the game, when you add too many things it just becomes a huge mess.

i want to some oldschool stuff like the br its the best gun bungie made in halo. i like the dmr but not as much as the br , the dmr just aint as fun to use. true skilled players halo would rather use the br more than the dmr, its the better gun.i would like to see some new things in halo 4 ill list my ideas.

an actual weather system u can put in forge you can choose between different weather effects.

i want to see rain drops actuallly hit your heads up display so like while you are playing rain drops will hit your visor,it would just give it a more authentic feel.

i want to see some night time multiplayer maps where you CAN use your night vision, reach had a cool feature where you could use it in firefight but not in muliplayer, i wish to see that.

a complete body armor customization just like the one guy said first about doing EVERYTHING to your spartan.

i want to see the br again in halo 4

i want to see bigger teams in halo 4 like 12v12 or 16v16 i mean come on now we are talking about mass action im a big team lover i just think it woud make it even more fun to have more action in it , i mean come on in reach you had these HUGE maps that should have had ATleast 12v12 to 16v16 and 8v8 just didnt do it or these big maps we NEED more action in big team.

mlg was just a waist in reach its not the fun awesome mlg it used to be in halo 3, i mean literallly why would you put armor abilities in a hard core playlist when armor abilities are not hardcore it takes away from the skill.

i want to be able to scope in with weapons while riding passenger like in halo 1.

Hey guys some awesome ideas!

I would be for the return of cooler equipment even though I didn’t really like equipment or AA’s… but just keep the equipment out of the more competitive playlists, maybe just limit it to objective games?

I also would like to see the return of the BR, or just return of Bloom-less precision weaponry. Also the return of Master Chief would be quite amazing, haha. They could keep bloom on automatic weapons which would make a lot of sense as it would help balance the automatic weapons.

But putting bloom on DMR,Needle Rifle, Sniper, and Pistol was a bad move. These are the guns where randomness impacts the most and makes for a non-fun, frustrating gaming experience.

Well, I heard that there’s gonna be a Halo 5? It’s on Machinima.com.

For the next halo game I would love to have to interactive maps, this is something I posted on Bungie for Reach which never happened. I liked rushing quickly to open the gate on high ground to get a mongoose in and drive out with the flag. Or in long bridge, one person ghosts over to open bridge, one person gets grav lift, and one gets flag for a great escape. They encouraged team work (although mainly among friends)

In reach I think my favourite game play would be big team have vehicles wars. I Reckon reach has pretty much enough vehicles but more would still be nice. There needs to be more big team maps. There’s only 4 big maps in reach and I would love more.

With warthog’s I’ve noticed that often both drivers die and then the gunners are left to fight it out, or one driver dies but then the other gunner kills your driver. I reckon damage to drivers by hitting the vehicle should be reduced as they die faster than the gunner, even though the gunner is more in the open. Weapons are good, the DMR evened out the over powered BR (sorry!!)

I don’t think anything like attachments need to be added, I’m like Halo being a simple game for fun.

My main issue with weapons is covenant weapons, they just seem to get weak, not have the range and in elite vs Spartan game types you almost have no chance. I’d love to get a wheelmanable (lol) covenant vehicle

Im happy with armour abilities in reach at the moment, however you could add in some new ones and tweak the current ones, maybe even make different armour abilities for each game type (eg you can sprint longer in big team or something)

Game types in reach are great , I love capture the flag and rocket hog race, invasion might need some tweaking but overall I like the game types.

Id like more extra’s added to the game, Like being able to lean the ripped off turrets on mongooses, have a 1% chance of deflating a tire when shooting a warthogs wheels. Just add random things to the game, they might not even happen often but they make the game seem cool when you do them.

Assassinations were a awesome idea, I love getting one. please keep them and expand on them, thanks :slight_smile:

ofcourse there will be a Halo 4, and I believe the CE remake is just a rumor , sadly.

I agree that armor abilities should go. But many people may see this as a step down from Reach. I don’t, I really don’t mind either way. But they could have gone about it in a better fashion.

I agree that they should have put more thought into the AAs.
What’s more annoying then a Sprint-Double-Beatdown…

to me, it looks like bungie put them in for the less skilled players, but as I stated before : it’s not fair that a far more skilled player can lose a one on one DMR battle because of an AA such as evade or armor lock. and to make it even more unfair, there’s bloom…

You’ll get derankers in any game honestly. I used to derank in Halo 2 for the lulz.

