Do you think we will ever see a return of the San 'Shyuum(Prophets) in the Halo universe? The last we heard of them was shortly after the end of the Human-Covenant War where they gave the Jiralhanae access to all the tech they had to protect them as their population numbers were now dangerously low. Some time after that they took a majority of the remaining Huragok and fled.
Where did they go? What are they doing now? If they did return in force could they survive in the Post-War galaxy where almost every faction wants them dead possibly including Jul’s remnant?
Probably. If they make a deal with Jul, and possibly form an alliance, to which Jul would most likely use them for advantageous means. In other words, play them.
> Probably. If they make a deal with Jul, and possibly form an alliance, to which Jul would most likely use them for advantageous means. In other words, play them.
Why would Jul’s remnant want to to work with them?
> Why would Jul’s remnant want to to work with them?
Other way around, they might want to make a peace deal with Jul (as you pointed out, for the sake of their survival). Why? Same reason why he is working with Halsey i guess. No real explanation, just a thought.
I wouldn’t mind seeing the San’Shyuum return but there will be alot of hate…
San’Shyuum are naturally intellectual and understand Forerunner technology… yet they lack physical prowess for most combat situations, as well as the sufficient numbers, now more then ever… and so to counter their biological disadvatges they have made advantageous alliances… so perhaps another one needs to be made, for their survival as a species?
So my thoughts are… if they return then they will attempt another alliance? But with who… Lydus and the Jiralhanae… Jul’Mdama and the Storm Covenant… Arbiter and the Separatist Elites… Hood and the UNSC… Insurrectionists? Maybe a more sinister re-appearance… with the Precursors/Flood?
The species in which they choose to ally with, all depends on the history they have with that race…
- Sangheili** - Very Unlikely… due to a genocidal ploy, on the Elites during 2552, it ultimately lost the San’Shyuum there Empire and species.(Hatred)
[/li]- Jiralhanae** - Possibility… as the Brutes lack intelligence, but have brute physical strength, the San’Shyuum can use them, by assisting with technological needs and upgrades, in exchange for protection.(Mutual Advantages)
[/li]- Kig-Yar** - Possibility… as the Jackals are typically pirates or mercenaries they ally themselves, with anyone who offers them mutual advantages.(Mutual Advantages)
[/li]- Unggoy** - Unknown… I am not sure about the Grunts, whether they would jump up and help the San’Shyuum… firstly due to the Grunts timid nature they may fear the wrath of the Sangheili race… and secondly the Grunts are generally good fodder fighters but, the San’Shyuum would see them as unreliable, cowardly and weak… and so bad bodyguards.(Fearful)
[/li]- Mgalekgolo** - Unknown… I am certain the San’Shyuum would consider Hunters as their bodyguards, or protective alliance… unknown how the Hunters would respond?(Unknown)
[/li]- Huragok** - Forced… as the San’Shyuum kidnapped a lot of Engineers, they would already be integrated into the new empire. The Engineers have mutual advantages to offer the San’Shyuum, these include technological upgrades and repairs… as well as beneficial shielding.(Passive)
[/li]- Yanme’e** - Debatable… as the Drones operate in a hive or collective nature, they could assist the San’Shyuum, if the Yanme’e Queen sees a beneficial relationship?(Mutual Respect)
[/li]- Humans** - Very Unlikely… as the Humans just came out of a thirty-five year long war with the Covenant, due to San’Shyuum’s manipulation, they would be skeptical at best… to join them.(Hatred)
[/li]- Forerunner/Promethean** - Possibility… as the Forerunners have been idealized by the San’Shyuum, they may want to gain the ‘Gods’ trust and acceptance… even forgiveness. I highly doubt the Ur-Didact would see them as a viable ally due to frailty and the alliance with the Ancient Humans… but perhaps the Iso-Didact could see some mutual arrangement, or advantage.(Skeptical)
[/li]- Precursor/Flood** - Possibility… as the Precursor were driven out of the Milky Way and to near extinction, they could see a reflection of themselves in the San’Shyuum. The two species could have a begrudging alliance, that perhaps promises the San’Shyuum rejuvenation of their species, but at the cost of technology for the Flood.(Relatable Circumstances)[/list]
I think all San 'Shyuum species is potentially near its demise and total extinction. Since there are no major players left to further influence the Brutes, like the Prophets before, the San 'Shyum simply have no colorful tomorrow to look upto for their treachery towards the Elites.
