Is it just me or the new maps are ugly? The textures are dull, there are no decoration, no plants, no object, no tubes on wall, nothing, it just feels blank. Feels like the kind of map I would make with Forge. Feels like an alpha preview map. I’m not complaining about the level design itself, it is decent, and I like the space background in Argyle, but that’s it. There seems to be no ambience, no spirit in those maps, as if they weren’t finished. We had maps with glasses and windows, showing tons of exotic plants, we had water powered station with turbine and nice stuff to look at, streets with many objects, fruits crates, arcades, light effect, puddle, etc. Every single map before these two new maps seems alright in term of making them look alive. Why are those two new maps so empty? Did they change the employee behind the aesthetic?
Even the glass platform in Argyle has absolutely no texture, no reflection, it just looks like we are standing in mid air, yet, the glass wall underneath (where you can see players climb up), there is texture on this one, as if the window was a bit dirty. Everything look a bit out of place, as if nothing make sense, those levels couldn’t be real places where actual people in Halo’s World would go, work, fight, explore, etc.
Sorry then, but I still miss your point… if they use prefab assets, it does explain why it feels off. It’s not 100% made for how they were thinking the new maps.
I’m not sure what to think about all this though… are all the new maps, that will come in new seasons, be made that way as well? If so… bad news for me… this would be a major turn off. Halo is about the aesthetic and atmosphere, it is what made the first Halo “magic”, unique and special. The exoticness of futuristic ancient world, mixed with the military sci-fi… not some generic metal plate placed here and there…
homie forge maps have always felt kind of bland, especially in Reach. The greatest complaint about Reach’s forge was how it was ALL on ONE map, the tileset was the same without change for two years, and it was all… So boring and grey.
Halo 4 wasn’t a huge step up but 5 was - and this is far, far greater.
I do remember now the Halo Reach maps that all used the same background xD but I admit, back in the days, never felt like it was something bad, loved some of those maps! I guess I was just scared that they went that route for the rest of Halo Infinite… I’m really in-between with this game, and I don’t want to be disapointed… The number one thing that disapoint me is seeing all the disapointed players.
The new maps, all 2 of them, a year into release, and seriously, these maps should have blown people away, but nope, this was in fact the Big Winter Update! Both maps are very similar, and yes aesthetically, blank. I don’t know what has happened, but to me, it’s as if 343 fire up some old software to create this game with, because there doesn’t appear to be any growth.
It wouldnt surprise me if they have to complete the maps in on session or it wont work.
Just look at the names of the map when the game starts, feels like beta or alpa maps.
And they cant probably fix the maps once its uploaded.
The engine maybe isnt broken but the tools are.
I know they’re Forge maps but they’re still uninspiring to look at. Maybe I am being too fussy but I want the official maps to be better looking like the other maps. If I want to play on Forge map then that should be a separate playlist.
My honest first reaction to the Forge map I loaded into (not sure the name), I wanted to leave it and re-queue.
