I didn’t know how to contact 343 industries about this topic, so I felt that I must bring it to the community forums. Will Halo Reach receive any updates in the near future? every game I have played has been plagued by black screens, horrible lag, and overall connection issues. I really hope there will be some form of future updates and continued support for my favorite Halo game in the franchise.
I doubt Reach will see anything beyond a small stability or netcode patch. When Reach was ported over to the Xbox One, 343 didn’t do enough work to get it fully optimized, just barley playable. The Xbox Backwards-Compat team had to do a lot of the work to get the 360 Halos ported over to the One properly.
that is unfortunate. Halo Reach is my alltime favorite game, and to see it in such a state is truly heartbreaking. it’s still a great game, no doubt about it. it’s just sad that when I play online the game constantly has constant black screens every game.
Sadly I doubt it. Reach hasn’t been updated in a long while and the only patches were optimizing the poor backward compat launch.
really is a shame. Reach is an amazing game, and considering 343 has been tasked with up keeping all of the halo games, including the ones that made Halo famous to begin with, you’d think they’d do a much better job of up keeping the games that even gave them the chance to work on them.
I got back in to the game recently. I had the same issues, as far as lagging so bad I was stuck at the blank scoreboard, and was able to get it fixed. I logged in to my router and manually opened ports for the Xbox. The game showed I had open NAT type but doing this helped too.

Nothing beats playing on the 360 anyway. I like 360 way better than the One.
this is just sad… I mean 343 already lost my faith, and the faith of many other older halo fans, with the disaster that was Halo Master Chief collection on Launch, Halo 4, and Halo 5. you’d think they’d try to earn back the dedicated fans by fixing the old games that have been left to deteriorate… you know, the games that made Halo famous to begin with, and keep the servers up and running so they don’t lose the few dedicated Halo fans they have left. hell we all know after the fiasco that was Halo 5, they lost over half the Halo population. before anyone says anything I absolutely hated Halo 5, because the movements and the way you play is not Halo in any way. if you ask me, Armor lock may have been a pain in the rear end in Reach but at least it was a bit easier to follow than anything in Halo 5. might have gone off topic there, but I feel that it helps solidify my end point. if 343 is going to keep Halo alive, shouldn’t they try to keep the games alive that helped make Halo famous, such as Halo Reach, etc etc? it would make a lot of logical sense to me since you’re keeping older fans and veterans of the series happy while, at the same time, still making the money from your other games and keeping your game lobbies full. you know, honor the legacy of the game developers that made Halo in the first place, the guys who made the series that gave you your darn jobs?
At some point you need to stop supporting legacy and direct your resources to new projects, can’t keep supporting everything forever
Yeah doubt it will get many updates. Weirdly I don’t have any problems on backwards compatible Halo Reach

the funny thing is, which games of 343 deserve any praise, and how can I support them when all they have done is destroy the franchise I love one title at a time? you say there’s a point where you stop supporting legacy, but they haven’t even bothered to honor the games that they’re making, or even utilize any of the resources that were left behind when Bungie left Microsoft. they have shown very little interest in bringing their fan base back, and fixing the problems with Reach and the other Backwards compatible games would have been a perfect start to earn the trust of the Halo community. so in my opinion, Halo 6 is make or break for the series. to be honest, I’ve given 343 the benefit of the doubt for too long, and I struggle trying to give them the benefit of the doubt when they have blatantly ignored the fan base for so long.

Fixing Reach and the backwards compatible games won’t fix anything. The lack of population when Halo 3 was released in BC proved this. There was barely any change at all. And Reach still had a healthy playerbase even before the BC re-release.
They don’t honor the games they’re making because people hate them. If they don’t include anything reminiscent to classic Halo, they’re getting yelled at by the community.
The games may not be their best, but the lore is nothing more than amazing. I especially love the darker lore of the series… yes, I’m talking about ONI and the Flood. Bungie focused on what would make the player feel epic while 343 takes a more realistic approach. Halo 4 is a proof of this.
They switch epicness with deep lore.
While epicness is an important trait of Halo, honestly, the deep lore compensates it.
Call me a 343 fanboy if you want, but I think 343 is doing a fine job. They’re just with difficulty developing the games.
still, while they’re supposedly ‘fixing’ what they have made, yet they are also dividing the community into fragments because their entire approach to Halo is 100% different than what fans want. I am focusing on the fact Halo 5 was completely devoid of any story, the mechanics felt nothing like Halo, and the fact all the lore from the past 17-18 years in the making was thrown down the drain. not to mention their art style is… absolutely disgusting… if they wanted to keep the fan base, shouldn’t they keep the mechanics at least somewhat similar to the classic Halo games, as well as go back to the original art style? being in charge of making Halo games, surely they have the resources to make the games feel like they did in the classic trilogy. seeing as how Bungie handed all of the resources over to microsoft, surely 343 has the access to all of the resources and mechanical stuff and coding they’d need.
for example: why the hell did they turn spartans into something so cartoon like and make them into superheroes? that’s not what the heck spartans are. another example: why do the marines look like they’re wearing sheets of cardboard and something ripped straight out of an anime? don’t even get me started on every single armor piece and weapon skin being locked behind a pay to win wall. that was breaking the boundary if you ask me.
I understand that they want to change some things, but why change every part of what makes Halo exactly what it is? Why change everything? they are changing everything for the sake of change, and that’s not what they should do. they should find a formula that works and then stick with it. for example: every single map in Halo 5 has either vanished, or not been present for long. heck it didn’t even start off with half of the features or playlists Halo 5 should have started out with.
the least they can do is at least put some time, effort, and money into the games that have been abandoned for so long.that would at least satisfy some of the Halo players, like myself, who are to the point they are tired of having the games they love broken and barely playable while 343 sits there thinking they’re at the top of the world. like the ancient phrase says, even titans can and will fall. 343 is getting a lot of negative backlash and criticism from youtube for a reason you know.

