Will 343 stick to their guns and completely lock customizations behind a Pay Wall or Will they at some point have the option to earn in games credits so that people can purchase customizations.
I think that 343 and Microsoft made a lot of money already, giving the fact that the game is nowhere as good as it should be.
343 will have to fix a lot of things to have this game back on track so that it can be a good game, Fixing the Servers, BTB, Radar, Vehicles, Dysnc issues etc…
So in the future we will have new gametypes, new maps, forge, co-op campaign etc.
Will it be possible to earn in game credits or will 343 won’t allow it and keep everything locked in the shop.
Even if they had it that you can purchase just one item from the customization menu id be happy with that. I could play and grind just to earn 2,000cr just so I can unlock one piece. This I think is fair and would still make the shop more appealing to purchase bundles to get more with 2,000cr rather than just getting one item.
Polls like this are pointless.
We all know what 343 is going for by now:
They will make you spend on the Store or Season Pass. This is not going to change.
The Seasonal Events will be your one source of new cosmetics, no where else.
We can only hope they lower the price of store items because it is total nonsense pricing right now.
Even though everyone knows the answer to this poll, I think it’s BS how much 343 lied about customization to sell this new model.
I’d like to see in-game credit, but I have a feeling with this new model, it’s still going to heavenly way towards players having to still pay if they want anything decent.
Granted it took awhile for MCC to become this good, but man how does Infinite team not even just borrow the good ideas from MCC? Like how is 343 so fractured to the point they can’t even reuse the systems that work?
Without a way for us t earn credits, I really do prefer the 5 REQ system more. If we earnt credits, a lot of complaints would probably be lifted. Yeah I don’t wanna spend £10 but I’ll happily out in a few hours to get it instead.
I, at the very least, think that there is room for in-game currency rewards.
With 36 Challenge Swaps currently in my bank, I think a bunch of these could’ve been in-game currency instead for a reward.
There’s an…optimistic chance of it personally. Given that most F2P/Battle Pass modeled games do have in-game currency as a reward for just playing the game or at least progressing through the Seasons and how Microsoft isn’t a stranger to the Store/Rewards system controversy (Gears of War 5, for example), I think there’d be enough material to see changes in the earning of in-game currency as well.
However, I’m not expecting such a thing until Season 2 at the earliest.
I mean, we have several different time and exp based battle pass models that came before 343 to varying degrees of success…and they ignored 90% of that and instead initially gated nearly all progress behind arbitrary challenges of varying difficulty that we’ve had to complain a LOT to get changed to be somewhat less tedious. The only decent thing about it is that it doesn’t expire, and I’m beginning to think the only reason they did that wasn’t good will but that after it happened in the MCC, there’d be riots if they reverted to a time-gated BP.
I think if the big corpate suits put it out there that we would have to pay for another BP we would make them eat their own words when they said “once you buy it, it’s yours”
But… I can see them absolutely charging us for another BP in the future
While you can say what you want about the reasons as to why they chose to make Battle Passes last forever, I for one am very happy they did it considering other games (CoooooD) weren’t doing that. They still might not be either but I’ll need someone to confirm that for me since I haven’t touched CoD in years.
As for the making of the mistakes they have made with the F2P/Battle Pass model…as common as you may’ve heard this reasoning it is still a fact that 343/Microsoft do want to make money and I’m sure a good percentage of these issues are rooted to it, especially when it comes to Store Prices and not being able to earn in-game currencies. Hook the payees that will fork over the money for those items, make your money while you can, and then when the flow starts to trickle cut the prices.
Given what we know of the development and the alleged costs, undoubtedly there’d be pressure to not only make up for them as well as support future work on it.
But in due time I expect a lot of things to be in much better shape.
Call of Duty also lets you earn back all 100% of the currency and an additional 300 battle pass points if you complete the whole thing. Unfortunately, the trade-off for getting the BP staying forever seems to be that we get no currency.
I’m just less optimistic about us ever getting currency rewards for the Battle Pass in Infinite because of how hard they (343, Microsoft, the Illuminati, whoever is calling the shots) are pushing monetization even of basic features like armor colors (which used to be free) and making you purchase the same armor coating up to 3 times instead of having each coating be just one item that can be applied freely to any armor core.
Of course they want to make money, but many other free-to-play games have battle pass and shop systems, and many of them are more refined and rewarding than 343’s despite preceding the game.
There is that but as someone who had played through several Seasons of Modern Warfare in a row, it can really burn you out I think a rather large reason as to why I never want to touch Modern Warfare ever again is that I just got sick of it with how much of my time I had to invest to complete the Season’s BP on time - a couple which I didn’t and others I only got cause they extended the time on them.
Thinking about it, even though the fixes and such on Progression came later I think I completed Infinite’s Battle Pass faster than I did a CoD Battle Pass.
How I view Infinite is optimism with a degree of realism. Realistically, money will always be the priority but, optimistically, as money is such a deciding factor, the best way to keep getting it is to keep the consumers happy so eventually the consumer wins out.
It can create a slow and very bumpy path as Infinite is certainly having and if consumers want to bail on it they certainly have every right to and come back when there’s a better product to be had if they deem it worthy. I just hope it won’t take too long to get there and that it will be enough to win people back.
I think if there was a mutually beneficial way of earning credits, it could be a worthwhile option. For the record, I voted “Cash Only”.
I think the common argument promoting a way of earning them simply by playing is an overtly entitled and childish approach to a conversation like this. Multiplayer is a totally free experience to participate in as the game progresses, so it seems like the playerbase taking a bite out of 343/Microsoft’s bottom line in addition to full access to gameplay just doesn’t make sense.
A different approach could be to entice the playerbase to purchase an item, and then grant them access to a way of earning credits in some capacity for the purchase. I think TF2 did something like this when it went F2P, if a player purchased a shop item, it would grant them “Premium Access” and randomly grant content drops for players as they played. At least at the time, it was a pretty well received feature.
My pipe dream though would be for 343 to implement a Community Investigation System that would allow players of a respectable rank to engage in sifting through player reports to determine whether a player is cheating or simply misunderstood, similar to how CSGO’s Overwatch works. As players participate they could be rewarded credits as payment as they are actively helping out the support team by sifting through insufficient reports and passing the legitimate ones up the line to better moderate the experience.
I’m not trying to sound belittling here, but I honestly fail to see why people laud MCC’s challenge/credit system.
It feels far grindier and less rewarding than Infinite’s (current version) does. The first 100 or so levels that reward ranks ups felt fine, but after it just hits a brick wall. I understand why it was built the way it was, but it’s such a slog getting through it even if you’re not focusing on it.
It’s possible, but they will make 2000cr attainable after several months of gaming. So most would need to save up until they find the items they really really want. Most F2P make unlocking items the free route take an insane amount of time. One game I play, I’m about able to spend in-game currency on a bundle, and it has taken like 1.5 years to get enough to spend it on all 5 tiers of the bundle, because the lower tiers are crap. - once I spend it, I’m done with the game, though, lol
Other F2P games with better models give you some credits as rewards in the Battle Pass sometimes. Often just enough to be able to afford the next Battle Pass. That would have been good for Infinite especially if they were going to completely price everyone out of the shop except whales.
Even Dead by Daylight has in-game currency, even thoigh it takes quite a while to earn. Sure, you can’t buy everything with if, some of it only with Premium currency.
But if they followed the route where some of the items can be earned with a free currency earned from playing the game, I think that’d make a lot of people feel better, myself included.
