Wish list for next Halo game

my wish list for the next Halo game as stated above, please post your ideas in the comments.

Campaign
-actually have a Halo ring in the game, its been since Halo 3 that we have been on one and I would be sad to see another game were a Halo is not included.

  • Make the unsc less powerful, I think destroying the Infinity would be perfect it would make the unsc feel less unstoppable as well as killing most the spartans making spartans feel more like our last hope. bring back a more traditional look to the unsc.
  • bring back the arbiter
    -Finding skulls

Matchmaking
-call it matchmaking
-take all references to the campaign or storyline out let spartan ops and campaign be there own thing not influenced by MP. The only thing that connecting MP to canon does is cut down your options on what you do with it.
-have full playlist ready on launch
-community playlist
-social playlist
-ranked playlist
-sub categories for each playlist

  • either dlc required playlist or player search preferences that support dlc
  • boost max player count
  • having both a spartan and odst playable for multiplayer
  • ability to play as elites
  • being able to vote for night/day version of a map

Music

  • Include music from original trilogy, yes keep some tracks from Halo 4 but for the most part bring back those iconic soundtracks
  • use soundtracks the proper soundtrack at the right time, there was times in Halo 4’s campaign where I was scratching my head asking why would they use this here when an original soundtrack would fit perfectly

Gameplay
-make Halo Halo again there is a reason Halo 4 has such a low population and its because 343 went way to overboard with having to change everything in the Halo universe just for the sake of change, you have or had an amazing community and they will come back if you do the right thing and return halo to its roots; so in other words bring back movement speed and jump height ect… of Halo 3
-Character boarding Character boarding

  • bring back dual wielding it worked in Halo 3 it will work again
    -ability to change player traits such as sprint and perks
    -perks taken out of all but infinity playlist’s and custom games

    -being able to navmesh forge maps to support AI!!!
    -being able to raise water levels like a hill marker

  • if at all possible a map editor similar to farcry 3’s

TheaterMode
-ability to watch campaign sessions again
-ability to have more than one person viewing a video(can’t remember if it is like this)

Enemies

  • all prometheans enemies and more, possibly a hunter like entity with an enforcer like shield on the arm and a energy beam like a monitor that charges or can switch to a semi automatic beam

Firefight

-its only logical that they would keep this although I don’t like it myself

Customgames
-it is crucial to make custom games as free as possible let people customise gametypes as much as they can
-Make a custom games search this would be player hosted and not contribute to multiplayer for obvious reasons
-example of game type customisation, player trait, player stick to vertical objects true. This would allow players to walk on the sides of walls

Weapons AA’s and equipment
-bring all variants of these back for custom’s and forge at least
-ability to change weapon AA and equipment traits

Armour
-Make armour practical and “realistic” looking again, the armour in Halo Reach looked both good and something real military units would use; yes some armours were a bit bulky but thats what spartans are big masses of steel and flesh ready to destroy all in their path

Vehicles
-again bring back all vehicle variants for custom games and forge!
-give the ability to colour all vehicles and add emblems as well as add damage upon spawn of the vehicle
-able to spawn elephant

Some other Ideas
-Horde like gametype as seen in gears of war except Halo obviously
-space combat, this was just about in reach and it would be awesome to have

planning to add more to list later! please leave comments and thoughts below and if I overlooked something.

Campaign:I really don’t have an opinion about campaign because 343i did really well with the halo 4’s campaign.

Forge: This is the one i care about. Halo 3 to halo reach was a HUGE improvement. It blew me out of the park when i saw the Vidoc that bungie did about Forgeworld. That’s what i want for the next halo. I don’t want something crazy like a map editor but i do want it to be crazy good. A map editor just ruins halo and takes all the “AWWWW” out of the maps. But i like the idea of skins and being able to make caves. But i think they need to be able to spawn that stuff not cut it out of the ground. Forge has a lot of potential and halo 4’s is in my opinion pathetic. Don’t get me wrong it’s good but it could be SOOOO much better. Don’t let me down for the next halo.

Custom Games: This is the kicker, I am a huge casual a player and custom games is what makes halo special to me. It what makes halo stand out to all the others. And that is why the next halo has to be good. Halo 4’s sucks and i find myself playing halo reach more then anything else because halo reach Custom Games is really good. In my opinion combine halo 3, reach, and 4’s custom games. Don’t get rid of anything. But add a heck of a lot more customization’s. People say AA’s or sprint or perks killed halo and they may be right about Multiplayer but that stuff is gold in custom games. Keep everything just make it optional. I believe it will bring halo back.

Multiplayer: I am not competitive at all but i know the halo community is a huge group of competitive people. So bring back the classic halo 3 style, gun, melee, and grenade. Center it around that but with different weapons and grenades. Nothing else, no perks, no aa’s. Keep them just don’t put it in every playlist. Also bring back a good halo 3 style ranking system. but only for the classic playlist. then leave all the new and not competitive ones alone.

This might actually be a really good Idea, gives 343 more time to work on the other parts of the game while letting someone else handle the multiplayer aspect Hmm…

Most of the generic stuff was mentioned above. I’ll add some specific things I thought should’ve been included in Halo 4 that were taken out since Halo 3.

EDIT: To raise the stakes, items in RED are mandatory or I will NOT be buying Halo XB1.

