With the upcoming Halo Infinite coming out next year, is there still time to release a prequel novel book that is set after Halo 5 and before Halo Infinite?
There hasn’t been any news on upcoming Halo novels (Halo:Oblivion was the last one to release in September), but I think there is a high probability we will get something in 2020. Be it comic book or novel, we are bound to get some tie-in material before launch. If I had to guess, we are going to get something covering what the extended cast are up to around the time Halo:Infinite takes place.
Matt Forbeck’s “Bad Blood” takes place after Guardians and definitely helps establish the Created threat and the state of the Halo Universe in the wake of H5. It’d be the closest thing to an Infinite prequel novel I can think of presently.
I’d not be surprised to get more in 2020 leading up to the game’s release, though. All indications seem to point to there being a reasonably long chronological gap between H5 and Infinite, so we could be seeing stories set in that window for years to come.
I can’t remember what interview it was but Frankie and Grim were interviewed and talked about starting Infinite with all players 'Having lots of questions" like what is going on, how did we get here, etc. So I doubt we will get a lot of story lead up to the release of infinite. I really think they are going to be holding their story cards close to their vests. Meaning I doubt we will get a novel closely tied to Infinite - maybe a novel that sets up the state of the galaxy overall leading up to Infinite but not sure what that would look like without giving to much away of Infinite’s story.

Perhaps on July 14th, 2020. That is the next book’s release date at least.
See here for Simon and Schuster’s website. there is one book with VERY little info. I did find this:
Product Details:
- Publisher: Simon & Schuster Audio / Halo Books (July 14, 2020) - Runtime: 11 hours and 30 minutes - ISBN13: 9781797105703
There is no doubt , in my mind anyway , we will get a prequel novel. Whether it ties directly into the beginning of Infinite is doubtful. We will likely get that novel after release , to avoid spoilers.
Really hoping that they tie in some Flood or Forerunner themes into the new novel that link into Infinite. If they made it a sequel to the Forerunner trilogy I would be so happy.

I think mostly the same way about this.

I don’t think there is any upcoming novels but i think they should do just that tho.
I’ll read any amount of books/audiobooks as long as people don’t try and exposition dump in my ear while I’m trying to shoot everything like in 5.

Dang. I did well. That makes the 4th prediction I .
got correct.
- Bungie left Activision
- Halo is a Next-Gen Game
- Halo is the Launch Title for the Next-Gen Title
- This book is basically a prequel to Halo: Infinite. Sort of.
I’m sure there will be some tie-in material released either just before or just after release, but I hope its not anything that you have to read to understand the game, just enhance your experience.
For instance, you could do a novel that follows the life of Pelican Pilot (or maybe just recent events post the Covenant war) that allows you to better understand his character and his emotional background. But the game needs to do a decent job of making him feel like a whole character in itself for anyone who doesn’t read the book.
I know this is an old thread, but “Shadows of Reach: A Master Chief Story” will be a tie-in, starting two years before “Infinite” and ending about six days before the game starts.
That describes Shadow of Reach, no?

My link in the post above leads to the Shadows of Reach book page. I have been mentioning this for a while. I came across it in December 2019 and mentioned it here in this thread and made my own. Very few people took it seriously nor cared to respond. But as we can see, the book is indeed as I suspected. A prequel to Halo Infinite and a release date I expected. It has been up for pre order since December and already had a registered ISBN13 and ISBN number. (One is Audio. One is Physical. Most likely Paper Back.)
The post above was written around mid December of last year and lists the known facts about the book at that time. Obviously the page has been updated dramatically since.

Halo Infinite is a cross gen game. You were close though.

Haha! True. I worded that wrong. And the original guess was actually “Halo will probably be a next-gen game and the statement on Halo Waypoint suggesting it is going to be an Xbox One only title is probably a ruse. I believe it will be on the next console.” I did not say the words “too” nor “instead” and therefore can be taken either way. But I expected the game to launch solely on the next gen. PC was expected after seeing 343 Industries make Halo MCC on Steam. It was not a consideration when originally making the assumption.
The quote above is paraphrased from a comment I made back in December 2018.
Kinda. It’s called shadows of reach. Master chief and blue team return to reach after h5 to retrieve some special item. Whether it’s a prequel or not I’m not sure but it’s in between 5 and infinite
