Will (sold out) consoles hurt Infinite sales?

How badly do you think halo infinite will sell…

If you can’t get ahold of a series x/s for retail price?

$700 for an X no thanks.
Or an $400-600 ish for the diskless series S.

Maybe they will be restock them near infinite release?

Side note which console will you play infinite on.

They definitely have to find a way to restock the consoles, if they don’t they risk another disaster. This is an important year for Halo for 2 reasons this the 20 year anniversary and this is the year Infinite is supposed to be released and we are now getting monthly updates on the game. Lucky for me I’m on PC, I got one specifically for this game so I just hope the game maintains a steady population, MCC showed that the people want Halo so hopefully we do get Halo on our platforms.

First things first: Infinite’s success isn’t going to be measured on sales figures. The MP is F2P so a lot of players will get that without paying upfront. Game Pass means that a lot of players can play campaign without paying upfront. Plus the game is Smart Delivery and Play Anywhere so people can start it on an Xbox One or PC while waiting for a next gen upgrade.

All of that combined… I highly doubt console availability is going to make a difference. If someone is desperate to play only on Series X maybe it will delay them, but the incredible options everyone gets and the F2P multiplayer means I just doubt we’ll see it.

So if I buy the xbox one version it’s the same?

Free multiplayer?
RIP nobody is going to buy it than, they will YouTube the campaign instead as well.
The microtransactions are going to be insane

Also, last I remember Phil Spencer discussed somewhere that roughly around July they expected a major restock for the Xbox Series X, so a lot more people will get ahold of it by then.

People usually play the campaign to experience it themselves. I’m sure the majority of people who want to know the story of Infinite will play the game instead of watching it online lol.

Microsoft is banking on people getting Gamepass. At the moment there’s few reasons to buy the game outright unless you don’t use gamepass often and don’t want to pay the subscription. We know customization is monetized and it’s at least no longer behind loot boxes, but with the added revenue of Game Pass, im not sure Halo is going to have the sheer amount of monetization as other fully F2P games. Expect a season pass though

It’s available across 3 generations of hardware (XB1, XB Series X/S, PC).

So I think we won’t have to worry about the lack of player base. It is unfortunate that some people who want to play it on the Series X/S might not be slee to right away because of the shortages though.

If it was an xbox series only game then yes it would hurt game sales. Fortunately it’s also on xb1 and pc so no I don’t think sales will be hurt. The mp is also f2p so that’ll have more people than it ever could if it was blocked behind a pay wall like the campaign.

1080p 30fps will have to do until I can get a series X for under $700.

Let’s hope I won’t have to buy some part of infinite twice when I switch.

I think Xbox is going to try their hardest to restock before Infinite’s launch. It’s completely in their financial interest to get more on shelves and out of the grasp of bots/scalpers. Not only will it hurt Infinite sales but they will miss out on potential console sales if there are no Series systems by that time. Halo is a system seller so they both go hand in hand. Not to mention countless people who will undoubtedly want to jump in on gamepass with Infinite being free to play. Phil Spencer has been cited a few times to be pushing for more production (earlier in the year), however because of the pandemic there has been a worldwide shortage of chips + graphics cards. “They” say it will persist until at least July.

So there is a lot that is out of Microsoft’s hands here, but again this is all the while being exacerbated by the growing presence of bots. There are a ton on eBay right now for ridiculous prices, and there are even companies that exist for the sole purpose of scalping. Hopefully this lights a fire for companies like Microsoft to do something in the future to curb bots, because if they weren’t as much of an issue a lot more people would have these consoles.

The only thing you’d need to pay for is Halo Infinite’s campaign, and that was confirmed by Microsoft to be part of Smart Delivery (free upgrade). Though if you buy the disc copy and get a Series S, I don’t think that works unless you buy it digitally.

With halo inf coming to pc day one, I think any sales missed from consoles will 100% be picked up by pc for sure

Unfortunately if you do get the Series S you will only be able to get a free upgrade with a digital version, as I believe there is currently no program in place where you can upgrade a disc version of an Xbox One game to a digital version on Series S.

It’s also on Xbox One so no. Also, the game will be on PC.

The main thing from all this: MS is most certainly being extremely consumer friendly with almost all.of their strategy at the moment which is great.

The only fly in the ointment is scalpers and frankly we all have ourselves to blame for them - if we refuse to pay their inflated prices they wouldn’t have any reason to do it

PC so this argument doesn’t really affect me but good luck to those out there trying to get the console.

I imagine with any major console game release they’d have targets to have a good amount of consoles in the space for them to be sold.

Heavily agree with you here. In addition to low sales not meaning negative performance for the reasons you list, there’s also the fact that Infinites positive success will likely be based more on its longevity of living up to 343s 10 year plan and relative popularity on the Gamepass. Which are probably more healthy metrics to go by anyways, so i view this as a possibly very positive development for the industry as a whole.

No the new consoles won’t hurt the sales because the game will launch across all Xbox one consoles and PC. What will hurt Halo Infinite, if it launches in a similar state that Halo 5 did.

Absolutely. The ongoing engagement will be the true measure of success
