Will trueskill 2 address the exploiters?

In probably about 97% of the games I play, either on my own team or the opposing team, there seems to be at least one exploiter. Granted, a small percentage of these people could be just very skilled people. But after a recent message exchange between one of these exploiters, it’s been made clear that the new halo fad is high level onyx and champions players are making new accounts in order to get matched against players two or three tiers below their own actual skill level. As trueskill takes many matches to actually learn where a player stands in terms of their actual skill, one could just play on a new account until they start getting appropriately matched, throw the account away, and start fresh with another new account. The exploiter that I spoke with, he was on his 12th new account! I know I can’t be the only one who notices this, and you can easily see how this can be frustrating to teams at their legit skill level. A player will have more than 25 kills and less than 5 deaths. Just this evening, I played a match, my full team was Platinum all accounts higher than level 100. The opposing team, all champion accounts below level 15. The final score was obviously outrageous, something like 9-50.
Now if trueskill 2 can actually learn a players skill much quicker than trueskill 1, and actually match that player appropriately, I feel like it would discourage these exploiters because they would only be able to get just a handful of easy games. Instead of hundreds of easy games, they’d gets maybe dozens.
I love playing Halo. I work 10 hr days 6 days a week, and it’s nice to get off and play a few quick matches after a long day of helping build Microsoft’s server farm. But this persistent exploiting problem just makes me want to find another fps to play. I’ve never played cod or battlefield, as I’m sure they have similar problems in their games. Now Halo 3 had good matchmaking, I’d rather see people sitting idle deranking or boosting than getting matched against a full team of champions.

I played more than 10 matches today (solo), every match was against two teams or full teams with smurf accounts, also because the lag that they had all the games were unplayable >:/

the lag has been a problem i have been experiencing too, i just assume its the servers. i havent really been bothered too much with people making and playing on smurf accounts because i could do the same thing. i just try to get ranked as high as possible each season.

I haven’t experienced much lag at all besides a very few amount of games. Honestly the lag has only recently started to happen probably because 343 was changing things around here and there with the servers for trueskill 2 so…yeah.

You do realize Halo 3 and Halo 5’s matchmaking system is exactly the same…right? No differences what so ever. 343 even made an exact comparison to what a Bronze all the way to Diamond level player’s equivalent would be in Halo 3.

Trueskill2 is addressing smurfs, in a way. There are reports of apparent smurf accounts getting rated in high Onyx/Champion ratings after their qualifying matches. That suggests that Trueskill2 is putting them in their correct skill bracket more quickly than Trueskill1 did. Of course, people can always create new smurf accounts, but the amount of time a smurf account is useful seems to have decreased, which would inconvenience smurfers. They have to make new smurf accounts more often if they want to keep playing outside of their true skill level.

Now, while Trueskill2 seems to be identifying skill faster (hence why you saw Champs with only SR 15), it doesn’t mean that you’ll never match them. Even if Trueskill2 ranks them right, the matchmaker still may have to let them match weaker players to let them play. So there are 2 factors going on here: the skill determiner, which measures how good they are compared to everyone else, and the matchmaker, which searches for the best possible game. For high skill players, the matchmaker often has to make concessions to let them play, like letting Champs play against Diamonds or even Platinums sometimes. And since you say you were in a full party, that means the matchmaker also was limited in finding you a good match because it considers a full party of Platinums to be as good as 4 solo-queueing Diamonds. Long story short, Trueskill2 is correctly ranking smurf accounts faster than before, but playlist populations are still low enough that sometimes uneven matches will occur.

This is very true everyone just needs to take a glance at the current leaderboards and see how many new accounts are flooding the champion-onyx rankings.

This actually happened with a smurf my friend game me recently, CanineWinter187. This is doing something, although I’d actually call this more of an alt now due to its rank being so high.

Played a bit yesterday, trueskill is definitely placing smurfs where they are supposed to be at as far as I could tell. Lag was pretty bad though. Like, straight people running into walls and Goku teleporting around.
