I’m pretty sure they said the XBox One records all gameplay, which will be nice, but I’m a big fan of taking screenshots & clips & playing around in the theatre. In Reach & 3 I loved taking screenshots from campaign (with enemies) but in 4, it is impossible to take a screenshot of a Promethean or any of the Covenant. I would love to make a wallpaper of my Spartan assassinating a Knight with its own arm-sword-thing.
Will they bring theatre mode back?
Yes, the Xbox One does have video recording abilities, BUT, that does not negate the need for Theater mode. Saved Films are not actual videos, they’re more or less scrips, that are “recorded”/coded when a player plays a match. Theater mode decodes the script files into an actual match using the scripts and the game engine. That’s one of the main reasons why you’re able to move the camera around, and get screenshots that you’d otherwise be unable to with out.
The Xbox One’s video recording system records video as you see it on your screen. It’s no different from using something like Fraps, to record gameplay of a PC game.
As evidenced by the complaints levelled against Halo 4, there’s a strong demand for Campaign Theatre.
However, it remains to be seen if the folks at 343 fathom its importance and will include it in the next game. For all we know, they might be content with the built-in Game DVR feature.
Time will tell.
Upload Studio should amplify Theatre, not replace it. Together, they will be a dream come true- with Skydrive, it will make Machinimating much easier. If 343i intends to remove Theatre now, shame on them. That would kill Halo Machinimas, and with it a very fun useful tool that allows for pretty/awesome screenshots, in depth analysis of events (such as a weird death that you didn’t understand in third person) and the better shots in all montages and clips are not first person at all. They better not remove it.
There’s no way the Xbox One’s DVR can replace Theatre. As weird stealth said, the DVR just captures whatever your playing as your playing it without the ability to manipulate the camera as you can do in Theatre.
Also, by all means correct me, I thought the XO could only record 5 mins at maximum anyway.
Should Theatre come back (Or when Theatre comes back), there seriously needs to be a rewind function similar to the fast forward, as opposed to having to inaccurately skip back through chunks. Seriously, am I missing it or is the function simply not there?

Hopefully they realize it’s importance by now.
