I ordered MCC on disc because I thought, “This game is gonna be massive so I am gonna buy the disc to save space”. Yeah that didn’t pan out. I have to use the disc now and I also have 90 gigs of my hard drive gone. Back in the 360 games era I never wanted digital games. Now I hate discs, and digital is the only way to go.
I realize that game and Halo 5 should be much different in size. So will pre-ordering the disc actually save me space on my hard drive this time around? Or if I buy the disc will I still need to install it on my hard drive to take up the space anyway? If I do then what the hell is the point of a disc at all? If it scratches or breaks I lose the game and ever damn game I have pre-ordered and paid to get it day 1, I end up getting it like a weeks later (no joke I pre-ordered AW and it said it would be there day 0, IT TOOK A WEEK! -Yoink- you not the third day it didn’t come I bought the digital version, downloaded it in like 30 minutes and I was playing. Got my “pre-ordered day 0” disc in the mail 7 days later). And even though a pre-order discs promises “get it day of release” mail is never a gaurantee. If I pre-order the digital verson I can get it literally the minute it is released, ya can’t top that.
Yes all games are installed on the hard-drive whether you purchase disc or digital it works the same. The disc basically is just a key to say you own the game nothing more.
They’re identical. Disc and digital. It’s the same information and it all needs to be installed.
It’s just a different method of getting it onto the console. Sort of like e-mailing someone a file in an attachment vs. burning that same file to a CD-R. It’s a same file, and it’s getting put onto their computer, only one method requires the internet and the other requires a disc drive and a disc that you have to physically get to them.
I don’t even own any games on disc anymore. I don’t see any point. All the disc does is serve as a key as proof that you own it in order to allow your console to launch the game. For me, I can launch every game on my Xbox One without swapping any discs or worrying about scratching them.
Pick yourself up an external hard drive. It needs to be a USB 3.0. I got a 1tb external on Amazon for around $50. You can get a 3tb for a little over $100, so they’e fairly reasonable in price considering how much of a lifesaver they are. Especially when you consider I spent $300 on a 500gb hard drive less than 10 years ago. lol.
I expect discs to be a thing of the past for the next console cycle. Perhaps still have the function, but see limited use.

They’re fast becoming the vinyl records of gaming. They’re cool and have more artwork and such, though they’re clearly disadvantageous, and only purchased solely to show off or keep in a collection.

Plus for some reason they are still cheaper, once digital sorts itself out though and starts selling games for the same or better prices than physical which should happen then digital will become the most popular format. It won’t happen for a little while yet though as people are still limited by internet usage and connection speed at this time, it should however change in the coming years however.

Yep this is exaclty why I asked. Digital it is then.
Why the hell are companies even bothering with discs then? They would save money not using them, or at least not so many. Xbox is still pushing disc releases hard. I was gonna pre-order Halo for the 10 bucks in points, but its still not worth it. I can get the digital easier, faster , and I don’t need anything in my drive to play it.
And yes I am hoping this black friday or some good deal day to score a 2T external usb drive and call it good for a long time lol.
Thanks guys! Cheers!

Is it cheaper? Every full priced digital game I’ve gotten was $59.99.
Either way, it still pays off to go digital, though you gotta get creative. I had a 360 full of digital games, and I ended up selling it to a friend when I was strapped for cash. I just uninstalled my profile and he got all those games. Then later, I bought a new 360, downloaded my profile, went to my purchases and reinstalled them for free. Now we both have those games and they were only purchased once. Though, that’s not really cheaper, it’s just creating more copies, I guess. And you can only do that so many times on different systems, I think.
I did get Dishonored Remastered for $20 off by going digital because I purchased the original digitally. And digital copies go on sale more often than disc, so there are some $$$ perks.

Yeah if you sign up to the rewards programme through live you earn money back on your purchases also so well worth doing. Same then as earning points towards games that you would buy in store.

This is why i went digital, My first game was a disc because I thought it was going to save space too… it didn’t, so I saw no point in buying discs.
If it saved space, you bet id have all discs, but no.
Some of us (specially me) have a really slow internet speed. The games that i’ve downloaded have taken days (last week I got DCUO for my PC and it took the whole week and it weights 30 Gb) My connection is slow and really faulty, so I prefer to get a disc, install it from there and put the case in my room, right next to my other games.

I’ve never gotten a digital copy that was cheaper than its disc counterpart except when on-sale, which is not the same as being cheaper in general.
Production-wise, it should be cheaper, but we the consumers are unlikely to see that benefit anytime soon. Game prices are still slowly increasing and publishers are not going to let something as simple as format change separate them from easy profit.
