Wouldn’t mind seeing mine with some better filter options. Played a lot of vs Bot matches and I don’t want those garbage stats to make me look better then I really am doing lol.
Also would like as much info as possible, including how many matches I’ve played total and how many matches I left early.
I remember Bungie even did things like an over view on maps to showcase where things happened during matches. I shot a person with a rocket on Coagulation from clear across the map once. Was like “Wut” when it said my random shot hit someone lol.
The point is k/d provides zero context beyond the ratio of kills to deaths. That’s all it can provide. It’s a poor metric to judge performance. Even though it does have some value.
In any case, stats to look at in-game would be nice… If only to create the sense of quality. Instead of “Exactly how many corners can we cut while ensuring the attention spans are short enough to forget before the next product rolls off the assembly line?”
Yeah, as stats go it would be one of the most useful values to see.
Stats can manipulated very easily in this game. In slayer kd is the ONLY thing that matters even more than KPM. In objective it depends on if the kills are near the objective or not as far as KPM, but in objective modes I would rather someone hold the objective….EDIT-having fun is more important than the above so who really cares if one is enjoying themselves.
Again, not really. A player could post a great k/d in slayer while sitting in a corner alone. 3 kills and 1 death in 20 minutes of play. Odds are a player posting such a stat line isn’t engaging the other team much, isn’t camping near anything important and their teammates are in a 3v4 elsewhere on the map. These are all good ways to lose.
KPM is much more valuable because posting a high value there says the player is engaging the other team and coming out on top. They must be doing something right.
The implications of sending opponents to the respawn queue and spending less time in it per game are huge too. It tends to translate to more numbers advantages, opportunities to secure power weapons/power ups (or… objectives), establish superior map setups with the team, and the list goes on.
Plus, if you average a superior kpm and dpm then you’ll average a superior k/d in any given match.
The problem with this line of thinking is players are fighting over objectives in objective game modes. A player is not going to secure those objectives and score points unless they win this fight. Hence why it’s been said objective could thought of as slayer in disguise.
KPM and DPM are very valuable here because the best way to score or deny points, whether it be by holding an oddball, sitting in a zone or capping a flag, is to keep send the opposing team into and keep yourself out of the respawn queue.
Not exactly… 20kills and 21 deaths equals negative 1… in slayer this is bad mmmookay (South Park teacher) … I mean if we are using the extreme of 3 and 1 I’ll use an extreme as well
3 and 1 in a 20 minute match is undoubtedly an extreme example. It’s probably hard to pull this off. The point was you don’t know if a player went 3 and 1 or 30 and 10 in a 20 minute game when posting a 3 to 1 K/D ratio. You don’t really know how much a player is contributing to a win, whether it be Slayer or Objective, based on K/D alone.
Conversely, a player with a high KPM and low DPM, or a strong KPM/DPM, is probably doing quite a bit to contribute toward a win. Such stats definitively say this player is meeting opponents frequently and beating them. It heavily implies they are contesting and securing objectives. Whether it be power weapons, power ups, zones, balls or flags.
In short, you can post a solid K/D ratio while playing badly. You can post a solid K/D ratio and still lose the game because of it. It’s approaching impossible to post a strong KPM and DPM while playing badly.
Players placing K/D on a pedestal to artificially inflate the stat would sit in a corner. Mostly for selfish reasons. Regardless of whether it helps them actually win the game. Primarily because they aren’t the brightest lightbulbs in the shed and think it validates their performance.
99% of the time those players are bad teammates, setting themselves up to fail and have a fragile ego. They’re playing to make themselves look good. They’re typically the type of player spending all game mouthbreathing into a mic hounding teammates and throwing a post-game tantrum. Instead of like… adjusting their play to help the team win.
Following up to tweak my previous statements… in slayer, KDA is what matters (to me) and most importantly doing it in style in what I strive for. I mean you never leave your wingman
There is so much more than just service records missing but yes very annoying, degrading and unprofessional. Also no commendations. Not to mention infection, ranked slayer, a warzone type mode, shop is rank, colour system is broken, poor weapon sandbox. I want to like the game and play it but i just cant when so much is missing and so many things are not what we wanted or asked.
Btw the fact that the leaderboard is randomized at the end of the march really bugs me to, doesnt make sense and takes away the feeling of accomplishment. Fix that 343.
I remember some of the huge threads discussing the pros and cons of KDA and how best to reflect the value of assists. Different formulas, different weightings. Some great discussion unfolding!
I’d love it if we could unpack each assist. A break down of damage. Who did what. When. With what weapon.
It could tell a great story - especially which one of my bloody wingmen keep stealing my kills