The art-style is basically fixed with Halo Wars 2. It’s very likely they’ll use the mixed instead of the modern. Everyone loved that one.
Reach deviated from the Classic Halo and was made by Bungie. The armor abilities killed the classic formula in that game. The only playlist you get full classic is the “Anniversary Slayer”. Everything else has armor abilities. 343 has their own playstyle, but in a way so that it’s still possible to play Classic. In Halo 5, you can disable the new mechanics not part of the Golden Triangle of Halo, and sometimes, they’ll even make a playlist for full classic. Remember the Halo 3 Throwback playlist?
Yes, making the Spartans what they look like now was a mistake. However, I believe it’s because of the undersuit. Simply making the undersuit black gives a totally different feeling. While I can’t do anything with the plastic-like armor, it tries to retain detail like dirt and scratches, but since they’re tonned down, it’s barely noticeable. The art-style of HW2 proved they can’t still fix it, so we have that.
At least REQ packs only affected the game universally cosmetically. There’s no REQ that affect multiplayer. Warzone is meant to be a chaotic, pay-to-win, unbalanced gamemode. Every other gamemode will only change in player aesthetics. Halo 5, in general, is NOT P2W.
I think their formula consists of staying away from the classic, but still possible to replicate it. Spartan Abilities are their way.
The games are out-dated. They can’t keep supporting every game forever. Everything has an end, like it or not. The Forerunners, despite their feats, still ended. The Covenant, despite their power, still ended. Nothing is eternal.
To me, some youtubers just like to bash 343. I honestly can’t find one that isn’t like “343 kild halo becuz [insert reason here]”. To me, that’s all I hear. This is what I think:
> Bungie makes a big mistake, no one bats an eye. 343 makes a small mistake, everyone loses their -Yoink-.
They’re still trying to find a middle ground, but, just like the Sonic the Hedgehog community, the fan-base is already too divided to find a suitable style for both. However, unlike Sonic, Halo can mix them. There just needs to find balance. I came up with an idea to fix the playstyle, and that’s to incorporate all styles in the game using the Spartan projects. Here’s my idea:
- 3 classes: S-IIs, S-IIIs and S-IVs. - S-IIs are the classic, just like in Halo 3. They are the toughest but slowest. They can use equipment; - S-IIIs are the enchanced, like in Reach and 4. They have regular toughness and speed. They use armor abilities; - S-IVs are the modern, like in Halo 5. The fastest but weaker. They have the Spartan Abilities. This is the only way I think it’s possible to have every every playstyle in the game. Open to suggestions.
> Titans can and will fail
Say that to Bungie.
A point I almost forgot to cover is Halo 5 throwing the lore out the water. That is completely untrue. Halo 5 NEEDS you to know lore to understand the story. They haven’t being building the lore just to throw it down the water. 343 loves and develops the Halo lore and they do a great job at that.
The only thing I noticed was that for some reason, the iconic Auntie Dot loading screen was removed from the game. It’s really stupid, they need to put it back in.

Auntie Dot is a loading screen. If you’re playing in the Xbox One, you don’t see it because the game just loads too fast. If you’re playing in the 360, it’ll still be there. The only way it can appear in the Xbox One is if you’re playing with 360 users.
The sad thing is that it used to be on both of the consoles, now it’s gone from X One. I hope 343 brings it back.

It’s not gone. Again, if you’re playing in the Xbox One, especially on the X (like me), it loads way too fast to Dot to appear.
343 haven’t updated the game, which would be required to change something like that. Nothing has been removed. Additionally, please don’t revive old topics thanks
