Winning More in Objective Games

I’ve been frustrated lately with matchmaking. I play a lot of Objective and I’ve finally just gotten fed up with losses I couldn’t really do much about.

Whether they are simply novice players, or skilled players whose only reason in the game is to get a bunch of kills, and they don’t care if we win or lose, there is a wide range of crappy match ups.

So first, if you want kills, go play FFA, SWAT or Slayer. I don’t think you’re cool for getting 30 kills at the end if we lose. All I see is a big fat zero for your ball/flag carry time or hill time or whatever.

Now then, probably the more prominent issue is if people are still getting used to the game or learning to play, the novices out there.

It doesn’t take much time and effort to make some small tweaks to your gameplay that will generate HUGE IMPROVEMENTS. Just take a bit of time and educate yourself. You want to win, don’t you? Here’s a few examples, and I’d hope the community can help with a bunch more:

If you like Capture the Flag:
*Learn where each flag is and the shortest distance between them. Learn alternate routes as well.
*Learn the common entrances to your flag that enemies will use.
*Communicate with your team on what you’re doing (Capturing or Defending)

If you like Oddball:
*When your teammate has the ball, stay near him and protect him at all times
*If you’re the only one near the ball, pick it up!!!
*When the enemy has the ball, your #1 goal is taking out the carrier
*If an enemy carrier is constantly moving, help your team FLANK HIM

If you like King of the Hill:
*First one is a big one and an easy one: GO TO THE FREAKING HILL
*Learn where the hills spawn on each map.
*Watch the hill timer and incoming hill waypoint and act accordingly.
*Get IN the hill to contest it so the enemy isn’t scoring while you fight.
*Don’t spam grenades, use them wisely and not with teammates in front of you

And no matter what, play as a team, and play to accomplish the objective.

Anywho, sorry for the long post, I just feel like a little bit of effort and applying some fundamentals will help a lot of the people.

I agree. I do not play slayer and swat, if you want to play those gametypes, go to those playlists. Meanwhile, i will be trying to keep those four guys on the other team from taking the flag. and probably failing because I had no support.

Play with friend who have decent skill and fully understand the basics of each objective gametype. Randoms are fickle as hell and are unreliable.

Sure, you’ll run into competent players (i already have some good memories in CTF) but more often than not, you’ll be matched up with rookie players or players who just suck no matter what they do.

Your best bet is to pair up as a team and work together.

But… I have no friends.

Well, I do, but they suck. So really, i am toast either way.

I stat -Yoink!- in objective, but I dont camp or just play defense. Most objective games that I just slay we usually win by a good amount. I cant stand people that say there is no room for a slayer in objective games because they couldnt be more wrong lol. But I agree, objective is kinda dumb if you go in alone because people never talk…

It’s okay if your primary job is killing as long as you’re supporting the team well and conscious of what’s going on. Also if you drop your Rambo position to help the team in a tricky situation (ie you’re the closest one to a dropped enemy flag), then that’s cool with me too.

But if you just spawn and go straight to the roof on Complex every time during Oddball, just for some fish in a barrel, and you could care less about protecting your carrier or killing theirs, then that’s not cool.

I primarily play SWAT but I maxed out commendations on KOTH for shiggles. There are times when I didn’t hold the hill but at the same time I prevented others from getting it.

In the end it comes down to communication. I’m a random in nearly all my games and it’s a rarity if anyone ever talks. If you really want to win, find other players who talk and work together, otherwise learn to be patient.

Every objective game needs a main slayer…
Though, I think a lot of people lose an objective game not because some people are too scared to stick their neck out for a win.

In oddball sometimes I will fight 4v1 JUST to give the carrier time to get away, and the amazing thing is 90% of the time I can hold off people just long enough.

let your k/d drop, it’s only important in slayer games and there’s a slayer k/d on your profile to brag about… then brag about your w/l ratio in objectives.

sometimes you have to commit suicide for the team.

Bytheby. my k/d is about 0.9, in pure slayer, it’s about 1.07.
my w/l in all games is lower than 1.
