Will there be more hand made maps

Do we think 343 will make more maps themselves for infinite or will they use forge for most them like in Halo 5? I think forge has evolved very well in Halo 5 (apart from needing to be online and pay for xbox live and not split screen and losing buildings) and am amazed by what has been made in it. My problem is that the maps look very cartoony. I know this word is used a lot for Halo 5. But something about the forge pieces in 5 makes levels look less detailed and more like a Lego game or something. Still impressive though. Like that recreation of a Halo 3 level in a covenant style. Shape is nice but you can tell the walls have just been turned purple and random objects have been used to make covenant style doors. It makes CE levels look better despite the graphical differences.
I just how they go back to hand crafted levels for infinite.

Well to give credit where credit is due 343 focusing on a map maker was a good idea. Though perhaps the blank slate was not the best approach. Forge world, and even Foundry the original canvas map from halo 3 were so much more than just an empty slate. I don’t recall that many community forge creation using the sky area of Sandbox.

Well given how long the game is still going to take, I sure hope all the maps at launch will be dev made. Having a bunch of forge maps at launch just seems lazy in my opinion.

As this game is getting two extra years of dev time I really hope there’s more dev made maps. Having the entirety of BTB using forge maps… sucks. With that said though, slipspace is looking bonkers, so even if there are a lot of forge maps again which I think there will be because why wouldn’t you take advantage of that, they’ll at least look better than H5’s.

Well that depends, given that maps were around before forge and many games don’t have a map creator I think it might be easier to make maps than to make a competent map editor/creator. Still I get what you are saying, there is only so much you can do with forerunner lego blocks and try to sell it as a covenant ship.

Forge maps in halo 5 frustrate me, they are so bland in art design. One of the reasons I went back to mcc

Yeah I honestly hate what 343 did with the forerunner designs, but don’t get me started haha. I would much rather them spend the time creating maps than creating forge, but forge has been a huge part of Halo since it came out, so there’s no way they’ll leave it out.

I’m sure they’ll eventually add some forge maps to the map rotation when the community starts creating some and they become popular. When the game launches though, I want to see dev maps and I hope we’ll get some awesome ones. I’d like to see a decent number of completely new maps plus some remakes of old glories.

I disagree have you played recently? These forge maps look authentic. Seriously they did a good job. Not all but quite a few are passable as real maps. I can’t think of names but the maps that have roads there’s 2 or 3 those look bland. Then you have that ice map, Viking and sandtrap remake. Those are decent. The rest look great imo especially the new ones

I couldn’t agree less. A blank slate is ideal. Foundry, Sandbox, Forge World and the Halo 4 Forge maps only served to limit the creator. That was fine in a time before terrain pieces and visual effects, but we can do so much more in Forge now. A blank slate allows the forger the freedom to create whatever they want without the restrictions of the existing terrain.

I agree that the proper maps have a better look / feel… but you can’t argue that Forge isn’t improving at a great rate of knots. And I imagine that the new Slipspace engine will have been built with Forge in mind - so I can’t wait to see what the many talented forgers out there can do.

I dont trust 343s map design thus far so I hope they do not have hand made maps. Every map in BTB Halo 5 was terrible. Halo 4 had some interesting maps, but they were way too big. I hope they outsource someone from Bungie to make their maps.
