Wingman Breakout

So I was thinking, with the addition of an execution style game mode in Halo 5 and the fact that breakout plays on forged maps, how would the community like a game type similar to wingman in Gears of War? 4 teams of 2 execution style.

Not sure what ‘wingman’ in gears of war is, mind explaining it for those of us who haven’t played the latest GoW?

In Wingman, 4 teams of 2 play on a map in rounds and gain a point for every kill you get and every round you win. So typically if one team killed 3 and won, they scored 4 points. The game would be to 20 to accommodate multiple rounds.

So, essentially ‘multiteam’ and ‘breakout’ combined? Eh, too hectic for my book. Might as well play lone wolves, 1 life, an multiple rounds is already stretching breakout at the moment. You have to remember, the more playlist, the more spreadout the population will be. That’s not a good thing when you get too many playlists.

Not sure if that would work. I mean, I could go for a Team Doubles style Breakout with 2v2.

You heard it here first: Breakout will die early. People will not tolerate a game mode where they have only one life per round. Similar game types have been tried before. They always failed in the past, and that was back when the average player still had some reluctance to quit matches. Now they have no compunction whatsoever about quitting for any reason, whenever it suits them. The ratio of Breakout matches that finish with full teams? I predict one in four. Maybe. Possibly one in five. Mash it up with any other game mode you can think of. The result will be the same.

Why do you only get one point for winning a round?

EDIT: I just realized that you only get one life per round.

This thread turned sour real quick. I could see it working in a playlist that is a mix of more hectic gametypes.

The game type works really well in Gears of War and I thought it might work because multi team, while very fun, does not seem to be as engaging from a community perspective. This would also give community forgers a chance to make some really unique maps.

I think this game mode would work, despite players not necessarily enjoying only having one life, because you gain points for getting any kill even if you lose the round. So if my team loses a round and I happened to play aggressive and get 2 kills, I now have 2 points and am still feeling as though I am in the running.
I think it will play differently from regular Breakout because it won’t simply be about killing their team and making sure yours does not die, but it would also be about trying to ensure the other teams do not score too many kills that could have been yours.

well IF halo 5 is as popular as halo 3 was in its prime then it could easily accomadate the extra playlists
but if 343 fail or the game launches broken then well, that’s a very different story
