Winter update after Worlds was a huge misstep

Yet another fumble.
The winter update should have happened before this weekend. There are hundreds if not thousands reinstalling the game after an exciting weekend of Halo Esports. This was a blown opportunity to get the Halo Population thriving again.

Instead you’re seeing people reinstalling the game going “I haven’t played in nearly a year. They still didn’t add anything? why is my PC still crashing on this game only??” then they uninstall again or just don’t play.

Interestingly enough, the uptick in PC crash reports lead to a rushed PC only update which dropped earlier today. It’s the 1st update halo has gotten in over 2 MONTHS

Whoever is in charge of the roadmap going forward must be well versed in Business Strategy & Consumer Behavior.

loaded up steam, updated, launched game and guess what?

froze on “press enter to play”

great update.

edit, tried second launch, froze on menu screen.

ffs…CAN THEY NOT GET ANYTHING RIGHT?

pc just got a mini patch on steam.

Submit a bug report. Probably were fixing (or working on) a different bug and it broke something on your PC. Can’t really blame them since every PC is different.

You can, and should blame them.

I have lots of PC games, and it’s fairly unusual that an update breaks the game. Except 343i games, those are constantly “frooped” up.

Anyone that paid any attention to Halo Esports last weekend is likely still active in the game. So, i don’t think there is much of a missed opportunity here, maybe a little one.

on steam discussions someone always chimes in blames your pc and says “works fine for me”

igorance is bliss i guess.

everytime the game freezes and alt+tab and look in task manager and see a second process of haloinfinte.exe and dumptool. it’s random the crashing and freezing on this game. i can go without days or even a week or two. usually it freezes a few times on launch after a patch has been applied.

mcc never freezes after a patch and i rarely have issues on that game, the occasional UE fatal error on the menus.

343 are masters at bad coding.

i hope the winter update is all it’s cracked up to be and blows all our minds.

but i have have my bag of salt to take a pinch from just in case.

The real misstep is that neither of the new maps are snow themed.

I don’t know about launching the winter update right before world’s unless you’re thinking words would be played on the old build.

Since the winter update has sandbox changes, it would have messed with the competition to have weapons suddenly behave differently than every other competition/ exhibition

On top of that alot of other game releases are coming up. At this point it doesn’t matter if your a Halo player, gamers are just looking for something new and refreshing. I mean Elden Ring killed it when it released. Now 343 has to compete with an onslaught of various releases back to back.

By itself the winter update sounds cool but when compared to other game releases, like Pokemon Scarlet sounds cooler than the winter update. In the FPS world you have both MW2 and Warzone dropping.

Alot of the meatier stuff like a new weapon, gamemodes, Season, aren’t coming until march.

There is also the question as to why is it going to take until march to just drop in a feature like report players in game.

Alot of things still concern me.

Also no one is bringing up the fact that with each update comes more bugs… 343 last year left the Game broken and went on vacation… We could have a repeat of that

I guess I can’t really speak anyways, since I play on Xbox. But it is always a possibility, I particularly see it on BeamNG mods and even updates.

I’m right here with you on this one.

Also, as a PC player I’ve only had a few game crashes in the last couple of months. I’m very happy with whatever is actually going on.

LOL, no. Patches and updates very frequently introduce a slew of new breaks and bugs. This is absolutely not an issue isolated to just 343i games.

And we know from last year of this update wrecks the game they will still just go on vacation maybe leave a skeleton crew and probably won’t sena fix till mid January.

Not to me rion they are launching Forge as a Beta, so they expect it to be buggy. It could end up being broken.

Co op campaign could end up being broken. Once these two things go live it’s really unpredictable no matter how much testing they do internally.

For all we know it may not actually be ready but they can’t afford to delay it any longer.

Who knows man, all I say is keep your expectations very low.

Funny how there is “hundreds if not thousands” of people supposedly reinstalling this game yet it continues to sit at the number 26 spot on Xbox most played games list while also providing no new player numbers on steam charts either.

I think it’s safe to say that people who already play Halo Infinite are the ones watching worlds and everyone else thinking about returning are smart enough to wait for the winter update. Don’t see who this is another “blown opportunity.”

Bruh, I got MW2 and Warzone 2 for the next few months, I’m smart enough to wait for March… remember updates for 343 break stuff… They go on winter vacation at best stuff gets fixed Mid January… God forbid they delay season 3