On topic - I see a lot of posts about what they want the next halo game to be. It seems like most people want Halo 3.5. I’m sure whenever Halo 4 is released, it’ll be a good game. However, I don’t want it to be Halo 3.5. Obviously I want it to be a Halo game, but I don’t want to be playing the same game as in 2007, just with better graphics and a similar story. Will they bring back the BR? Possibly and I’d be fine with that. Like I said though, in my opinion, I’d want something fresh, seeing as it’d be Halo 4. I just hope Microsoft doesn’t milk the franchise.

Halo 3.5 would be fine with me.

Get rid of Evade it’s just makes elites fly across the map in invasion.

If Halo 4 turns out to be something like Halo 3.5, that’d honestly be fine with me. I’d rent/buy it and if I don’t like it, I’d stop playing it. I’m sure whatever Halo 4 turns out to be, it’ll be good.

Taking into the account the plausibility of John and Cortana meeting the Forerunner race, you could expect some strange additions to the Halo sandbox. Honestly, I have no problems with Armor Abilities in Halo: Reach, it’s only Armor Lock that is somewhat of an annoyance.

*No AAs or rebalance them. We all know Bungie copy-pasted from Crysis, but made them worse and even less balanced :frowning:
If they stay, they need some serious work. Camo = camping, sprint = slow game, dropshield = objective holding/camping, Armor lock = camping, camping, lag :confused:

  • Dedicated servers, please! :smiley:
    No more host, host selection, blackscreen, bad connections. With dedicated servers all you need for a good experience is 120kb/s free bandwidth (confirmed by Kaos Dan). We can choose gametype, maps, map rotation, it doesn’t matter if people quit, we can kick cheaters, re-balance teams… = winwin :wink:
    I would even pay for the ability to play without lag, so please offer it. It can co-exists next to matchmaking p2p for those who want a fast game.

  • Normal wepaons shouldn’t destroy vehicles, or only make very limited damage
    In Reach, it’s a bad idea to get in a vehicle unless it’s a power vehicle like banshee or tank, since they’re to easily destroyed by a few DMR shots.
    We had anti-vehicle weapons for a reason, Spartan, plasma pistol, grenade, missile pod worked much better then relying on 1 sniper to get the job done. Not to mention that the sniper can’t snipe other players if he got anti-vehicle duty :frowning:

*Custom games online.
Let us play custom games online, it wouldn’t hurt anyone. With dedicated servers we can choose to host and have customs games just for fun, and those who want to could join in :slight_smile:

  • Splitscreen-support for all playlists
    This is a major thing, 2 player splitscreen should be supported in all playlists, and 4 player in most if not all, with dedicated servers 1 player + 3 guests would never be a problem.

  • Good, original campaign that fits closely to cannon, and epic battles!
    The biggest letdown in Reach was the bland campaign, the number of AIs you saw on the screen at the same time was really low, and there was nearly no vehicular battles, compared to previous games.
    Even exploration was severly limted, a railshooter/corridor chooter which is CoD, not halo. :frowning:

  • Dedicated servers, so important it deserves to be mentioned twice :slight_smile:

  • 32 player online, or 64.
    Perfect dark could do it, frontlines, Homefront and other games. With dedicated servers you don’t have to limit the online experience due to bad networking in some countries, 120kb/s is all that is necessary for a player to have a 32 player game without lag (if the ping is somewhat good)

  • Rework bloom
    Bloom/recoil was a good idea, to bad it never worked as intended. A better solution would be to have very limited bloom for Assalut rifle or amp up the damage, have much blooom for BR/DMR but let it reset faster, and make sure that most bullets hit the outer part of the ring, not the inner.

  • No DMR/BR/AK47/Jack of all trades gun
    Sorry Bungie, but having a sandbox where 1 gun rules them all is the opposite of balance and good gameplay. the Br ruled in Halo 2/3, but the DMR in Reach is even better. Spam at close range for a fast kill, or shot semi-fast and you can snipe across the map. The gun has no weakness…
    Ranged guns should have more zoom, much more bloom, and fire much slower. A BR/DMR shouldn’t stand a chance against pistol/spiker/AR in close-mid range. It should dominate on mid-long instead.

  • Lessen melee damage and remove/lessen lounge
    Yes, we all know how fun it is to fly and melee people meters away in Halo and CoD, but it’s not a good mechanism per se. Seriously, why use Any Mid range weapon like plasma rifle or assault rifle when you can melee and get a fast kill in half the time at the same effective distance?
    AR, Plasma rifle, spiker, they’re all quite useless because long rang weapons like DMR/Needle Rifle beats them all the time at mid-rand, and at close a single melee does. Bad balance and not fun :frowning:
