Will the Halo video games follow The Mandalorian approach?

Let’s assume that 343 Industries want to tell more stories in the Halo universe especially in the video games, is it possible that they will follow in a similar way like The Mandalorian where they will move away from the Master Chief’s storylines to focus on a new main character, while at the same time they will expand the universe going forward?

I hope so. Besides, Master Chief isn’t the main character of Halo; Halo is too big to have a singular main character. He’s just the primary playable protagonist of the mainline games.

I don’t know if 343 Industries really want to do this in the Halo video games, but it will be an interesting idea to see it happened. Since the Star Wars franchise have bounty hunters, I think it will be cool to see the Halo universe introduce their own version of bounty hunters. I am thinking like a Magnificent Seven style Halo video game where the story focus on a small group of bounty hunters.

I don’t think so.

Disney is able to put these shows out every year. It took 343 6 years to make Infinite. They clearly can’t make enough content to cover an MCU style story with a big cast. So just Chief makes sense in that context otherwise you’re just taking our attention from the main story rather than adding to it.

You would need spin off games to do that. Right now, they’ve said no to Halo Wars 3. So unless they’re sat on ODST 2.

SeanW reckons no Campaign DLC until 2025 at the earliest.

Also it’s complicated by the way the content is delivered. A Disney show can just ship the story. But a Halo game is expected to have its own multiplayer and not just be a spin off story. 343 can’t, right now, just sell us the campaign on the same engine.

The books look like they’re meant to cover some of the gaps and cut ideas from Halo Infinite. Like Shadows of Reach seems to be based on some early concept art. Bad Blood brings in Laconia Station. We have the Vale and Arbiter book. So they seem to intend to dump some of these ideas to the books that can tell some of these stories. Not what I’d like to know I suspect but that’s another can of worms.

Our multiplayer Spartans. I don’t know where that’s going. Right now they are being stupidly vague about the story and that’s not helped by all these delays. We will have all forgot about the Endless by 2025. So is this just going to be irrelevant adventures with the Banished or are they going to introduce serious lore and world building.

I will say this, I think 343 Industries should just take their time planning out the next Halo video games especially if they are moving forward with the next 10 years plan. I mentioned this before. 343 Industries should find someone to be put in charge of the next 10 years plan for Halo. I am thinking like finding someone who have a similar skills like how Kevin Feige did with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni did with the Star Wars live action tv series. That is why I still think that Joseph Staten should become the Kevin Feige in the Halo franchise.

Take their time? Is this the Winds of Winter?

I don’t know about Jo and they need to stop course correcting and just let the story unfold naturally. You can’t hold peoples suspense and get them speculating on the next chapter if you keep rebooting.

To give an example, HiddenXperia (lore YouTuber who should be eager for content) mentioned offhand that “oh they’ll probably resolve the Created thing in a book”. Total disinterest in the lore of the wider galaxy and Earths status. Even though in canon fodder article they say that we are meant to view this as a mystery. That apathy and disinterest is because they’ve kept flip flopping on lore that it’s not viewed as a living world where you can ask these questions.

I don’t quite know how much of Jos ideas made it into Halo Infinite since he joined quite late.

Plus I think that he would make the story too light hearted and Saturday morning cartoon. Destiny can at times have that balance between goofy and space opera.

Also I am just not a fan of them retconning the prior games. Especially because I am really not sold on the Weapon as Cortana 2.0. To me she should just stay a reminder of what you’ve lost and something you have had forced on you. Halo 4 works because she is an established character and it will be off if they start acting as if the Weapon is Cortana. If you insisted on killing her off then you can’t soft reboot your way out of that. Literally, the only people I’ve seen slip up and call her Cortana are 343 employees. Like there was a poll on the forum and 70 percent said they didn’t want her to take Cortanas name.

Like could you imagine if they did the Logic Plague story with the Weapon and asked you to really care?
