Ive been playing the doom beta, and honestly its one of the best shooters ive ever played. do yall think this game will devastate the halo 5 servers when the full game comes out?
Without a question. So much for 6 months of “free content”… A lot of people will be moving on to other games like DOOM by the time all of this content is done rolling out.
The base gameplay looks good, but the whole demon-possessed power-up thing ain’t my cup of tea…
I’ll certainly be playing a lot of DOOM and a lot less Halo.
I will still play halo 5 because I like the game modes that it has created. The doom Forge thing is not something I can get behind because I can already see its limitations with it. And I really like to forge when I have an idea.
I got bored of doom pretty quickly. Ill play whatever campaign it has and move back to halo.
“XXX will kill YYY,” the useless debate tactic of every video game forum. Because everybody only plays one video game nowadays.
Doom? Meh. Don’t care.
Doom has been very fun and a nice change of pace to grinding Halo since October. I plan on playing it while it’s available this weekend. That doesn’t mean I’m going to quit playing Halo though.
I think it will significantly cut into my Halo time at the very least. Slowish movement speed with no obligatory sprint mechanic? I would prefer faster base movement, but it’s definitely reminiscent of classic Halo. 2 weapons at a time? Double jump and a less intrusive clamber ability? A weapon sandbox filled with interesting, viable, UNIQUE weapons instead of a bunch of redundant garbage and direct, easier upgrades like this game? Multiple on-map power-ups? Interesting, complex maps with multiple paths (and portals)? A throwable teleporter that can even be used to telefrag chumps? Hilarious taunts? Awesome customization options? Yes, please.
I could do without the loadouts, “hack modules,” and demon runes, but the game is a blast to play regardless. Even the loadout system is balanced out somewhat by the great weapon set.
I played doom at Quake con last year. Afterwards I kind of had the same thoughts but I reserved them because h5 hadn’t come out yet. Now that it’s here, I can say that this will likely happen. Too much was missing at launch, and now a days that’s “okay” because devs just roll that missing content out over the games lifespan (forge, infection, griffball, optimized UI). Why not have griffball and infection there in the first place so that way you can give us fresh, new stuff to play with?
I’m sure it’s microsoft studios fault for not giving 343 enough time to complete the game, or maybe just flat out telling them what not to have there right away. Still, it sucks for us, which isn’t fair.
Doom plays great, and if it provides us with a complete package at launch I think we can expect for players to move on from h5. In my honest opinion it looks like doom was meant to compete with halo directly, if that theory holds up 343i is really in for it. Who knows? If doom shoots halo down, that just means that 343 has a new standard to meet, which can be good for the studio.
I feel like “plummet” is a bit of an exaggeration. The servers may go a little lower than the average population, but then after a while the population will be fine.
Yup. Rip Halo. You had your chance 343

Doom’s PvP is arguably much closer to old school Halo than Halo 5 is, which kind of makes sense, given that Certain Affinity developed the multiplayer. I think it’s very possible that the people looking for that kind of experience left this game long ago or never bought it to begin with, so the population loss has already happened. I’m sure there are plenty of disenfranchised ex-Halo players that Doom can pick up when it launches and all of the Warzone kids will continue grinding through that tedium as per usual.
Doom reminds me a lot of what i think halo should be now. its fast paced, but still very retro arena-esc

Probably my kids, they love Cheerios and get crap everywhere.
I have no interest in Doom, is that a particularly angry stance? I just get a laugh every time I see a post in any game forum where someone takes a title that’s about to launch that they’re interested in and say, “Yeah, I’m pretty sure this game is going to kill this other game.” It never proves the case.

He’s got a point, though.
These threads have been around for many, many years. And each have predicted doom and gloom that… Imagine that, never took place.
I’ll take “This game will die because so and so” with a grain of salt, I’m not very invested in doom regardless. I have enough shooters to satisfy the niche.

Sometimes I think, “I play too much Halo.” Then I see folks who’ve dumped twice as much time into the game as they complain about it and think, “I’m doing alright.”
A new shooter without sprint and ridiculous over-the-top movement mechanics? Sign me up. I’m looking forward to Doom because it looks like it will do “Halo” gameplay better than the recent Halo games. I’m hoping Doom becomes popular enough for 343 to copy the no-sprint formula for Halo 6.

Oddly enough, I fully expect these posts to continue even after Doom launches. I just have that sneaking suspicion…
