Will PC release get a physical (boxed) version?

I have all the other Halo games in their boxes and it would feel incomplete without Infinite on that shelf too.

Is anyone else out there wishing for a boxed release of Infinite for PC?

I don’t think there will be a box for PC because well, Windows Store and Steam are fully digital.

This is unfortunately likely the case when it comes to PC. I personally would like a physical copy for PC as the download for Infinite will take weeks with how slow my internet is. I wouldn’t be surprised if it takes so long to download that there is already a mandatory patch update ready by the time the game finishes downloading.

There are people that make custom cases (some actually have the Steam logo on them). If you have a printer, you can print the Xbox case art and put it in the case. You won’t have the game physically, but you will have the case.

Only reason why I’m saying no is because I don’t think many gaming PCs even come with disc drives anymore… Build or buy. Unless you really want or need it.

Halo Wars 2 briefly had a boxed version of the ultimate edition for PC, but it didn’t come with a disc, just a game code for the MS Store and a steel box.

Is it weird that I’m hoping there is a limited edition which either just comes with a game code or no game at all since everything is digital now?

I highly doubt it. PC games rarely get physical releases these days, in fact most game stores I’ve been to in the last 10 years don’t even have a PC section unless they carry older used games. The last PC game I bought physically was Transformers War for Cybertron at EB Games in 2010, and even then the PC section was just a nook in the corner.

This is what I’m hoping for.

Otherwise I will have to buy an Xbox version Collector’s edition and a digital copy for PC.

Years ago when I bought COD: Advanced Warfare (the last physical game I bought), its disc contained the Steam version. If you don’t have Steam already then when you insert the disc it will automatically ask you to install Steam before it installs the game. So there still might be a chance for a boxed PC version, though I guess if it comes true it’d likely be the MS Store version, not Steam.

Highly doubtful- while demand still (sort of) exists for console games to receive physical releases, the vast majority of PC gamers have absolutely abandoned that model in favor of digital distribution. It’s rare that PC’s (even gaming machine prebuilts) even come with disc drives anymore.

343i could do something cool like team up with Limited Run Games for a very exclusive and limited release for fans of the physical experience who game on PC, but I doubt that’s a priority for them. If anything, I can see a “Legendary Edition,” of Infinite being made available to pre-order that comes with collectables and a digital code to redeem on Windows/Steam. Can’t really see them having an installation disc- and even if they did, it would have to be multiple DVD’s- On PC, the standard never shifted to Blu-ray and BR drives are even more rare than DVD disc drives on computers and relatively expensive to buy externals for.

There’s no real market expectation for 343i to run a physical PC release, and that in conjunction with the aforementioned challenges makes me pretty sure they won’t.

halo wars 2 had two boxed versions for pc and both came with discs, standard edition and ultimate edition. they came in a fold out cardboard case like a book that slotted in a cardboard box.

people think boxed version = disk

But you could very well have a box that contains a code slip.

I actually wished for something like this a while ago.

Companies can make multi-plat games with a singular collector editions but you are asked which code you want at checkout or at the till.

Say I get the collectors edition of Infinite and there is no disk but it comes with a code of the platform I chose (Steam, WinStore or Xbox)

The xbox only got a standard version by the way. Only PC got some love. Somewhat bizarre, hence why I made this thread since in HW2’s case they went all out for a PC release.

Today I learned that the HW2 steel book is Australian exclusive.

I believe you have to pre-order from a retailer other than MS store. I pre-ordered from Best Buy. They are offering a steel book case for Infinite.
