I’ve been thinking about it and it seems like a valid question to have. Seeing as how ODSTs are pretty much the best of the best of the marines in the Halo universe and how Spartan 4s are the new soldiers in town that are more volunteers than previous spartan renditions that are also the best of the best the UNSC has to offer. It seems to me that these new soldiers would replace the ODSTs as they seem more of the same if you really think about it. I just have a hard time imagining having any ODSTs walking around in Halo 4 with the new soldiers coming into play. Anyone else feeling this?
If there are any ODST’s that are Spartan IV’s now, it should be Bucky and Rookie.
I wouldn’t think so. Only a handful of soldiers are becoming Spartan IVs. So, there will still be ODSTs.

I feel it just the evolution of UNSC military before Spartans the ODST’s were legendary. Then the Spartans came around and they were better than ODST’s and thus the military will float in the direction of the most efficient methods available. I agree, I do feel that spartan are just the next link up in the chain and ODST’s are being replaced.
But Spartans are expensive so there will be ODST’s for the time being.

if they are like normal soldiers, and that blah blah, they aren’t really spartans right? they didn’t got the inyeccion for more speed and agility like the other spartans, and they are just like ODST’s almost the same.
We still don’t know the full story behind the Spartan IV’s, for all we could know, they could be like the Spartan II’s, and be mostly a ground force that is dropped into combat by drop ships. Also, ODST’s are more of the UNSC’s space combat force, who are trained for space and being dropped from orbit in drop pods.
instead of ODST’S, I think 343i is leaning more towards putting in juggernauts from COD with a redesigned forunner jungle camo skin. These units will probably be wielding something like a sentinal beam with a desert camo skin. Just saying lol

Well one can interpret from reading the books(Glasslands) that the Spartan IVs will be highly trained soldiers that are willing to become Spartans but with all that was going on at the end of the book you can definitely assume that the armor and abilities that these new breed of Spartans will have Forerunner technology to increase their combat worth so to speak. Like one person has stated above that Spartans are indeed more expensive but if you think about what I just said previously about the Forerunner technology that the UNSC has acquired may have reduced costs in making this new tech rendering ODST cost comparable to that of a IV. Another point I’d like to make to others above pointing out that ODSTs are more combat insertion teams from space which Spartans are more than qualified to do as well. Not really sure where you’re getting the info of only a handful of soldiers being picked for IVs?
Given that ODST’s are spread throughout the UNSC Navy, and Spartan IVs (for the time being) are only on the UNSC Infinity (a large ship, yes, but still one ship), S4’s are most certainly not replacing ODST’s at this time.
That’s not to say they won’t in the future however…
Although if you’re referring to gameplay-wise, how ODSTs were commonly the Chiefs human allies on the ground, then I suspect the S4’s are, in fact, taking over that role in Halo 4.

They have different roles. ODST’s are still Drop Troopers. The Spartan IV’s are recruited from all 4 branches and they have a different role.
