Halo 5 definitely has one of the most sophisticated marketing campaigns ever, and is looking to truly shock people with it’s story. Even people who don’t care for Halo were shocked when they saw Locke hold a gun to Chiefs face. Many people are eagerly waiting to see what will really happen with Locke and the Chief, and perhaps the E3 stage demo can wow even the biggest skeptics in the crowd. *Remember, this is E3 awards we’re talking about, not the awards of the released game.
It’s Halo… It’s Microsoft’s one and only crutch for the Xbox. Do you even realize what E3 is? It’s a marketing expo. It’s not some fan-service festival like so many people foolishly think it is. Why do you think these awards exist to be awarded? The answer is: The awards are used as icing on the marketing cake. Any sort of advertisement gets to top off their slick trailer by telling people about all the “awards” it’s received…just BEFORE it’s actually released and available to you to be played.
It is truly concerning how so many people (especially gamers, and many here on Waypoint) cannot in any way discern what is genuine and what is a sales gimmick. People PAY MONEY just to bathe in advertising…it’s sad. Those of us who do see this rather obvious fact truly wish you would open your eyes, bc all of this crap and you supporting it feeds the corporate greed machines which have been slowly drowning a once incredibly strong industry in a pool of shallow eye-candy.
Awards are often given to new IP in order to “boost” their marketing campaign and so raise the sales. They don’t give them to something like Halo 5 or a a franchise that already have his fans and community.
And to anyone who wants to try telling me what I’ve said in the post above is incorrect - Why then, has Nintendo stopped bothering to appear? Do you honestly believe nobody would like to get some hands-on time with their latest games? The games that haven’t stopped reeling in 9-10 ratings since day one? Come on! They don’t appear because they don’t NEED this advertising!!! Their target market is not the same as Sony and Microsoft’s anymore. They do their own thing, and they do it damn well. They don’t hype. They produce.
I’d love for them to make a new console and games that were more so for adults. Without hesitation I’d be back in their camp. Despite my wishing they’d do so, I also recognize and respect the fact that they stay true to themselves and are the best at what they do. Xbox and PS are 3rd party driven twins, and it’s very rare anymore that a truly GREAT game is released for either one of them. 343/Halo is especially guilty of being more hype than game, but they’re all getting there…and it all starts with these stupid conferences.

Of course… I’ll say it again… it’s a marketing expo. They market to more effectively market products. What is not clear about this?

Sheesh, E3 isn’t Hitlers house party, calm down. Besides, Halo 5 will definitely get genuine awards. Not every single person is a liar.

If that’s the case, why did Battlefield 3 do so well?
Carlton is right; game awards are effectively meaningless. They’re a measure of your marketing prowess and corporate hospitality, not how good your game is.

They don’t appear because while their games play amazingly, they don’t show well at all. All going to E3 does for nintendo is showcase how poor their games look in comparison to xbox and PS games.
Nintendo has stopped competing in the arms race awhile ago.

Or maybe they’re just more concerned about having quality gameplay over quality graphics. I’ve played my fair share of Nintendo games, and I can vouch that most of them are really fun.
Wait give me a second… I’m having a vision into the future… Hmmm yes it wins the crown of all E3 games this year
Anybody watch Community? After reading a couple of the rants in this thread I feel like telling Brita she’s the worst.
Anyway, yes E3 is a big marketing expo. Yes corporations get awards to boost sales. Yes video games companies want your money. Welcome to the real world.
Now, all that being said, so what? Am I not allowed to get all excited at what is revealed at E3 because I’m being marketed to? Is marketing itself something that should be demonized? I don’t think so. Marketing and advertising is art. Sure, some of it is just shameless cash-grabs, but not all of it. And what better way to learn about upcoming products than straight from the horse’s mouth? In this day and age there’s nothing keeping you from getting on the internet and researching so you can make informed purchases.
Marketing/advertising is important. Your world without it wouldn’t be a place most people would want to live in. And besides, no marketer is going to put a gun to your head and insist that you buy their product.
Wow I’m surprised that there are people that care about corporate greed machines. Now if only they could channel that dislike into caring corporate greed machines that actually harm the world rather than on the insignificant impact of the gaming industry.
Obviously this is a marketing expo, but its not like we’re cheering for a company saying they’re going to tear down forests to build oil fields this is a place for gaming companies who build entertainment for you to enjoy.
I see no reason for us to not be excited.

Not caring about awards isn’t the same thing as not caring about E3. I’m looking forward to about a dozen games, I just don’t understand why everybody acts as though awards are important.
I should also have put into my post that nobody should care about the awards. In the end the only thing that matters is how the buyer feels about it.
