I wouldn’t even say it’s a lack of creativity, it’s just simply a fool’s errand. Think about it.
There’s 3 ways MTX’s can go down.
Create a crap ton of content whether it’s meaningful or not. This is how you end up with a bunch of duplicate items or things that look very similar or just flat out silly. It’s a create and people will buy it philosophy.
Only create truly meaningful items. Stuff people will adore. This road is rarely travelled because it’s hard. Creativity only goes so far and eventually you’re run out of ideas, and thus, things to sell.
Combine 1 & 2: Create a ton of items that are all extremely unique and special. This would be unbelievably unsustainable.
So most companies opt for #1 and just try to get a quick buck on an emblem that took some intern 1 minute to make.
One problem that I’m hoping gets tackled at some point is the disconnect between XP and collectibles. As it stands the Battle Passes - free or not - are the only place to spend XP, and are even fragmented from there with Event XP being the only XP applied to Event collections.
Once the Pass is completed, or once the Event is over, there’s virtually no use for XP whatsoever. Solvable in making non-tiered objects in the Armor Hall (and elsewhere) purchasable with XP. Hell, even if they’re made significantly higher to “suggest” the Store as a shortcut (since Microsoft won’t be letting that one go) that would still offer incentive to play for players who’s primary focus is inventory completion. It would also entirely eliminate FOMO.
I’ve never missed an event like this, personally. I think the only one I didn’t finish was the synthwave one. Sort of regret that, but alas. Every other one I’ve played to completion.
Exactly. XP boosts are literally unusable when you’ve completed your BP and stuff. Like I literally can’t use a swap even if I wanted to (which is a good thing so you don’t accidentally waste one). But that’s the issue, they’re handing out these items of such little value that there’ll be entire months where it collects dust. At least a challenge swap could come in handy on any given week.
Given the multiple threads and posts about slow BP progress, frustrating challenges, missing content, expiry dates on free BP access, and general FOMO panic.
Have you seen ANYTHING Destiny related in the last 10 years? That thing is a bad designed cash grab that ELIMINATES items after you buy them with read money
I know I like the mark VII I like the cat ears, I think the robot orc looking armors are strange looking… my teamates shoot me often because of my cat ears… predictable are the majority… love that I am an original.
That’s why Match XP is in a beta test for now. Once they finally add a Career Progression, Match XP should have more importance instead of just “finishing the BPs or Events faster.” I didn’t know these things needed to be completed even faster than they already can be, but whatever
It’s complete and utter BS. It would have been super easy to generate at least some good will by just putting in the rest of the Reach Armor/Coatings in this 30-tier pass. But nope, here’s 343 always consciously making poor decisions and further ruining the game. And no level of basic instruction on how to make good decisions seem to get them to wake up. It’s absolutely frustrating.
Instructions like, “Get rid of all XP Boosts/Challenge Swaps. Replace them with Coatings/Visors/Armor Pieces.” and “Combine Two Shoulder Pieces into One Tier.” You know, basic instructions that would actually enrich the battle pass with actual content.
Maybe this kind of condescension from consumers is to blame. “Instructions” (demands) isn’t the way to get stuff. Additionally it would be exceptionally helpful for some fans to finally get it in terms of who’s calling shots concerning the Store and pass progression tiers. Y’know, the one signing the checks.
