I just wondered something. Will Infinite treat Halo 5 as if it doesn’t exist? Will things from it be retconned? Will it be the new Halo 5?
I wouldn’t have thought so.
I get the impression that Halo Infinite is a bit of a reset… in that they want a game/story where a new generation of players can enter the fray without being overwhelmed by the epic backstory to date.
But it wont take long before they can start weaving those old threads back in… Cortana etc.
if halo infinite won’t have prometheans to fight, I swear, i really swear to god, i’m not going to play halo anymore.
The aim is for Infinite to be a 10 year game / service.
We will fight EVERYONE.
343 has gone on the record and said that Infinite will be a continuation of Halo 5’s story. So no rettconning, it will be a genuine sequel.

I won’t miss them at all, but like Darwi said: it’s a ten years plan in the making. We will fight everyone! Including Flood, Skirmishers and Buggers down the line.
I hope in a HUGE rework when it comes to Prometheans specifically though, in both visuals and mechanics. Humanoid robots are boring to fight against in any game, I’ll die standing on that leg! They need something more to stand out imho.

What the Prometheans need are more constructs and vehicles, like a Warthog equivalent, or a tank, or maybe a giant boss construct. You can do a lot with robotic enemies, and with the way the Prometheans work the possibilities are practically endless.
More or less? I just wish they have their own thing going for them. No equivalencies. Just unique niches . The promethean were made with a very specific purpose… they aren’t social, they don’t have hierarchies. Much like sentinels, except they are digitalized beings. They can teletransport. Why do they need vehicles. They can wield weapons more powerful than any unsc or covie held weapon. They don’t need the fire power of a larger vehicle, they don’t need the transportation capabilities of vehicles. They are the vehicle. And any variation in them doesn’t depict rank but rather specialization for dealing with specific threats

Absolutely! That’s why I said humanoid specifically.
I’m not saying you can’t do a lot with them, but a robot with a skull as a face, an helmet and even animated like a normal human being feels cheap and not alien enough to me. I hate the idea of writing something positive about Destiny, however the Vex are a better version of the Prometheans concept imho - and even them are among the least interesting enemy factions.
343i really missed the mark here in my books! More Sentinels and vehicles please and less reskined soldiers. Thank you!

I’m with you bro. 343i cant just retcon, oh I dont know, LITERALLY THE LAST 2 GAMES IN THE FLIPPING SERIES

Oh god please no.
I don’t know that Halo 5 in total needs to retconned, though I am not opposed to it. I feel that some creative story-telling can fix any misdirection the Halo 5 campaign gave us.
Infinite’s ultimate goal is ostensibly to retcon the bad residual vibes that Halo 5 put off for the series in both the fan community and the wider games industry, while not literally retconning Halo 5. That’s a tricky goal- and the more they attempt to lean on established plot threads and developments that are contingent on Halo 5, the trickier it gets.
As others have alluded to above, Infinite is slated to be an entirely different beast compared to the games that have made up the series to date; it will (presumably) provide us with a full-fat campaign experience at launch, but that initial campaign and MP suite is purpose-built for continuous expansion over the life of the “platform,” that is Halo Infinite.
My strong suspicion is that the initial Halo Infinite campaign will heavily lean away from Halo 5 without actively contradicting it. I think it will minimize elements that carry over from Guardians like Osiris and even Blue Team to keep the focus of the story confined and concise around Chief and(probably) Cortana (the one we know and love or a new version of her). That does the job, hopefully, of pallette-cleansing players and getting us into a spot that’s less massively polarizing. From there, I expect they’ll play it by ear a bit with regards to what content they want to add where, and it is very possible that we’ll see more elements from 343i’s prior Reclaimer games pop in, if fans are receptive.

They won’t, like I said before 343 has stated that Infinite is a continuation of Halo 5’s storyline. No retconning is going to take place.

That’s a tough one. With the entire main story taking place on a Halo, I can see why Prometheans may not appear. The Halos were created by the Builders and are maintained/protected by Sentinels. Requiem was the Didact (a Promethean Warrior) construct and was therefore protected by his Promethean armigers. When Cortana accessed the Domain/Genesis she had access to the composed souls and could carry over the Didact’s army.
If Cortana’s plot doesn’t reach the main story of Infinite, I could see why the Promethans could be left out. But once Chief takes control of the ring and gets Cortana’s attention, she’d bring her full force army to the party in future DLC installments.
It’s a genuine concern I have for the game. I’m worried they’ll pull an Ep IX.
As much as I hated Halo 5’s Campaign, they cannot just throw it away. Also, as others have said, Halo 5’s story will be continued in Halo Infinite

Which would still be better than I, II, III, or VIII.
But continuing the analogy… they do probably need to start of with an episode VII.
Halo Infinite needs to bring in a new generation of players… so it would help if the story is introductory (Chief wakes up not knowing what’s happened - so they can mansplain things), self-contained (take on and beat the Banished faction), and not too bogged down in previous lore (hence using the name “Infinite” instead of “Halo 6”).
By all means tug on some of the old threads (particularly Cortana) and set them up for future instalments.
They have put too much effort into setting up the Haloverse to just dump it.
But yes, Star Wars has made everyone a bit jumpy.

Or… hear me out.
We fight the Warden Eternal for 10 years straight.
Thoughts?
