The best Assault Rifles in the HALO saga are the ones from HALO: Combat Evolved & HALO 3. The version we’ve seen in the game so far looks like the version from HALO: Reach.
it’s not a bad variant - but aesthetically and aurally; it’s not as good as the OG Assault Rifle design, in both physical appearance and the sound effects it produces.
I’m not up to date on the to and fro of aesthetics… but I really like the way the H5 assault rifle plays.
It’s a nice fit for the spawning weapon. Handy at short distances so that you aren’t defenceless off the bat - but not enough that you would pass up any of the map placed alternatives.
And it looks like the audio team are putting a lot of work into the aurals. The new BR sounds they showed in Inside Infinite were awesome. Hopefully all the weapons follow suit.

Reasonable. It’s a relatively way of increasing content over time. Similar to a few older weapons appearing in H5.

I would love to see the Assault Rifle from Halo Combat Evolved and Halo 3 coming back in the upcoming Halo Infinite. At the same time, I also would love to see the Shotgun from Halo Reach and Halo 3 coming back in the new Halo video game.

Man I would love to see DLC that (through some narrative device) adds older weapons. I.e. it adds a ship in the campaign where you can find the M6D, MA5B, etc. (all the guns from Halo 1.)
I think my favorite AR would have a bulldog barking kind of sound like Halo 1, but the magazine size and accuracy of Halo 3. Then again, 60 round mags were pretty sweet…

I’m mainly hoping for the OG Assault Rifles to appear in the Campaign; as I try to stick to a pure UNSC weapons playthrough using only the Assault Rifle and a combination of the Pistol/Sniper Rifle - I swap between those 2 when the situation allows.

I tend to stick to non-Brute Covie weapons. The CE Plasma Rifle was my go to, later adopting the Carbine/NR combo with a PP/PR on the side if not a power weapon. But it finally looks like the Pulse Carbine will succeed the CE PR so I’m excited for it, it might be my primary this time around.
Though with the Banished being the forefront I don’t suspect I’ll have too many other non-brute options to work with. Plasma Pistol, Needler, and Sword at the very least. Not expecting to see the Beam Rifle, probably replaced by the new Ravager seen in the Sniper Jackal Mega Construx bundle. Maybe the Fuel Rod will still be around, or the Plasma Launcher or Focus Rifle though I doubt the two latter. And I highly doubt the Concussion Rifle or Plasma Caster will be included alongside the inevitable Brute Shot.

It would be extremely disappointing if all of the legacy weapons aren’t available somewhere in the HALO INFINITE Campaign.

No Halo campaign ever has had legacy versions of current weapons
and currently there are 0 indicators this would change in H:I.

As an Easter Egg, DLC or just a part of the game plan - having all of the legacy weapons is the only way to make combat feel like the legendary trilogy Bungie made from 2001-2007.
Having the Assault Rifle from HALO: Reach in HALO INFINITE is strange…almost like it’s a hint that other versions of it exist in the game somewhere…
