By any chance, will we ever get a new content update in the near future?
Yes, the devs have confirmed more work is in the works, and that there is more to add in due time.
Its just scaling down from here on out
I’m hoping to see more forge stuff in the next update, new cosmetics is nice, but without seasons, it just doesn’t feel right y’know?
Personally I think MCC WILL eventually do seasons 9 and 10 as promised, despite saying they won’t. My reasoning for this train of thought? Halo Infinite is sinking like the Titanic right now, players are jumping ship left and right, and while the game is by no means dead, it’s hurt, badly, and 343 needs a safety net right now, that safety net will be MCC until 343 can put Infinite together properly.

## MCC
Halo: The Master Chief Collection ’s next game update is well underway! We are working with the Publishing Team to get all of the final details around when players can expect to see more content brought to this legacy collection.
Right now, there are some amazing things cooking that players have been asking questions about. We’ll have more to say soon, so stay tuned in the coming weeks for the next MCC Development blog which will shed light on plans for the MCC in 2022 and how that content is going to roll out!
Correct again.
MCC has an important role to play. Expanding and fixing it, further and further honing it into a fully realised gold standard videogame collection not just as an apology/thank you to the fans but to enrich the series and IP itself going forward, for both old and new players.
Doing this is literally a goodwill generator and is even healthy for Infinite.
Care for a bit of a history lesson? This might give you some insight as to why 343 thought cancelling MCC was a good idea.
Ok so I’m sure you are familiar with Minecraft Bedrock Edition yes? Well when Bedrock Edition first came out, Microsoft had Mojang announce they’d be pulling support from the original console editions, despite 4J studions, entirely separate from Mojang, were the ones working on it, only giving the Aquatic update to the 360/PS3/Wii U versions of console edition while intentionally not giving it to Xbox One/Switch users for the sole fact that Microsoft knew if the Aquatic update launched on modern hardware console edition NOBODY would play Bedrock edition so they shot themselves in the foot to stifle competition from themselves.
This is what I think is history repeating itself, Microsoft knows MCC is the better game, Microsoft knows if MCC keeps going on as it has been, Infinite will be a dead game, but the reality is, Infinite is hemmorahaging players left and right whilst MCC hasn’t been touched in months.
Microsoft don’t see how keeping MCC in-tact and up to date will not only stop the badwill exploding from Infinite, it may also get players to re-invest in the game once it’s in a better place and have MCC to hold them over in the mean time.
IMO only giving MCC one more year of support is a terrible business decision, because were it not for MCC’s last 2 years of updates, 343 wouldn’t be getting the time of day from the community, let alone getting away with half the crap they’re pulling in Infinite.
I agree. Support for MCC should be as follows:
-
Over this year get everything done that needs doing.
-
Beyond that, continue rolling out smaller updates and patches and this is vital; going forward select cream of the crop fan-made content/improvements and officially implement it.
-
Switch port. Not only would fanatics like me double dip for this but it would introduce an otherwise nonexistent Xbox/Halo mindshare to a wildly successful Nintendo platform. And would increase player population too.
If MCC was on switch I’d probably finally cave and buy one.
All Microsoft needs to do is get Nintendo to greenlight Gamepass on Switch and there’s your Switch port.
As for the continual updates, bump up the private file limit to 150 maps PER Title, that means Halos 3, 2A, Reach, and 4 all have a total of 150 map slots on their own and a total of 600 map slots combined.
Also future MCC updates should be adding one or two new features to Forge for each title, for example the ability to disable dev made barriers in both Forge and Custom games. Forge World without limitations would have players flooding back in.
There was an update mentioned in the recent community update. I’m looking forward to it!
While your suggestions are great ideas, I don’t think there really is any feature that 343 could add that would bring in a massive influx of players. Halo’s gameplay loop doesn’t seem to have the staying power as much as other titles.
Except it does when it’s done well. MCC was keeping pretty decent numbers for a 7 year old game when it was getting constant attention. If the MCC team just keeps working on MCC post 2022, even if it’s just fixing bugs or issues with the game, player retention will continue.
It’s also not like Infinite is doing so hot in player retention either, the difference is MCC still has issues and there’s been months of radio silence regarding it until just this week, whereas Infinite is just poorly built.
Steam charts have shown a constant decline with the most influx of players after launch being July 2020 because Halo 3 was added to MCC PC. I would imagine a similar trend for MCC on Xbox. Even with a CGB, Flood FF, and better mod support the population will probably never hit the player counts Halo used to garner in the H3/Reach days. The genre is too saturated. You can add the pelican, Sabre, seraph, and hell even Reach forge to H3 and it will never be enough to bring in a surge of new players. The only thing that might do it would be user generated content with mods, but given how niche CE PC was, I wouldn’t put a lot of faith into it.
I can guarantee you that infinites population is at least several times what MCC is putting. Even after Infinite sheds off its unsustainable launch population it will always be bigger than MCC because it’s free to play.
part of the issue here is that MCC is MCC; Retention is hard when you’re juggling so many games that nobody will ever 100% be satisfied with, since none of them will ever get that directed focus they desperately needed.
this is why since 2019 I’ve always believed that if they had simply rereleased Custom and Vista to Steam as hype generators, spent the time with Saber to rework Halo Online into a merged Halo 3 & ODST for 2021-2022, planned ahead to bring Reach to PC by 2024-2025, and kept Infinite a Console exclusive, the entire IP would be in a better state than it is today.
I would agree with that, except for one major flaw. Halo Infinite is a terrible game, not just from it’s bland mechanics, but from it’s basic core design, the game is literally held together by gum and popsicle sticks, and 343 seems to only be adding any kind of meaningful updates to the store.
What gives MCC an edge, is ANYBODY can go back and experience thousands of hours of actual FREE content. No Microtransactions, no storefront, no BS. Just good old fashioned Halo at it’s best. Infinite will NEVER have that luxury.
I remember coming home from Halo 3’s midnight launch and seeing over 1 million players online at once. Those were the days.
The thing is if they have complete mod support in mcc like haloce levels it would be alive for a lot more than people think. look at haloce. It was pretty much alive before mcc pc was announced