Campaign:

  • Finding skulls
  • Better friendly AI

Multiplayer:

  • In-game CSR
  • Military ranks
  • Separation of ranked and social playlists
  • EXP win-based ranking system
  • Playlist breakdown by CSR level (H3 had this)
  • Playercards to match the color of their Spartan’s primary, instead of all blue
  • Vertical playercards on the right side of the screen
  • Search preferences (language, best connection)
  • Bring back all emblems
  • Visible playercards while changing playlists
  • Less armor permutations, “quality over quantity”
  • Worldwide player map in War Games menu (H3 had this)
  • White Mic icon over a player’s tag while in-game

I agree with all of your ideas (I loved a lot the custom weather and time of day of MP maps one). Another things I’d like to see are:
Campaign:
-The return, besides of the Arbiter, of other classic characters like Jun, Lord Hood, Rtas’Vadum (the Shipmaster), maybe the squad of H3 ODST, etc.
-A very-big battle on an urban environment.
-Finding of skulls, Terminals and Other Objects with significance on the story (like the collectables on GoW 3)

Gameplay:
-The return of certain weapons like the SMG, the Flamethrower, the Plasma Rifle and the Spiker
-Following the last point, Dual Wielding isn’t a bad idea.
-More variety of vehicles. (I’d like to drive the Halo Wars vehicles)

Firefight:
-This should be like the ODST variant, not like the Reach one.

Customization:
-Armors should be more “Reach-stylized”. The H4 ones just sucks
-Much more weapon-skins variety, and this system must be like GoW3 or MW3 style.
-Customization of the vehicles skins
-Please 343, can you bring back the Armor Effect?

Others:
-Maybe a “Coliseum” arena with multiple battles at once
-More playlist with “Classic Rules”, (not AA, default equipments, you know, something like the H3 matches)

I think having both a spartan avatar and a odst would be awesome, the odst would be for certain game types like swat and your spartan would be for normal game types, it would add more depth to the multiplayer and give you more stuff to work towards.

That… actually sounds pretty interesting. I’d love to play as an ODST in SWAT (maybe give us the SOCOM Magnum from Halo 3:ODST as well?) Maybe even make a few new variants of classics like Slayer or CTF with ODSTs (no shields would make it more tactical and require more teamwork). If in such modes, we got the Silenced SMG and SOCOM Magnum, they could even change the way motion tracker works (if not removing it entirely from such gametype variants). This would also be a very popular decision for many fans, and especially machinimators.

Exactly, you could do so much with it and the armour customization would be pretty sweet.

There’s no way we’re getting ALL of what you asked for. We won’t see ALL the MP gametypes coming back (hopefully we’ll see most of them), we definitely won’t get all the weapons and vehicles from all the games (even if just for Forge and Customs). Playing an ODST in MP is a bit of a dumb idea, all we really need is the ODST armor (which I think we’ll get). There are a few other points I disagree with, but generally I hope 343i gets as much of what you asked for as possible (I agree with you on most points).

Thanks, but I don’t feel that anything I mentioned is out of the question especially seeing as its going to be a next gen game plus I feel as though I got ripped off with halo 4 and I’m not the only one, so they need to make up for their mistakes and giving loads of content for the next game would do it.

Because you could just change the Spartan’s traits instead. All we need is to get the ODST armor in the box, as we should have with Halo 4.

Why are all of these things a bit irrational? The fact that this is the next generation doesn’t really mean the developers have infinite time and resources and can create twice as much content. All it means is that everything they make will be much better and they will have an easier time making it.

Halo is already a bigger game than any other shooter out there, offering a great Campaign with a compelling story, Multiplayer that has a little something for everyone in its vast array of gametypes (even Halo 4, which is considered a disappointment on this front) with plenty of its own unique maps, loads of options to create custom games and a Forge mode to create custom maps. This alone is more than any other game has to offer. Then you’ve got to add Theater (which definitely isn’t a given) and of course Spartan Ops/Firefight which are huge in and of themselves. This is not an easy task to accomplish, no matter how big the company and no matter how good the hardware. And 343i has TWO YEARS. That is less than any Halo game before it.

For many people, Halo 5 will define their continued relationship with the series: this is THE make-or-break game and 343i last chance to prove that they can do justice to the menacing task which is a Halo game. I would rather have them focus on the already huge least of features instead of drowning themselves with new material. They need to bring back Reach’s custom games and create a more upfrontly appealing Multiplayer. They have to make a truly next gen Campaign that expands and enhances the Halo 4 experience tenfold. They need to make Theater great again, like Halo Reach (but with party viewing) and Forge needs to get a complete overhaul to become a truly amazing tool. They need to make a choice between SpOps and Firefight and improve those experiences as well. Doing both would kill the game IMO. The same applies for bringing back all the vehicles, weapons, equipment and abilities. This is not a manageable task for a game with so much else on its plate.

A lot of your suggested gametypes just require simple stat changes (so that shouldn’t be an issue) and this should actually be the one place we agree on. Halo 4 offered an extremely unsatisfying set of gametypes at launch, especially compared to the robust offerings included in Halo Reach. Not only did they remove the fun new additions like Invasion and Stockpile but they removed gametypes that have been with us as long as I remember (Assault, One Flag CTF, Juggernaught…). Halo multiplayer was about variety, and most of it was gone in Halo 4. I also agree with pretty much everything you said about the Campaign.
