Greetings Halo Waypoint goers! Recently, 343 has announced some changes to the structure of weapon powers and weaknesses which has caused a victory cheer to arise from some but also a cry of dismay from others…
What exactly is going here? And how will this affect you the player? Well. First of all, how did it come to this? It all started like almost every other major change begins… Somebody complains. In fact, the complaining started against, believe it or not, The DMR.
Instead of mentioning the clearly broken and over powered “Boltshot” A few gamers decided to boycott the DMR because they were…(wait for it…) Killed by it! (Oh God forbid that people get killed by WEAPONS in a virtual GAME based on killing!)
Instead of focusing their brains on balancing secondary weapons that acquire an instant kill… Many Waypoint form goers sat at their computers and typed away using nothing but their most profane mindset as logic for their cause! AND GUESS WHAT!?? IT WORKED! Instead of changing their controller settings or gaining skills they decided that the DMR had to be silenced! It is a wonder that 343 actually listened to angry internet trolls.
However, What does that mean for you DMR users? Well… The Battle Rifle (which can already kill in 4 shots by the way!) Now kills in one less shot than you! Not to mention that the Lightrifle now has exactly the same range as you! OH! And it also kills in one less shot! BUT WAIT! The last shot, as you probably know, Kills instantly if the forth shot is a headshot! And it is also just as fast as the DMR when scoped in!
What is the DMR good for anymore? Close range? No. Medium range? Battle rife and carbine rein here! Long range? As 343 stated and I quote: At equal skill levels the Lightrifle will PUNISH the DMR scoped. What is the DMR good for? Has it really lost its versatility? Tell me in the comments below!
Oh. Don’t forget to answer the poll HONESTLY. Noel177 out.
The four shot BR will reduce that chances of people running away via sprint or Thruster pack, but can also cause a lot of issues with CQC gameplay.
That’s just one example but because the structure of Halo 4 Multiplayer itself is an imbalance, it’s not likely that you’d be able to force it to be balanced. You’re essentially just moving pieces around.
Also, that poll is terrible and gives a false sense of weapons being OP just because someone can use it.
At this point, we are not sure, but if the DMR becomes “weaker” than the BR (which should NOT happen), i’ll be pretty annoyed. The only thing i want changed from the DMR is the range. I’m a DMR user myself, and i noticed that the shooting range of the DMR is like using the Sniper. It should be decreased by a little. Not to jump over, but the Boltshot is by far the only weapon I want to see change. Its way too powerful, especially when players use to weapon to charge it up, then fire the weapon like a Mauler. I barely see it being used like the Magnum.
All it will do is create a new set of imbalances. Mark my words right here, people will be on these forums NON-STOP complaining about the 4-shot BR.
Why 343 feel the need to ‘balance’ every weapon is beyond me, since only the DMR needs tweaking. The DMRs kill time is too fast, increase the cool-down between shots by 15% and this problem is solved.

The DMR at 1.47 doesn’t kill too fast though and the Light Rifle with its scoped function is actually capable of killing faster at 1.40. The other weapons kill too slowly and 343i is doing the right thing with these updates.
The weapon tuning is a huge step in making this game better and in fulfilling its potential. Matches are going to become faster, its going to force better positioning and smarter plays from players, the faster kill times will punish mindless sprinters and will allow the sprinting mechanics of being slowed down when shot truly work. But biggest thing is that the weapons will be much better balanced and the loadout weapons as a whole will be viable and play styles will truly be able to emerge which was the point of the loadout system.
The DMR is a far bigger problem than the Boltshot ever was. I hate the boltshot, but it’s a problem that you don’t run into too much. Sorry that your OP gun is going to become a niche weapon just like the rest of the precisions…
I see no problem with making the DMR the baseline for all other ranged weapons.
I also never considered the Boltshot or DMR overpowered to begin with. I simply learned how to best avoid dying by them. Wasn’t difficult.
That being said I’m looking forward to the June 3 update and think it will keep a lot of people like me happy while also appeasing those who cite imbalance.
Honestly stop messing with the game once it is released. Fix obvious bugs and things that are profoundly exploited, but seriously don’t make us re learn weapons every few months.
The only problem with the DMR is the aim assist and magnetism
DMR has one of quickest kill times and with the huge aim assist and magnetism players hardly miss any shot.
That’s why people complain, most time the DMR player wins against players with a BR or light rifle in medium range battles.
Wow, thank you for your post, i wanted to post something but didnt even have the appetite to. The DMR just belongs to the trash now, whats the point of having it in the game anyway.
You forgot to add one more thing, 343 said that the DMR wont be nurfed, BUT, instead they buffed all the other weapons, isnt this like… practically the SAME?

Actually, I’d say you don’t understand Halo, as Halo 4’s killtimes are actually the second slowest after Reach, and these tweaks will bring us closer to those of “classic Halo”.

Same ends. Different means.
Wait, you aren’t actually complaining about this are you?

Here is how it will work.
Long Range: LR>DMR>BR/Carbine>AR
Medium-Long Range: LR/DMR>BR/Carbine>AR
Mid Range: BR/Carbine>DMR>LR>AR
Close Range: AR>BR/Carbine>DMR>LR
Notice how the DMR is never really the best BUT never worst. It is a UTILITY weapon. As for the OP, the BR can’t kill in 4 shots as of right now. When is a gun overpowered? When there is no reason to choose any other starting weapon when playing people of equal skill level.
BTW OP I got so many good sprees and easy perfections with the DMR (most of my perfections are with only the DMR actually), but that doesn’t mean I like it. When the weapon does most of the work for you it gets boring really fast. And even though I really tried using the other weapons specially the LR for long maps and the BR for short, everyone just kept spamming the DMR with camo so I just gave up and quit.
So I’m really waiting for this update to be able to play again and actually find some fun.
I have a feeling that the Battle Rifle might become slightly over-powered after the update. However, I doubt as many people will complain about it, as I think deep down, they would prefer the BR to be the dominating weapon.
