Before anyone jumps on me for asking this, consider that the RTS market has gone downhill, Starcraft just released its last expansion, and HW2 is coming to PC. Obviously, Starcraft will be near impossible to dethrone as the #1 RTS, but is it reasonable to think Halo Wars 2 will gain a significant market share among RTS fans?
Well, Blizzard has said that the will be more Stacraft, just other characters and event.
However, if we are to assume that HW 2 will be close in gameplay as HW 1, I don’t really think HW 2 will come close to Starcraft 2. The problem is how extremely simplified Halo Wars mechanics are to the general PC RTS. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy HW 1, it worked well on the Console, then again I played Warcraft 2 on the PS1, and I thought that worked very well, they had even made some small upgrades to it, for instance, instead of the largest group you could select as nine units, it was 16.
Either way, hopefully HW 2 will get a large market share, as long as it is actually marketed as a well rounded PC game as well as a console game, and that it actually works on the PC Cough Cough Arkham Knight Cough.
No because unless something goes wrong they won’t even be competing in the same market
Of they want to make a true successor to halo wars it will be to a much more casual market
with CA i think HW2 is going to have a different gameplay to the original. Since its going to PC its more open to a competitive field. Now that UNSC is on its way to finding ancient human artifacts humanity is going to be a tier 2 civilisation and much more competitive against the covenent and forerunners as AH tech was something that the forerunners found difficult to counter, which now levels the playing field. So now we have potentially 3 places to play (+forerunners) it has more flexibility for a competitive field.
I think HW2 this time is gonna be really really popular. Maybe not up to SC2 but it could eventually get there since Halo is as much as big as a franchise as starcraft. Seeing how HW2 is the posterchild of XBOX1 fuse with W10, i think its gonna get huge marketing and promotion this time.

it would be cool to see the unsc marines battleing an ultralisk though lol …i think each universe is different in time esports competition for halo wars 2 if only allied commanders in starcraft could have a crossover with halo lol…i think that it takes time to position in any market…we can see other games have not feard well in time…i know sometime in the near future sc3 is going to happen but i think halo wars 2 has a shot just needs to have more e sports competition to let know gamers of the new game and new oportunity that games can experience. But thats just my opinion.
