Will Infinite really bring in new players?

Pretty much what the title says thoughts? Do you really think that Infinite will be able to bring in new players from other games after its release? Many YouTubers have been saying this but I fear they may be too optimistic. I also think that the existing player base has to become less toxic to new players trying to find and enjoy the game if they actually WANT new players.

I think that 343 in general has lost a lot of the original player base, and that they are aggressively trying to market to a younger/broader audience and get more people to fill that gap.

It’s been a decade since I heard people actually talking about Halo. Personally I bought a 360 to play Halo 3, I bought an Xbox One to play Halo: 5, but with all the stuff that’s come out about the entire game being set in one biome, I think I’m very unlikely to buy a Series X to enjoy Infinite at its best. So yes, I do think that Infinite may bring in new players, especially with MP being free to play, but 1: I don’t think that number of players is the only metric for the games success, and 2: I think that 343 bringing in new players in Infinite would come at the cost of losing a lot of the original hardcore fanbase by focusing on cosmetics etc. over cinematics and narrative.

The game being F2P means that by default there will be a great many new players, even if it is just to try it out. The question will be if those new players stay. In order to get the new players to stay, the game has to be fun and well polished, so hopefully the delay sees to that.

That said, the gatekeeping of some older fans would not be helpful in retaining players new to the franchise.

What Halo needs the most, of course, is new blood in its community. You can surely get a good number of players with F2P, and as soon as you have good content you can keep a high number of players.

Fingers crossed.

New console + Gamepass + Free to play.

And a storyline ‘reboot’ (in that it will be new player friendly first up before tackling older narratives later).

Halo, like any franchise, will need a healthy influx of new players to continue. My gut feeling is that the fanbase needs a bit of dilution anyway. And going forward 343 will especially depend on the younger, microtransaction friendly, crowd.

Yes, I think it will. Hopefully they stick around.

In my opinion, yes. Being F2P, on game pass, and on steam on PC, millions of new players will at least play Halo Infinite once or twice.

Only if there’s Battle Royale. Otherwise, no; no it won’t.

Oh, absolutely. Especially with free to play multiplayer, and day one access on Game Pass. You can expect A LOT of new players. Will we keep those players? That depends on the quality of the game and multiplayer. I think the state of the game on release will be a big aspect as well, but with the year long delay, I expect we should be in good shape.
I am excited for all the new players, and all the old ones. Heck, I’m just excited.

If the free mode is fun then yes. That would be one of the best ways to bring in new players and to eventually buy their game. I can’t speak for the existing player base but I would imagine if you are one then infinite would have you’re attention. From halo CE to halo 5 each game has given us something different so I can’t imagine any halo fan not excited to see what 343 has to offer. When it comes to players “toxic” commentary that’s between players.

I think that every Halo game has always managed to draw in new players, whether that be people who may have only just discovered Halo for the first time or someone who finally jumps in after years of just hearing about Halo. Like others have said, the biggest test for any Halo game has always been about keeping new players around. Every Halo game has always sold well and been successful financially, so they can’t really be considered failures in that sense. It is true that Halo 4 and Halo 5 had their populations dip down faster than other titles like Halo 3, which had a very long lifespan. That being said, I can still find a game of Halo 5 relatively quickly in pretty much any playlist except maybe free for all. Being free to play and on more platforms at launch than usual means the initial player base will be large, which can only be a good thing. I do think that Halo’s style of gameplay appeals to a less wide audience than it probably did a decade ago, but I also firmly believe that there will always be a place for Halo to thrive. As long as the game is fun and well made I think the players will be there.

It will be bigger than Halo 3. Easily. Like others have said, the challenge will be keeping the players coming back for more. 343 need to retain the player base. Seasonal events, updates and new content every 2-3 months will ensure that be the case. But it needs to be fun and it needs to be quality. Here’s hoping!

It really depend on how good the game is.

The free to play multiplayer will initially draw plenty of new players. Question is will it retain decent numbers ? Campaign will probably be well received on gamepass. What about retail though ? I expect many are considering buying it, I’m personally still on the fence. I think we need more details before players commit.

How much is campaign outside of gamepass, what comes with it, what transfers to multiplayer, if anything, how will free to play be monetised, how many armour coatings are there, how much are they etc ? I could keep listing questions for hours tbh. We need details before committing to the game, both free and paid.

Like I said, free to play will fly, as will gamepass downloads. Will it retain them and will the £60 purchase be justified ? That’s something that will only become clear over time with more info.

More than ever it’s important they make a fun game because, like it or not, popular streamers these days have the power to make or break a multiplayer game. Just look at Ninja, one of the biggest names out there. He first made a name for himself with Halo so I have no doubt that he’s at least going to play it for a little bit. What really matters is if the game is able to capture his attention more than competitors like CoD or Fortnite.

While this may not be true for those of us on Halo forums, a large section of his and other streamers’ viewers are going to decide whether or not to stick with Infinite depending on how it’s received by the big names. Again, I’m not saying this is how things should be, just how they are. If the biggest names in streaming are raving about Infinite and playing for hours on end, that’s going to bring in a huge player base to the game.

I absolutely think it will draw in new players. It’s a massive mp game that’s now gonna be on PC and F2P which it has never done before. The question us will it be able to KEEP those players?

There’s never really a guarantee new players will stay, even if the developer’s intentions were pure and have some merit. There are of course some issues and long asked questions that I’m grateful 343i addressed the fans even though their answers and explanations were not what those in the fan base hoped for. As far as I’ve seen, as an old fan who’s spent most of his life with Halo, these past revelations regarding the new features and confirmed answers point out more cons than pros. In my personal opinion, it’s not a good look for Infinity.

Bring them? Absolutely.
Keep them? I really doubt it.

I think we will see a higher player base than Halo 5 and MCC with Infinite being free to play.

I don’t know ‘bout that, chief (see what I did there? ;)). Halo 3 was a cultural PHENOMENON. Unfourtantley, I wasn’t old enough at the time to see it happen, but from what I’ve heard, people were waiting and camping out at stores for DAYS to get their hands on a copy. Master chief for a time was more popular than Mr. Freakin’ SPIDER MAN. Infinite WILL BE BIGGER than previous games just from hype, but will it be as big as halo 3? I don’t think so. I mean, hopefully it will, but I don’t think any Halo game will ever reach those heights again.
