This is happening way to consistently to be anything but intentional from some other player within the game, my net is 20d an 3up more than adequate for there not to be issues on my end an everything is fine on any other game and all my equipment is fine.
Basically i’m smacking some noob around an blam! stat screen pops up-game comes back after a few seconds an i’m dead with him getting a free kill, either it’s like that on a one vs one level or it’s with the entire game as a whole when our team has the victory same thing, stat screen-game returns and our team which had a significant lead beforehand is losing out of some sort of digital wizardry.
This looks horribly similar to standbying in previous iterations of the franchise and it’s disgusting to think that after all of this in the past it’s still very present an being abused on a major level, the legit players deserve better we don’t deserve to have our fun stripped an good sportsmanship mocked by people who have nothing better to do than destroy a fun online environment for the sake of getting their jollies off(tis’ the season though right? ho ho ho )
So i’m challenging you,343i, to take care of the issue an set a new benchmark for the franchise by throwing in dedicated servers or developing a patch to fix this exploitable p2p nightmare; you’re a first party microsoft studio there is absolutely no excuse for there to be this type of abuse on an annual fee of 60$ plus the purchase of your game. My advice is probably falling on deaf ears but I thought i’d at least enlighten you to the incredible amount of discomfort many users are having within what should be a fair and consistent digital battlefield.
Such a well redacted post for such a minimal issue. I don’t know who you’ve been playing with/against, nor which region you’re in, but in my own personal experience, I’ve experienced such wizardry maybe once or twice out of hundreds of games (I distinctly recall an oddball game in which my own team was dominating, the other team grabs the ball, screen goes black, then when the game is back they miraculously had the lead and won without 4 seconds of the game being back).
In comparison to Halo 3 (due to ranks), I’d say host booting/Router standby is one of the least prominent problems in this halo.
I’m not trying to sound rude, but your little open plea will have to get in line behind all of the other petitions to fix more important game breaking mechanics (such as permanent sprint, boltshot, etc).
Im with the author on this one, this and similar happen quite often especially on the new crimson maps…you empty a whole clip then melee - nothing! I die with one melee? As I said, its notable on Crimson maps, or am I just imagining it?
Your download and upload speeds being high does not mean you can’t lag, even to the point of it seeming that you are being cheated.
I have had several times in my 7 years of LIVE where my ISP was just having issues, or updating. I would drop all the way to red bar, even with 40 down and 20 up.
Pay real close attention to the circumstances, and test with other games to see if you experience problems while playing them.
Even if you have an extremely low latency connection you will lag some of the time unless you’re constantly pulling host because Halo 4 will often pair you with international players that have high latency to you and they may get host.
Halo 4 has worse host selection than Reach and the game will rarely if ever host change unless the host quits or their connection disconnects so a really bad/unplayable host may have to be endured for the entire game.
I can count on one hand the number of times host has changed in hundreds of games without a player quitting, it practically never happens regardless of how bad the host is.
Most of my friends have quit playing Halo 4 because when you run into people that have bad connections and/or are network tampering they are nigh invulnerable because of the bad host selection system, lack of host latency monitoring, poor netcode and the games refusal to change host unless the host quits or disconnects.
My last friend still playing the game snapped his disc yesterday after we ran into network tampers that were using what reminded me of Halo 2 standbying to result in unplayable latency to the host.
Coudln’t call in ordinance (never arrived) and we were getting killed by invisible projectiles from guns that never fired and grenades from spartans that never threw them. If it wasn’t for the ammo counts of opposing players going down in theatre I’d have no idea how I died.
Meanwhile our Boltshots didn’t register at point blank and grenades wouldn’t appear in the gameworld but the explosion sometimes would maybe 5-10 seconds after we threw them.
I have a router that allows me to see throughput to each IP and the very start of the match and very end were lag free but between those times the connection was unplayable returning latency over 1ms.
It was an all Australian match so distance latency was not the issue because pings to the host before/after the bad period were under 75ms.
i agree i played a game earlier today with people on the other team mysteriously moving out of the way or where i would start running toward the middle of the map on haven and end up face first in a corner, wasn’t just me either as everyone on my team was commenting on it during play
I to have had some very odd experiences in Big Team Battle =S when it came to lag , black screens when dominating then mysteriously the other team wins its like what the -Yoink- just happend.
I’ve been seeing a similar problem in a majority of my games. Though, it usually doesn’t black screen. Usually, the match starts and my team will pulls a fair lead, then out of nowhere my team goes big red bar while their team is tiny green bar. After it does this, my team gets stomped and every killcam shows that the enemies are only hitting us with 2-3 DMR rounds or 2 BR bursts, or even 1 shot from a shotgun at about 50-100 yards. I don’t know if it’s just the horrible connection system or what, but that needs to be fixed.
I have this issue alot. For my team, and for my enemies. The screen goes black, and either the other team is standing still, or I am. I believe it has something to do with the game switching hosts, and players reconnecting at different times.
Isn’t this lag switching? Is that the correct terminology? I’m still behind on the lingo. Still used to calling it standby during the Rainbow Six 3 days.

I remember frequent standby cheaters in the days of Halo 2 - from what I understand people would quickly flick the standby switch on their modems on/off, and this would result in the effects described by the OP. It was often VERY obvious when they were doing it. Tbh, I’ve been playing H4 since release but I haven’t experienced anything like that yet. I’ve seen lag here and there, but not obvious cheating.
