With this being the last season, presumably that means the end of “Complete 30 Weeklies”. The reason this is relevant is because, after a certain rank, ranking up doesn’t give you season points anymore. This makes XP challenges on their own unnecessary, with the seasonal challenge being the only reason to do them. Personally I think we should get season points from rank ups again, because without it there is no point to these challenges. At the very least give us season points for completing the “VS CPU” and “Peoples vs Peoples” challenges. I don’t think you get any for completing an entire deck, but if you do, that should be made more clear.
I honestly don’t think they EVER had a purpose after lvl 100. Normally you have some progression and rewards tied to XP, but they just have the lvl emblem.
I never even bothered with the XP only challenges as why would I? I would rather spendy time playing something else until the season point challenges refresh.
Honestly, after I hit the rank limit for season points, I only did those challenges for the seasonal one to do weeklies. Now that I have that done, I guess it just doesn’t matter anymore. My main issue with the system is it punishes people who play the game daily. Most weeklies, especially the ones that give SP, can be done same day. This means if you knock them out pretty quickly, you can’t progress the season until waiting a full week. This system just sucks, to be honest. I want to be rewarded for playing regularly, not just for doing chores.
It’s the end of official seasons, but they still might change up the seasonal challenges in the future.
I would appreciate if they did, but that remains to be seen. It still doesn’t really feel like the XP challenges have any purpose. Maybe they could reward a random exchange item for completing decks, or a full sweep.
I think weeklys are just on a cycle so I doubt they’ll ever vanish. Also I doubt it’s the final season since 343i did say they up to season 10. Just means smaller seasons. XP challenges after a while will end up being more for people who just want to get max rank in MCC and people trying to catch up on items they missed in the previous seasons or the exchange.
It’s like I’m tier 8 so every bit of extra exp helps. As far as I’m aware 343i said it’s the final season of this year and not last season 343i will ever do. There primary focus now will be Infinite but that doesn’t mean MCC won’t get the occasional mini-season.
Not unless they announce an incentive linked to Infinite relating to max rank in MCC. But I don’t want that. The SR-152 grind ruined me.
I think they confirmed this already, challenges will remain on a cycle. Halo 5 playlists will become fixed.
Realistically I think Infinite will be putting the older Halo games to rest.
They already stated that the whole “10 seasons” plan has changed. Season 8 is the final “actual” season, but updates to the game, including more content, will continue. It’s just not under the previous season format.
Umm like I said “mini-season”. Didn’t say future seasons would be the same length. Of course the plans have changed. Any future seasons will be smaller in the future and less common. Pretty sure they said final season of the year.
I’d link the link but the rank system seems to have made it so I can’t send links anymore and seems the actual new page that has the post has been removed from Halo Waypoint so it no longer exists.
Seasons as we know it are ending. The last we heard is the 343 is exploring other options to release cosmetics, which if the 20th anniversary is any indication of the future I’m guessing it’s all going straight to the exchange.
Why do you stop receiving season points after the 100th rank up in the first place? It kind of made sense when they first introduced seasons and the Reach season was the only one available with 100 unlocks. Now what is the reason for the limit?
Why not start rewarding season points after every rank? And retroactively award points to the people who already passed 100? They will still be playing the game and contributing to the player pool, so what is the problem?
As far as I can tell, there is literally no reason. It’s not like the general XP you get from matches is enough for you to blaze through the seasons, so you would only get a boost in SP on a weekly basis. It’s just kinda poorly thought out, and with Infinite having the challenge based progression, I have a feeling it’s going to be equally painful and unsatisfying.
Season Points per rank were introduced as the first iteration of the system back when Halo Reach was added to MCC.
Essentially it was super easy for people to boost levels in matchmaking to easily level up fast by maximising XP per game and essentially grinding out a season’s worth of content in a day or so.
8 player fireteams would go into FFA and make sure they all got 24 kills and max assists etc to ensure they get the total XP possible in a match.
The system changed to challenges to essentially stop being from boosting the season pass out in a short space of time.
You could look at the change as a artificial time increase to get the completion but I honestly think it’s a good system.
Allows players to do less damage to themselves by getting it all done quickly and then being bored til the next Season comes out.
Pacing out rewards and keeping player retention is better for the health of the game in the long run.
Alright, but it seems that system is punishing the many for the sins of the few. And really, if the types of people who boost in matchmaking get bored and stop playing the game is that any great loss?
I understand what you’re saying but you’re also kind of disregarding the second half of what I said.
With Season Points being tied to weekly challenges 343i are essentially able to prolong the player retention for Halo MCC. Challenges being tied the the Seasonal rewards gives players an incentive to come back and play the game week after week.
Whilst I’m sure players would love to have everything unlocked at a faster rate they also put themselves into a grind to unlock everything.
343i have to consider the best way to retain the population of their current leasing title whilst also finding a middle ground that supports player unlocks through the time they spend in game.
To me it seems 343’s philosophy is that they don’t want you to feel like you have to grind out everything immediately and feel like you’re locked into Halo because you need to get it all. In a way it’s protecting players from themselves.
Play at a healthy pace, once you’ve got everything for the week, keep playing for fun or enjoy some of the other games you have too.
I didn’t disregard it. I do disagree with that sentiment though. I don’t think your average player is boosting their way through the pass. I don’t think many even bother to complete all the challenges. I think they’re completing a handfull of challenges every week, maybe every couple of weeks, and they are suddenly disappointed to learn that past a certain point they lose one of their main sources of season points for no apparent reason.
In my case, I still earn points for ranking up. I am maybe more dedicated than most, earning a fair few challenge rewards per week. Without continuing rank up points, I think I’m never going to complete all the season passes. I will have to pick my battles and decide what items will remain out of reach.
If people want to boost the pass, why not let them? The cosmetics give them no advantage in game. They are not cheating 343 out of any money. And if they find they have nothing to work for, that was their choice. Remember when Halo CE and Halo 2 didn’t have cosmetic unlocks at all? People still played them for years on end. And many still played 3 even after they had all of the achievements and armour. Have developers really lost so much faith in their own games that they think no one will play unless they are drip fed rewards?
Why give season points for ranking up in the first place if it is such a problem? Why ever make it a thing? It feels bad to have rank-up rewards just to arbitrarily lose them at some point.
Is it complete heresy for me to say, that the XP challenges can be done for those who, like those in the old days, wanna achieve the rank progression and get that sweet rank emblem? I for one still do XP challenges solem for progress towards Champion Rank. Season points come naturally as i play and i get the unlocks vice versa… But in my heart, i play MCC to play Halo and that is the primary. I know nowadays is all about getting them sweet unlocks and playing with that in mind, but surely you folks just wanna turn on MCC and play Halo right? The rest comes naturally.
Honestly past season one unless you liked having the fancy high level emblem next to your name there never was a point to xp
I do not like this line of thinking. The whole reason to have such an unrewarding system, is to retain players. But they are using and artificial time gate to do ot, just like how it seems with Infinite.
Plus, it definitely doesn’t retain many as every week I play to get the challenges done for a day then play something else all week, as until then my playtime doesn’t add to my progression.
