I have tried three times to play Halo 5 on my new Xbox Series X. MCC, other games, they load great. Is there something going on with my Xbox?
We’re all having problems across all consoles. This might help from another thread I’ve created, but could you state the issue exactly?
Server/ connection issues, join request error, stuttering etc. could be temporarily solved with (in no particular order):
- different search preferences: balanced/ expanded/ focused
- hard reset
- clearing mac address/ restart
- quitting all games/apps via guide button (quick resume feature)
- different startup modes
- checking UPnP / modem settings in general, rebooting
- different screen settings e.g. 1440p/60hz checking/unchecking ycc 4:2:2 (depends on the screen/ tv you’re using)
Reinstalling H5 didn’t do anything, freezing and crashing were always a problem, prior next gen.
No guarantee that anything will work instantly, but these are the things that worked for us.
We’ve been playing on ss, sx and one x on the same network, wired, only one or two consoles at a time.
Issues has been occurring anytime, even after few hours of gameplay and a mix of these above fixed it after roughly 15 minutes.
My game won’t load past the initial splash screen. You know, Blue Team and Fireteam Osiris on opposite sides, Locke and John looking at each other with the Guardian in the background. Im playing on a new LG 32 inch 4K monitor.
Are you getting the “took too long to start” error?
Otherwise I’d try these:
- using another screen to check if it’s console or screen related
- deleting game and transferring H5 from your old console to the SX via network game transfer on Xbox (way faster than reinstalling)
- reinstalling
Reinstalling H5 didn’t do anything for me, what I’ve mentioned before was copy/pasted from another thread.
But it could solve the problem for you if a gamefile is corrupted or something. I’d go for the transfer first to ensure that the gamefiles are intact, after the screencheck.
Let me know if anything worked. Good luck.
I am.
I network transferred everything to start with. I can always do it again. Doubt its anything to do with my screen.
The troubleshooting for the “took too long to start” error is enormous, from changing region setting to restoring factory defaults there are way over 10 fixes.
I hope you’ll find a solution across the internet.

Thanks. Hopefully.