Since they haven’t been mentioned in major novels and comics , we can fairly assume that their species may been totally slaughtered or snuffed out either by the Elites or pissed off Brutes. So I don’t think their eventual return will be imminent. Although if The Ur-Didact returns again in the future Halo media, the Prophets can crawl out from their stinkholes and serve at the feet of a Living God.
I think it should be noted thst the Jiralhanae will probably be just as angry at the San 'Shyuum as the Sangheili are. Just look at the mess they left them in. The Jiralhanae aren’t idiots.
The Didact will unlikely be willing to take them in either. After their little performance on Janjur Qom I doubt that he’ll trust them and Jul will likely enforce and encourage that mentality towards them if he advises the Didact in any capacity.
In all honesty Humanity’s their best shot for an alliance. The San 'Shyuum don’t have a lot to offer other than potentially furthering the UNSC’s understanding of Forerunner tech and even that might not be all that useful given that they’ve quite easily improved upon existing Covenant technology already.
Whilst the UNSC can provide new medical techniques the San 'Shyuum haven’t seen before, food, shelter etc. Basically just the necessities to survive.
Forgiving and helping the San 'Shyuum will probably be one of Humanity’s greatest tests in proving themselves to be worthy of claiming the Mantle.
While we don’t know with any accuracy what happened to the to the ones that didn’t want to leave their home world when the prophets took high charity and ripped it out of the planet, I am pretty sure the other ones are gone. Most of them lived on High Charity or on a ship that was led by Elites. High charity became a flood haven and I am sure the Elites would have killed them off.
There’s very few of them, and they all went into hiding. We may accidently come across them, but outside of that, I doubt we’ll meet them again. They have no forces. They have no numbers. They can’t convince anyone to work with them (or rather, anybody that can make an actual threat together; A force of Kig-Yar only goes so far).
> The ones who didn’t leave their homeworld may have died off because their Sun went supernova or something.
I was thinking kind of similar, in that my thoughts went to the San 'Shyuum that didn’t leave their homeworld.
What if they had survived and become a space-faring civilization (albeit limited)?
There are many legitimate possibilities that could surround this San 'Shyuum sect. I certainly doubt they would be O.P. like the Covenant Prophets, simply because my bet is that they continue to avoid ANY manipulation of Forerunner artifects/tech.
However, intelligent species can gain tech 4, tech 3 status within the Halo Universe time span without Forerunner technology, so I don’t see why the Covenant San 'Shyuum would not have retreated to make amends with their long-lost brothers. . .
The Covenant San 'Shyuum now lack numbers, but have the technology, the knowledge, and likely, a -Yoink–load of Huragok. If the other San 'Shyuum population had survived, and even expanded to a few worlds, then a San 'Shyuum retreat & alliance with their own kin makes sense. It would certainly be a decade plus where they would remain in hiding away from other Covenant species and humans, but they could quickly build up a formidable fleet between the original San 'Shyuum population numbers and other resources, coupled with the Covenant San 'Shyuum Huragok & technical knowledge.
I think that there return is assured because if you read the description for the Prophets Bane it says, “The Arbiter awaits the San’Shyuum’s inevitable return with blade in hand.”

Didn’t Jul die in H5?
EDIT: That moment when you realize a thread’s 2 years old.
Well the description of ‘Prophets Bane’ seems like some sort of tease or hint at their return. I’d be surprised if we didn’t see them come back eventually
