Will I be able to play Halo 5 Guardians online from Japan? I intend to buy the US version online.
I have the master chief collection JP version however it never connects to any online games. I guess it is region locked to not connect to US and EU players?? You shouldn’t region lock it as there are simply not enough JP players! Titanfall was not locked and I spent hours on that game online with US players last year.

This assumes that there exist both servers in Japan and a sizable enough population to utilize them. Ask an Australian just what the MCC’s dedicated servers are worth.
The only difference between a server and a host to the end user is that a server is more difficult to tamper with. Either way, you’re at the mercy of the matchmaking system and latency.
Thanks for the replies. I just don’t get it I used to play Halo Reach for hours and had no problems. But for MCC nothing, if Titanfall can work surely Halo should!
MCC was still worth it for the campaigns but for Halo 5 I expect Multiplayer too.
I hope you will be able to play! It’s great that there are at least some Japanese players out there! Good luck, and add me!
my gamer tag is xxthe chiefxx
It’s too early to say whether or not you’ll be able to play matchmaking. 343 does not have a very good track record with this sort of thing. I’d recommend waiting at least a few days after release before purchase to see if the game is in working order at launch.

I’m from Australia and I can tell you I don’t think I’ve played a single game of the MCC on a dedi server, I’ve begun to believe that dedicated servers in MCC are like unicorns you want to believe they exist but won’t hold your breath
The Beta of H5 (for me at least ran smooth, never had a problem connecting to games, never could not find a match and never got lagged out or booted out of a game, the H5 beta ran smoother than the MCC does still to this day and I only expect that to improve with being able to pick your data centre
-Yoink!- azure servers went online here in AUS back when titanfall came out and they’ve been building on them ever since so fingers crossed

They’re worth -Yoink-!
They have been working though - on and off - plays incredibly well when they do, worked all last week - had the time of my life.
Back to OP - don’t think copies are region locked anymore - well I hope not, not sure sorry.
There’s DEFINITELY a Japanese azure data centre though - depends on population but you will almost definitely be able to play and if not, you’ll be able to select the next best region (I imagine Australia will actually be the next lowest ping/highest population)
