EDIT: For those who don’t know, a scuf is a special controller with extra buttons that you can map however you like. For example, mapping the jump button in a CoD game to one of the extra buttons so you don’t have to take your thumb off the analog stick, making it more convenient. The Bumper Jumper control setting in Halo serves a similar function, but there are a lot of features in Halo 5 that may require a scuf controller to make things easier.
You probably will need one so that you can use all abilities efficiantly. 343i has overcomplicated this game so much you need more buttons to play properly because some abilities are placed on such stupid places and 343i has never heard about button combos.

definitely not You can effectively and accurately play the game with no issue, Scuff are the top of the line controllers and are great but no needed.

Its really no more over complicated then it was before
After playing the beta I seriously considered buying a scuf or cinch (another aftermarket controller with extra buttons). To play competitively (and even to enjoy the single player game more) I think it is a big advantage. Especially being able to continue aiming while thrusting or jumping given the new movement options and verticality of the maps.

Why claw when you can play bumper jumper though. A controller won’t help you out BR a seasoned veteran. It will make you play better than the casual gamer sure, but not a hardcore Halo player who actually knows what they’re doing.

Still got face button actions to take away digits from the sticks, unless one claws or gets a SCUFF (did love the Onza Razr I did).
Now it is VERY true the controller won’t make much of a difference with pure gunplay BUT it is silly to believe we must use the current gamepad and prevent anything from changing in Halo because that’s how it’s always been.
If console eSports are to gain further recognition, the “equipment” must evolve with it. Sadly the barely used feedback triggers are not an evolution on the controller BUT allowing us to never have to take our thumbs off and even allowing every digit something to do while naturally holding the controller is “matching equipment to the sport” and certainly is evolution.
IT IS adaptation to the game.
Am I the only one ho is fully comfortable with claw and has it as his normal holding manner? I don’t really have an issue like that. Easy, comfortable.

The xbone controller is too damn small for my hands, so clawing the A and B buttons is simply not possible without it pushing the thumbstick up. I claw the X and Y buttons in firefights but they arent nearly as important as A and B so the utility is limited. Thats a microsoft problem though, they need to make a bigger -Yoinking!- controller!!!
Really, since everybody has a different playstyle that would prioritize different things, i have the perfect solution…
Customizable controls!!!
Hello, its 2015. We landed a spaceship on a comet and have drugs that can give people 4 hour long erections but we cant integrate fully customizable controls into video games? Its ridiculous!

I have a scuf and it doesn’t work for Halo. Whenever i crouch it whips a grenade. Whether it be from my scuf having paddles, or trigger stops i do not know.
