Here’s how I think the game will be like. There will be a ton of open-world segments like in Halo 1 and the game will a few parts where it’s more linear. I do not think the game will be completely open-world. I do think if they did that it’d be a disaster.
Yeah, Halo Infinite should have a more open vibe to its levels, but it shouldn’t be a fully open world game. Not only does it seem like much for 343 to handle after not proving their ability with Halo 5, but also some say the whole ring might be explorable. In my mind, that could cause a whole ton of issues that we don’t need to deal with or risk having.
Im hoping that the campaign is linear with the environment of an open world. Similar but better than Destiny’s world’s. Now I know a lot of people would not like Halo to turn into Destiny, but the games style could make sense with Halo by allowing players to return to the Halo ring in an open world freeplay.
This would allow 343 to bring back Spartan Ops, add strike missions, raids, etc, while keeping the multiplayer and linear story. A fine addition to the series I would think.
I think Halo Infinite will be at least the size of Halo: CE, but judging by the size of things in the trailer, I could see it being much larger and therefore giving you the option to explore more.

Its an engine demo, not a campaign trailer. Reach’s trailers showed a bunch of open areas too, but they were almost entirely in cinematics.

The only way the ring would be fully explorable is if they massively downscale the size of the ring. The surface area of a halo is considerable, far larger than any other open world game. And unlike most of the truly large open world games, this isn’t a fantasy setting with a hundred different enemy types to fill it with. Alot of the ring would just end up being big boring tracts of land that a developer likely hasn’t touched much. This is already a problem with current open worlds, much less something with surface area of like two russias.
I believe it will be open world it would be very interesting to see but i cant also see it as that as a halo player since halo 2 it would kind off derive from the origanal concept of the halo series but i believe if it has certain things in and how the open world is used and put in to place i believe it could be the best halo game weave seen since reach
From a purely selfish point of view I would like to see Halo Infinite being open world, and with RPG mechanics. However, that is my perfect Halo fantasy. Ever since Halo CE I’ve always wanted to be able to explore that Halo Ring. It’s always a case of we can look but not touch. In reality? I’m not sure what we’ll get, but I would not be against open world, and I would be equally happy with a Halo CE design. E3 needs to give us answers imo.
If it’s open world I get to save my money, plenty of games already fill this genre and do it well, if halo went down this road it I think it would be far more decisive than the enhanced mobility debate.
I believe it will be open world to some extent, like CE. But I wouldn’t expect it to be fully open world like RDR2 or anything. It would be great if it was fully open world and I am not against it, but it is pretty unrealistic especially for Halo.
My deepest wish is for it to be open world. Moreover, if it were up to me I would add a semi-mmo mode with our own Spartan in the Destiny style, so that it would have its own story.
Really if it were open world, or semi-open, it would not have to represent the WHOLE ring. The scale represented by the map could be decreased and thus allow the possibility of exploring infinite locations of the ring in future stories.
It seems semi open world. I’m guessing you won’t be able to go wherever you want from the start bit rather the game will slowly unlock section by section that you can explore as you progress.
A good theorist says that with open world concept, it is a canon dream because the 7th ring is one of the first types of the 12 halos. We may also see the precursors in here as well.
