Has John ever touched a planet, planet-like structure, Frigate, or anything else with large mass and left it as it was when he showed up? NO. Master Chief likes to blow stuff up. The Shield installation will be no different. As soon as I seen the Legendary ending in Halo 3 one of the first things that popped into my head was it blowing up.
Probably. Every mysterious planet like think chief has been too has either been damaged or destroyed. The original Halo ring was destroyed, its replacement, the ark, and even a part of earth has been destroyed. Not chiefs fault though.

Every other Forerunner installation has been destroyed, I’d be shocked if it wasn’t.
I always thought Cortana was the one who liked explosions?
