We’ve seen the pine forest, I’m curious if there will be any of the biomes shown in the original engine reveal? It would be awesome to get an arid desert and a snow-covered region. I’m sure it will come down the line, but I’m more curious if it will be in at launch.
I am pretty sure they did a video saying the focus was on Pacific North West. However, they have got at least desert done in one of the multiplayer maps and the talk is that campaign DLC may be a thing. So, making new areas with different biomes makes sense.
I just can’t imagine that the map they showed is supposed to be the entire campaign unless there is a lot of interior spaces.
Bingo. At least for the campaign that’s all we’ll see. Not the end of the world imo seeing as that is a fairly diverse biome, but I do appreciate seeing more diversity in the MP maps we’ve seen.
I would love to see some snowy landscape whether that is campaign or multiplayer.
There will be 7 biomes, The Pacific Northwest is the main biome, and there is sub biomes like swamps, highlands and war-torn deadllands. At launch there should be day/night cycle, fog and wind dynamic weather with the possibility of rain / snow storms coming later. I read somewhere there isn’t snow area, but that may be because they are planning snow storms etc at some point.
Map looked pretty big from what I could tell. Plus, I think the footage is from the bit where Chief gets the weapon from the big tower by the crashed Guardian. So there’s probably areas besides that.
You’re definitely on a Banished ship for one mission at the start. You also seem to be in some big Forerunner facility when you see the Harbinger and Skimmers.
Also, I think the game is going to be like ODST with a central hub area but you activate single player missions as you go around. Total speculation there but I think that’s the case.
I’m fine with it because they can always take us to more radically different places in expansions. I like the PNW I just don’t want it to only ever be that.
Unfortunately, I think the PNW is going to be the sole campaign biome with Banished and Forerunner structures. I bet we’ll have to wait for DLC to get anything new. Really hoping for a CE 343 Guilty Spark swamp. I don’t know how they’d work in the Covenant style now that the Great Journey is over.
Where are you getting this info?
I hope they add more biomes. The Pacific North west biome looks great, but I miss the snow, desert, and jungle from previous Halo titles.
It does kind of bother me that they didn’t consider adding in snow covering for the mountainous areas at least.
Also, the new saga can’t all take place on Zeta Halo and the UNSC/Banished ships around it. I assume the Master Chief will have to leave Zeta Halo at some point. New locations will mean more variety in biomes.
Sounded like very slightly, the PNW is the main biome while there will be badlands and swamps in addition.
If anything this would be awesome for yearly expansions, new planets and such. Kind of like Destiny adding new planets for major expansions.
In future dlcs most likely
Honestly I’d love a lava/volcano biome. We need some lava in Halo.
There was a question and answer thing with 343 back in the spring where they talked about biomes, and about dynamic weather, day/night cycle
I am inclined to believe there is a good chance that we will see several different weather conditions based on the art and renders provided to us thus far.
I would assume that you will be able to play the campaign in a diverse set of different biomes and environments as this has been the case with nearly every other Halo game with the exception of Halo 3: ODST.
It wouldn’t surprise me if you would also be able to play in a snow themed or a desert themed area as a snow theme as been a common denominator with nearly every other previous Halo game* and one of the multiplayer maps seen in the most recent flights did feature a desert theme.
*If I recall correctly, the only Halo games that didn’t feature a snow themed campaign mission are Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4. The campaign mission with a snow theme was Assault on the Control Room and Two Betrayals in Halo CE, Sacred Icon and Quarantine Zone in Halo 2, The Covenant (near the Citadel) and Halo in Halo 3, The Package (end defense) in Halo Reach and Osiris in Halo 5. In addition to this, the Spartan Ops Map Fortress in Halo 4 did also feature a snow theme (E1C3, E2C3 & E4C3)
Yeah it does kinda suck that we won’t have significantly different biomes to explore. And no weather outside fog! Confusing because multiplayer features both of these things. You would think that if they implemented them for MP they could reuse for campaign?
Unless they’re purposely not showing or telling us about any other biomes like desert or snow, I’m guessing there won’t be any in the main game. It’ll be interesting to see what the road map will look like for the sp side considering this is supposed to be a 10 year game.
With the weather effects it could be a performance issue. The MP uses static, baked in lighting because it doesnt need to worry about the time of day changing, the campaign has a dynamic lighting system which is more taxing on the hardware. Having that, and the larger environment loaded in alongside weather effects might have been too difficult for 343 to get working.
