Will there be a "Storm the Beach" Level?

Everyone knows the level in each halo game that involves storming into some sort of large battlefield-like area that usually involves a beach leading into a lust area with tons of enemies to fight.
The levels are as listed:

Halo 1: The Silent Cartographer
Halo 2: Delta Halo
Halo 3: The Covenant
ODST: Uplift Reserve
Halo Reach: Tip of the Spear

It just seems like tradition now, but do you guys think there will be a “storm the beach” level? and if so, how do you think it will play out?

I hope so, those segments were beast.

Allow me to dwell into my psychic powers and I shall give you the answer that you seek.

I hope they give us something totally unique, like fighting on top of moving ships in space.

Or what about fighting in the metallic bottom of the Halo? I just want them to give us something we’ve never seen before, not just the same old Halo.

> I hope they give us something totally unique, like fighting on top of moving ships in space.

That would be incredible.

This.

Also, Long Night of Solace’s opening was Reach’s beach landing. Problem was it neither looked nor felt like The Silent Cartographer’s.

I guess this would have to come after the Infinity crashes, to provide John with support advancing.

Yes, I would love a ‘storm the beach’ level, but I would prefer it be in Spartan Ops.

And I want a ton of A.I. too. Reach didn’t cut it, and I felt like the Halo 3 landing was pretty poor two (I wouldn’t have even counted Delta Halo to be honest).

The amazing thing about the Silent Cartographer beach landing was the scale. Having 10-12 marines back you up while you assault enemy troops . . . pure awesome.

For Halo 4, I’d want to see at least the same amount of Marines that CE had and have them charging enemy emplacements (turrets, enemies behind cover, energy shield barriers, etc). Have Falcons/ Hornets fly over head and perform strafing runs . . . I could imagine it now, and it’d be awesome!

Uplift Reserve hardly qualifies. It’s just a similar setting, not the same scenario.

LNoS is the closest thing to a landing in Reach and it was way too easy. You could skip landings in the trilogy but fighting them wasn’t very easy. It was a challenge keeping all the marines alive and/or in good health on the higher difficulties (especially in CE since they charge without you, let’s not see that happen in Halo 4…). With LNoS, you can just let Noble Team do all the work. I hope this is not the case in Halo 4. I also hope we don’t get something like The Package mission start. That was very lame: spawning with standard weapons, not being able to give the ODSTs better weapons (they all spawn with the AR), and no Elites at all (just a bunch of Grunts).

In the trilogy, the landings were categorized by:

-you spawned with a power weapon
-ample marine support (particularly in CE)
-Hog delivery when cleared
-a prominent Grunt in the cutscene. I know Silent Cartographer didn’t have it but AotCR did. The Grunt on Delta Halo was playing with an object that was different on Heroic and Legendary; Halo 4 needs something like this
-hold the position afterward (Halo 2)
-you can’t stay where you spawned or you’ll die (Halo 2, the Grunts will investigate after killing your ODSTs and you’ll be stuck in a tight spot. Also, Jackal snipers forced you to keep moving)

Let’s hope Halo 4 does not stray from the above and tries to be unique like Halo 2 did.

Not to mention the marines in CE could kick -Yoink-. Reach dropped off around 10 troopers in several instances (on LNoS after securing the facility and on TotS after destroying the 2nd AA gun) and they always got pulverized even if you helped them. They were that bad!!

I would like to see that!

Delta Halo wasn’t a “Storm the Beach level”. It was more like “secure the clifftop ruins”. :stuck_out_tongue:

i love storming the beaches, but i would like to see more, too often its one quick battle and then your hoofing it 1/2 of the way there with little skermishes and not much resistence.

i would love to see at least ONE, where its more like WW2 on D day, there are gun emplacements here and there, you have tanks on both sides etc etc, if its a battle then make it feel like one.

in the books it talks about dozens of grunts coming at you, elites leading the way or what ever, in the games its … what? 6 grunts and … 3 elites? maybe 4 jackels or some thing?

if im assaulting an enemy location, it needs to feel like it.

Yeah why should the fighting end in one location? I can’t believe Silent Cartographer didn’t follow Halo’s (2nd CE level) footsteps where there were multiple accessible locations to visit. There were several areas where battles could have taken place. I remember seeing white Elites and Banshees on SC in a CE trailer and when using SparkEdit for Halo PC, one can find Banshee spawn points in addition to Ghost spawn points on SC.

Agreed, there needs to be more enemies.

yes please

Sure, those parts of the game are awesome. Hopefully 343i can make one the best example yet, even better than The Silent Cartographer and Tip of the Spear.

To me it would seem that the desert looking areas shown in vidocs and that will have a sequence because if you look there’s all those mammoths so it looks like they’re preparing to do a big assault or something.

Trying to categorize what makes these moments is like grasping fro straws. You really can’t do it. You can only experience it.

Yes you can.

There are incentives which Reach was noticeably lacking.

  1. Saving marines.

TotS and LNoS lacked this, instead giving you invincible friendly AI to do your battle on their own. While The Package gave you lousy support (3 ODSTs with Assault Rifles) and a small skirmish (that you could initiate rather than the enemy swarming you). It wasn’t terribly challenging to save the ODSTs. You could pick off most enemies from a distance since they were mostly Grunts.

CE: marines charge into battle
Halo 2: placed in immediate threat (Shade turret, Grunts)
Halo 3: placed in immediate threat (Grunts), marines didn’t proceed without you
Reach: 100% safe

  1. Securing the zone could be rewarding.

Silent Cartographer gave you a decent supply of marines to choose from when you received the Hog. Delta Halo forced you to fight through waves of enemies for the Hog. The Covenant gave you additional reinforcements.

TotS dropped off a Hog but it’s usefulness was minimal. LNoS just gave you access to the facility. The Package was just a skirmish.

  1. Epic starting weapons.

Starting off with the Rocket Launcher on Delta Halo and Spartan Laser on The Covenant really gave credibility to the severity of the situation. The grenade launcher hardly has the same effect.

You could also give them to your marines at the start. The Package starts you off with a DMR and an AR, which they already have, so there’s no swapping whatsoever.

  1. Heavy enemy resistance.

CE: a lot of Elites
Halo 2: Elites, Jackal snipers, Shade gunners
Halo 3: Brutes, War Chieftain, Shade gunners, AA Wraith, Banshees
Reach: just a bunch of Grunts and a Grunt piloted Ghost

  1. Return trips when skipping.

CE: you could go for a Hog or Covie weapons then return, you could proceed with the rest of the mission then come back with a rocket launcher to continue the battle IIRC
Halo 2: you could easily exit the map but the enemies would still be there IIRC
Halo 3: unfortunately, trying to skip the battle causes the battle to finish
Reach: really no point in returning. You’ll have the Scorpion by then

Probably reuniting with the UNSC forces then retaking UNSC Infinity or full on Assault after retaking the Infinity,

I think there should somehow be a part where we get to drop off a crashing pelican and then storm a place like in the fall of reach book.It would be bad -Yoink-.

goes into time machine

Alright guys, it’s not in the game. Instead we will be storming the Jungle instead. ;/ Time to make more complaint threads, brb.
