I believe there is far too much digital content that is kept and stored far from our own consoles associated only with our gamertags that will not be retrievable when the online servers are shut down. Compared to games of the past where you could count on always having your content at the ready this is not good. It scares and frustrates me a lot and we fans are powerless to stop it.
Don’t get me wrong there are perceived benefits but I believe the risks far outweigh them. The main “advantage” is that the developer can modify and add to existing content. Now to me that is not an advantage at all but a plore to being able to develop an either imperfect game that needs fixed or just add things that they didn’t have time to put into the game during devealopment. And I’m assuming all of it would be free, imagine if they would charge us for this =|
So basically once forge is added (THAT SHOULD BE WITH HALO 5 FROM THE VERY START LIKE ALL OTHER HALO TITLES AFTER 3) we may have around 10 years before all our maps, films and screenshots (assuming halo 5 didn’t remove the theatre feature entirely as it did with split screen and a few others) WILL BE GONE FOREVER when the servers are shut down. What do all of you think of this?

Their not gonna shut down servers right after the next Halo game releases. Also Forge comes out 2 months later because 343 has learned from their mistakes and their not gonna release broken trash like MCC. Also the Xbox One and PS4( as well as Windows) can digitally retrieve basically everything you’ve had for 10 years and so on. Seriously I got all my gamerscore, achievements and various other rewards I’ve earned just by putting in my email. Also once again their not gonna shut the servers down that would be to put it simple freaking idiotic . Honestly are you really gonna still be playing Halo 5 when Halo 6 releases 10 years from now? Also people can save basically anything on flash drives and USB. Hell with the Windows and Xbox compatibility you can easily transfer basically all your content in an instant. Also once again companies don’t SHUT DOWN SERVERS ANYMORE. Seriously Gears of War the original is 10 years old now and it still has its online abilities. So honestly my thoughts on this are: It’s fairly “out there” to worry about something that quite literally will never happen

I’m sorry but with mobile gaming on the rise and P.C games slowly becoming online only. It’s about time for consoles to join the trend. I’m sorry you cant afford to pay 10.00- 50.00 for Xbox live, but yeah thats basically it
Hopefully this isn’t the case in the long run meaning they patch in lan and you could play with friends via system link. Doubtful but you can only hope.
10+ years from now, I don’t think I’ll mind. You make it sound like the Xbox One servers would be shut down sometime soon, but the console just came out 2 years ago.
Why is this even brought up? It’s not like X1 is going to be done next year. Hell, look at the 360! Chill peeps!
Edit: I did a lot in H3, a lot of things I loved but I haven’t touched it in years. It’s lease of my worries

Huh? That’s a bad trend and P.C. games being online only is a myth unless its just multiplayer then that’s obvious but even people find ways on PC to play it offline or their own server to play with others.
man when you die in real life everything you ever did will no longer be able to be done because you are dead! are you ok with this??? i mean you put your whole life into doing those things and now you cant do it because of biology! are you gonna stand for this!!! what a rip!!!

I don’t really agree with OP, but he does have a point. Microsoft will most likely “shut down” the Xbox One servers 10 years from now like they are doing with the Xbox 360. This means that we will no longer be able to retrieve things stored online or play online.
I also don’t know why you are reading it as Halo 6 releasing in 10 years. It’s going to most likely release in 2017 (most mainline Halo games release in 2-3 years of each other).
And, to conclude, your gamertag is transferred between servers. Based off of your post I’d say you don’t know too much about this, but its like how they shut down the original Xbox servers. Your gamertag still works, and has all of it’s info, but the games no longer have dedicated servers to connect to for Xbox Live.

Well the majority of big P.C games like Ark or MOBAS are online only. Also its way easier to account for bugs, glitches, and various other things with the tech we have now. It makes no sense for games these days to not go online- only

I can name dozens of “big” PC games that allow for offline play.
Why? Because internet outages exist, not everyone has internet/goo connects, things like server problems, and single player.

He said 10 years from now. If your still your playing Xbox One please get the next Xbox. It makes no sense that were talking about a topic that we dont influence nor will ever have control over. Seriously even they dont have tech now to fully transfer all your progress. I’m fairly sure in 2025 their gonna have the tech to keep you’ve worked for and once again they aren’t gonna shut down the servers 10 years from now!

Name one.(please don’t name some half baked indie that only got popular because Markiplier or Pewdiepie played it).

Exactly my point only indies or purely single player games have an offline only option. Hell even mobile games are getting into it

So Halo 5 is always online now too? Wow. So you’re saying if I don’t have an Internet connection AT ALL TIMES I can’t play? That is absolutely rediculous. Why? I garuntee some fan base will be lost because of this alone.

That’s the wrong way of thinking had we thought like that all these diseases that killed many of our ancestors would kill us too had we not bothered to find cures or treatments or any form of extending life just living as is and letting it be. You better get over the fact someone posted something that could benefit this game than just derailing it because reasons. So seriously BRO don’t type something that isn’t putting up points to extend replayability of this game.

They can transfer things like gamertags, which is why they do.
But all evidence points to them shutting the XO servers down about 10 years from now. The original Xbox’s servers were shutdown, the Xbox 360’s are going to be shut down, and the XO’s will be too.

That is true, although if I was a precursor I could just transcend death and maybe, take up a new body in living time or something. Lol.
Hey. All I’m saying is I like to hold onto things I make and I won’t be able to do that if what I make can’t be saved locally and where it is saved ceases to exist. There is such a simple and easy way around this too that it’s just frustrating to me. It could just be saved locally but it won’t be for no other reason than they want you to buy the next thing no matter what. I probably will buy halo 6 and stuff but I will still go back to 5 like I go back to 3 some times.
