WILL THE FORERUNNERS RETURN?

I dont understand why the Forerunners saved other species before firing Halo rings but didn’t save themself. Is there a chance some are still alive?

The Forerunners didn’t index themselves for repopulation because they felt they didn’t deserve it. They believed they had failed the galaxy, and committed the greatest sin by galactic genocide. The Forerunners returned temporarily when the Ur-Didact was awoken. He’s currently “contained” after being composed on Clinquant (Composer’s Forge). An unknown Builder is in the Halo 5 intel, talking about Bastion (a shield world).

Depends. The survivors opted not to reseed themselves because they felt their kind did not need to meddle in the affairs of the Galaxy anymore. They settled on individuals worlds and are left to uncertain fates. If they are in stasis, maybe they may return. The Iso-Didact and his wife, Chant-to-Green had a son and live as simple farmers. They have a ship buried that they can access, but it’s not certain if they will.

To clarify, the Forerunners didn’t index themselves because they had an entire Ark to themselves, far larger than the one used to save everything else. They planned to save their society in its entirety, not just their genetic identity. That “Greater Ark” was destroyed by the Flood just before the Halo array was fired, and the only survivors we know of were those Forerunners on the Lesser Ark who did feel that their species didn’t deserve to continue, and as a result sentenced themselves to isolation for the rest of their lives.

However, we don’t know if they all went through with it, or if some of them decided to start over anyways. It is possible that Bornstellar’s son could have found the ship and armor after his parents passed and returned, or sought out other Forerunners, but we just don’t know.

There were also the Forerunners in Path Kethona, but when one of the Greater Ark’s Halos fired that direction, there’s no way of knowing if that shot hit their planet or not. After all, the effect is described as respecting neither space nor time, and stretching across the entire distance.

It is also unlikely, but possible, that other Cryptums besides the Ur-Didact’s could have remained intact, and that there are Forerunners who still live but never got their wake-up calls. The books don’t touch on this, so we just don’t know.

**SORRY FOR MISTAKES I’M TALKING FRENCH.**First, the Forerunners were thinking that the peace in the galaxie could exist, so they sacriffied themself to save all the galaxie about the flood attack. But, like two specimens of flood stilled alive and they multipliated to create an army! So,I don’t think that some Forerunners survived at this genocide.

Certainly. No way didact is dead given that he was “contained” and fans want him back. Im sure well get more librarian memories, but its also possible shes still alive. Highly likely the iso didact is still alive, since he activated the array, and if u are on the rings when they fire u are safe. I also bet u the builder in halo 5 intel is master builder faber

I really hope so. The Didact in Halo 4 was a good villain, and if 343i didn’t wuss out at the to-be-expected backlash - which happens with every Halo game - they could have made him a great villain. There’s certainly some wriggle room in the lore for a Forerunner return.

The same reason all the elves left MIddle Earth. They knew their time was past and so decided to lead simple rustic lives until their dwindling numbers died off.

Remember theres only a handful of Forerunners left at this point, not enough for a viable population. Plus I think the idea is that they felt that they had failed or were flawed as a species in some way. So it made no sense to reseed the galaxy with their genetic material and repeat past mistakes. If they wanted to reseed themselves then they would be reclaimers; not humanity. Part of passing the torch means you understand that your time is done and ended.

Or, massive plot twist. Brutes are actually devolved Forerunners.

Theres a few thematic reasons they won’t:

  • Whole point is that the Forerunners died to allow humans to be the Reclaimers. Its that whole Saving Private Ryan “earn this…” deal.

  • Although the Didact has warped this somewhat, the Forerunners are good guys within the Halo Universe. This is why all of their tech was gifted to humanity and why they made the ultimate sacrifice against the Flood. As good guys if they returned, they would basically break the setting as humanity would have too powerful an ally. They could easily deal with Cortana and the Banished. Basically the Didact is the exception, not the rule in the case of Forerunners.

  • 343 have said that they wanted to make Cortana the villain from the start. This implies that the Prometheans were introduced not as the footsoldiers of the Forerunners return but as essentially Terminators for Skynet. Chrome robots, skull faces, franchise that liberally copied from 80s sci fi movies like Alien and The Thing. So I think the Didact was only ever meant to facilitate this turn of events. Meaning reintroducing the Forerunners is unlikely.

  • Whole point of Reclaimer Saga is that humanity succeeds where the Forerunners failed. You can’t do that if they show up and save our bacon. That doesn’t scream “Go humanity!”.

@total war1402:You say the Forerunners are good guys but as seen in Halo 4 terminals they fought a war against Humans

I believe that the foreunners had fled to a magelenic cloud to monitor humanities progress and form a foreunner society in the dwarf galaxy to try and form a successful society to make up for the wrong they had comited against the mantle and seed the galaxy like what the precursors we’re doing. I also believe in Halo 6 the foreunners will come and reclaim the galaxy after seeing that humanities not worth surviving after the created win but they would put some humans in a magelenic cloud to see if they could reclaim the mantle again.

Halo Renegades seen to suggest that the Librarian still exists in some form. The Haloverse has done a great job creating this alien species to the point that I still get confused over some concepts. And yeah, there does seem to be a spattering of Forerunners out there, but as other comments have said that their guilt will probably keep them isolated to live out their years.

Cheers,
