Wish They Never Brought Cortana Back Fromthe dead

I started playing Halo with Halo 4 and I thought the story was pretty good, and I know a lot of people don’t like it but I thought it was really good. Anyways personally I loved the ending and I now feel like it was wasted bringing her back, never mind the fact that there was no mystery about it (it’s like yeah a war hero, who from the looks of the start of Halo 4 has P.T.S.D. has seen a vision of Cortana and we are all going to belive him. Sorry getting off topic). I would like to know was this actually a good idea or did it just make Halo 4s campaign (and a lot of the other ones) pointless.
Please let me know/

Yeah, in all honesty Cortana in H5? You might as well have just defeated Didact in H4 and rolled credits. H4’s ending has no weight any more, which is a shame because it’s the only Halo game where Chief isn’t your hollow army-killing one-liner machine in the game.

Actually I still stand by my opinion that Cortana didn’t officially die in H4. While she was dying and told Chief to fix her they had to get back to Dr. Halsey. Fast forward to the end of H4. After Master Chief set the nuke off and Cortana pulled him into where ever they were all she told Chief was she wasn’t going with him this time… It was assumed she died, but did any one really witness her death? I don’t mind that she was brought back but I don’t like how she is essentially becoming the antagonist. But at the end of the day yeah not many liked H4 story even more didn’t like H5s… 343 has their work cut out for them story wise that is for sure.

I think there was a rumor saying some MS higher ups wanted her back since they were releasing the Cortana digital assistant app on phones.

My theory is that Cortana did die. if you remember the last mission of Halo 4, Cortana was creating imperfect clones of herself to overwhelm the system. I think one of those clones found its way into the Domain, deluded itself into believing it was the original, recruited Warden Eternal, and went communist dictator all over the galaxy.

I like that👍

I don’t like how they brought back Cortana in Halo 5. Partially because they brought her back as a villain, which was so uncharacteristic for her, and partially because they did it too soon. It be one thing if they had teased her survival as the legendary ending in Halo 5, but instead we get smacked with “I’m still alive!” in Mission 2. And yes, part of it is also that alot of Halo 5 seemed to ignore Halo 4 or make Halo 4 seem pointless.

I’m personally fine with Cortana coming back from the dead. Here’s why:

  1. I agree with Caroniver here. Cortana (or some part of her) didn’t actually die. She just slipped into the Domain. Forerunner ships (I believe) are linked to the Domain so she may have found that link while exploring the ship.
  2. In regards to her being a villain, I think it makes sense. (If I recall properly) rampancy has several times been described as having a god-complex as a symptom. I think a short story or something describing exactly what happens to an AI during rampancy would help clear things up because other than AI “think themselves to death” we really don’t have a clue (at least that I’ve heard of).
  3. (this might not make much sense sorry in advance) It is my personal belief that Cortana needed to come back. The only time we see any character development in Chief whatsoever (in games at least) is when Cortana is around. Without Cortana, he’s just a BA super soldier who slaughters a bunch of aliens. With Cortana, he’s a BA super soldier who slaughters a bunch of aliens and also has a few extra layers to his character, like defying orders in Halo 4. If we’re going to have an entire saga focused around Chief, we really need to see some development from his character or else the story would get kinda boring. We saw Chief’s development with losing Cortana in Halo 4, now we get to see him develop with her betrayal in 5 and Infinite. Will he kill her? Will he sacrifice himself to try and save her? Who knows, but imo anticipating stuff like that is a lot more intriguing than any other option I can think of without Cortana. To me, having to watch Chief’s heartbreak watching Cortana “die” in 4, move on, feel the joy of her returning, only to be completely heartbroken again by her betrayal was a lot more emotional than if she had just stayed dead. Sorry if I rambled a bit but the tl;dr is I think Cortana is a necessary character for Chief’s development so I’m fine that she’s back.

I like the character development but I feel as though it was wasted
