In all honesty, this damn site and these damn forums suck. When I compare it to Bungie’s site, Waypoint is SUPER slow and has more flash data crap instead of straight HTML coding. You need silverlight and this and that crap. If 343 wants to excel, get off the molasses train and construct a better one. They have time to update Reach and Halo 4, but no time for their own site huh? I continue seeing “The service is not available.” In fact, I have to open 10 different tabs at once and HOPE that one of them loads. This is beyond unacceptable.
Will this website ever work correctly? Does 343 not have competent web developers? Why are none of this sites dysfunctions being repaired? I mean its just constant “this webpage is not available” or “this service is unavailable” or just incredibly slow load times.
It only looks like they are trying to add new stuff to the site all the time, however they just seem to be overlooking the sites problems completely.
and just as I was posting this, it stopped loading and I was forced to write it all again. luckily I foresaw that and copied all this text before hand except for this last message.

> The web team is very, very, painfully aware of the performance on the forums of late and it’s essentially all I’ve been working on for the last week (jokes about “well it sure doesn’t seem like it” are fine). I worked on it til around midnight last night and am working on it again right now, I say that just so you are all aware that we take this extremely seriously. Waypoint wouldn’t be as awesome as it is without the community.

In 2 years or more, maybe less, these forums and site will be just as quick as Bungie’s, I assume. I heard something about a site overhaul when Halo 4 is released. So be patient!

If you’re going to compare this site with Bungie’s, then you should also take in account that Bungie’s site has been around for over 10 years, they’ve had people working on it, improving it, getting it to what it is now, where as Waypoint, and Waypoint’s forums hasn’t been around that long, and is still very new, hell, I think this is the first time they’ve had this many people view this site.
Yes, Waypoint’s site isn’t running as quickly as Bungie’s is at this current point in time, but remember, when Bungie’s site was as old as Waypoint’s site, in fact, it most likely ran slower than Waypoint’s site right now, because back then the internet wasn’t as fast as it is now.

Exactly! Bungie’s site and forums weren’t all that great when they first started. Hell, that’s the way anything works!

> So because 343 offers an obviously sub par web site, that would be sub par if the year was 2001, you tell them to go somewhere else? Waypoint.
I’m rather sure in 2001 uploading HD quality videos on a website would’ve been unthinkable, so would’ve all these fancy multilayered and transparent backgrounds.
On a more serious note, I too am rather disappointed with the function of the site. Of course, I appreciate the web team’s efforts to fix the problems, but to a regular user it really doesn’t look like every problem when your access to the forums gets cut every other hour. But to be fair, Bungie has had ten years to construct a working structure for their site and fix everything, that’s the reason Bungie.net is so fast and robust. This site on the other hand, is still pretty much a huge construction site. But yes, I too really hope they would get the forums fixed at least to a state where they work consistently.
> If it’s any consolation, I know they’re aware of the issues and are working on them.
This would be a consolation to me if I hadn’t had to click on every Waypoint link somebody posts twice to get it to work. I’ve never had that problem with another website. If somebody posts a game link, the first click only shows me the game history, the second actually brings me to the game. A forum link usually gives me a “access denied” page first, then brings me to the right page the second time I click.
This has been the case for MONTHS.
Furthermore, I will add that I strongly dislike the way information is displayed in game data. For example, I don’t believe it clearly says who quits in a game of Reach (I could bee wrong, but I can’t tell).
I enjoy talking about Halo, but not fighting with a website to do it.
