So with the campaign having much bigger maps to explore, what I’m wondering is will there be a specific reason to do so? In the past we’ve usually had a skull and a terminal in a map, and in Halo 2A we also had toys. I was curious is there had been any information released if there’d be more of that stuff, and what you guys might think it will be. For example in Halo 2, the level Delta Halo can be completed very quickly, but because its a big map I’ve spent hours just glitching out with a ghost or grenade jumping to odd places. And you’d find hidden sniper caches and energy swords in some places. Do you think it will be the same in Halo 5? Or more collectables like COG tags or Intel?
They may bring back skulls as collectables, or since Locke’s team is looking for Blue Team, they may need to look around for clues of their whereabouts. Regardless, I think exploring just for the sake of exploration is reason enough. Halo has some beautiful environments, it’d be nice to have that feeling of awe we had when exploring the levels in Halo CE return in Halo 5.
I believe it was in the recently released Vidoc 343i showcased some hidden paths throughout the levels. Then there’s the Greenskull video with him finding an Easter egg that took multiple steps to activate, then you have Frankie saying they wanted to add more to the maps for players to interact with. Plus Tim Longo… Yes there should be plenty of Easter eggs skulls and terminals lol.
I explored the hell out of CE and there were no skulls or collectibles. But then again, there wasn’t Xbox LIVE and a bunch decent other games out there at the time (at least not that I could afford back then).
So … I don’t know. I’ll probably just explore it because it’s Halo and that’s what you do. It’s one of those franchises that’s really fun to have a look around in case you miss something interesting. Kinda like Dishonored or Bioshock. It’s just part of the territory.
Even if there aren’t skulls or terminals, you still may find something neat. Some hidden easter egg or gun or something.
Fun glitches decreased significantly starting with Halo: Reach, and Easter Eggs were almost non-existent in 4. Halo 1 and 2 had them out the wazoo and it’s something I really missed with the series moving forward.

^this
They even said that you’ll have multiple options to tackle parts of the missions. You can go exploring all you want!
I certainly hope so; Halo 4 started off so well in terms of exploration with the weapons and dialog you could only get if you explored the wreckage on Requiem and then it just kinda dropped it as though it was a box on a list it had to check off and move on.
Halo 5 have different areas to move around in that can be sometimes hidden
Although the mission we saw at e3 didn’t look like there was much to explore
This could be shaped into a really interesting philosophical discussion about the necessity of things being hidden relating to exploration. Shouldn’t we explore just to explore? After all, it is human nature to answer questions and shine light into the darkness. Sometimes we like what we find, and some times we don’t.
Do we need something to be hidden in order for us to search for it?
I hope they bring back Terminals, Skulls, Toys and a bunch of easter eggs! I’ve loved searching for all of them in MCC and it’s a shame when you realize they removed skulls from H4 along with all sorts of fun little easter eggs that are very prevalent in the other 3 games.
Yes there are a lot of reasons to explore, mostly easter eggs, collectibles and to see the wonderful and beautiful scenery. The Elite Homeworld level looks incredible!

Driving to the edge of Tip of the Spear on a plateau of repeated rock textures was fun enough for me. Looking back, most of my most memorable exploration experiences have been not necessarily finding easter eggs, but running around in places clearly not designed for running around, keeping eyes open for possible secrets. On the other hand, trying to get to easter eggs you’ve looked up on the internet can be equally fun. But I would say that you don’t necessarily need any more incentive than the promise of an adventure and the potential for exploration. Everything else is just a nice bonus.
I’m nearly certain that Guardians will be packed with content to keep us exploring the game world. I know I will personally explore every corner of Sanghelios that they give us, the environments themselves are worth exploring just to look at. As for collectables, 343i has stated that there are quite a few of those in different forms. Halo 4 made me want to explore, there was so much lore content in nearly every level.

Same here, man. So much fun just to see where you can get to sometimes. I’ve had accidental super jumps from standing on Scarab legs, to standing on top of mountains, looking outside of the map because the developers didn’t think to finish the design that far off the map, etc.
It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey.
The new abilities will allow players to exercise new moves and methods of exploring the map, pretty much like a Metroid game. So when you see a wall up in the distance that you know you can bash through you’re going to go there. 343 said there will be more missable lore, characters etc.

Oh ok sweet thanks for the info! I will certainly be exploring the world regardless of how much stuff, but its nice to know there will be some cool surprises along the way.
Maybe you can find weapon skins, armor unlocks and attachments to slap on peppered throughout the map…
In a few words I say, I hope so.
I hope that whatever collectible they implement, that they will have an effect in game, no matter how small. Similar to how Halo 3: ODST treats audiology. They are a short story that adds background to the events, but finding them all changes a cutscene slightly.
Imagine if say the run in with ‘Warden Eternal’ could have different dialogue if you had collected all ther terminals/domain entries or if chief has ‘data on cortana/psych evaluation reports on himself’ that you can recover from Oni computers, that eventually chief will call the ‘cortana ghost’ out on not being real.
