Sorry, guys, I havn’t been in the loop with a lot of the little pieces of news. I’ve heard that Halo 5 will not support LAN? Is this true?! So, when we have our get-together LAN parties, all ten to sixteen of us, we’ll be playing each other over the internet up to a satellite back and forth through Live only? I know… I know… if this is true, I’ll be getting ‘dedicated server’ this and ‘dedicated server’ that… but, really- is this true?

Unfortunately, as of now, its true… hopefully it’ll come in an update in the future.
Just like MCC, there will be no true LAN play. It should play like a LAN if you have everyone on the same local network, but if Live is down or something, then all the time and money spent getting everyone together and preparing for the party will have been wasted.
This is true, but honestly what’s the difference? Once you get playing everything will be the same as it would be with LAN.

Um no LAN works differently which Xbox one doesn’t support or just some games haven’t tried to use LAN. LAN is basically offline play with tons of other people. This is where system link thrives without the need of Xbox live.

The only difference is you’ll have to invite your friends via XBL as opposed to setting up a local game. It’ll still play the same though.

Unless Live goes down or is having problems with friends lists. If you have everyone under the same roof, then there is no good reason you shouldn’t all be able to play together without a dependency on some outside network.

Not everyone buys Xbox live but if that’s your way of thinking no point in going to anyone’s house if they have Xbox live and most lan parties are meant to be played locally in custom games and with the removal of split screen more TVs and Xbox need to be bought.

LAN takes into account that your friends are on a local network. That mean you practically get 0 ping and zero lag with the exception of Gears of War 1 and 2 using a -Yoink- version of their own netcode for lan hookups.
Hooking up sixteen xbox one systems to one internet network would force the players to play over the internet, contact a server, and then have that information transferred back to their box and their friend’s boxes.
Not to mention having that many devices running through one network is probably going to suck when most households in the US can barely achieve 7-15 Mbps in upload speed.
And that doesn’t even take into account multiple people in an area with the same Comcast provider for cable. :I
Everyone is better off staying at home, or playing the MCC.
Given the fuss we’ve been kicking up over the uncertainty and the silence from 343 on the topic, it’s looking like a no. Keep kicking up a fuss though, just in case I’m wrong.

I think games just don’t want to use it… Gears UE has LAN, so the xbox one does support it.

Yea… I just remembered so that’s why I said or, but really 343i knows they can do so many things with Microsoft’s assistance yet it wont. I just find it odd when new games or other franchises do things that Halo just won’t do.

Thank you for your response. I was mistaken to have thought everyone would understand the intent of my question, which was regarding lag or ping issues (hence the ‘internet’ and ‘satellite’ aspects of my question) … with someone at a table a few feet away from you! Why can’t Halo 5 have both? We would often end up getting on Live after the party dies down and some have gone home early in the morning- often, we would get on Live if there were just eight or less of us, to at least get on the same team and play BTB or Slayer or something. Just wish/ hope the option for LAN play will exist.
And, when we see the pro’s play in tourneys, are they all competing through Live?! Will they all be dealing with possible/ potential lag and/ or ping issues like the rest of us- or, do they get something… special…?
