Will Halo 5 lose 80% of its player base again?

I’m not hating or anything, but it seems like Halo 5 will have some stiff completion this year. Do you guys think that Halo 5 will lose ~80% of its player base thanks to CoD and Battlefront? Wouldn’t you guys prefer a September or even a February release and maybe that couldn’t prevent something like this from happening? Same thing happened to halo 4.

I doubt 80%. Maybe 50%.

Depends on if it can hold players. A good game will keep players coming back. I do think halo 5 will fail to hold players though, there are other games that have a lot more potential to bring more to the table.

Ps. Halo 4 did not lose players because of other games, halo 4’s players left because halo 4 was bad.

If Halo 5 is anywhere near as good as Halo used to be, it will be fine. Remember that back in the day Halo rocked the gaming industries competitions for years. Even though Cod and Battlefield have upped their game (because they have, and its a pleasant surprise) Halo has always been a game with extreme potential, and even in today’s environment I have every confidence that I that potential is used, it will again rock the world. For years to come.

Lmao, ok, let’s just completely ignore that halo 4 lost players like made when BO2 came out. Nope, no connection there.

If it loses it’s base again then it’s because of Halo 5 being bad, not because of CoD or Battlefront. There was plenty of times when Halo 1/2/3 were released and yet I always came back to playing them, they always did pretty strong. Halo 4 suffered because it had a pretty bad multiplayer experience. Most people played it for the story at release and tried it for the multiplayer but the stat’s for the multiplayer plummeted after barely a few months while Halo 2/3 did amazing and even did better for CoD for a long time.

Not everything to do with Halo’s success/failure is related to CoD. People are losing faith in the Halo IP because of changes that most hate, not because of w/e CoD is currently doing when there are plenty of better games than CoD out there.

People have been getting burned out on CoD as evidenced by the sales decline in every game since MW3. Battlefront will be a tough competitor, but not every person is a star wars fan and it has no single player campaign which has put off many people. Those are the only two games I think can steal a lot of Halo 5’s player base.

I also think Halo 5 will retain its player base for longer than Halo 4 because it isn’t a CoD clone like 4 was.

I guess BO2 was a better game then.

Most hate? Is that why the halo 5 beta received wide praise?

Plus, halo 2 and 3 were before the onslaught that was MW2. No, cod4 did not take players away, it was MW2. I even remember machinimas being made about the drop in population.

Halo 4 lost players for many reasons not because of sprint or some competitive principle. Fact is, the game was just missing content that people were used to.

Forge maps were more difficult to create than in Reach thanks to no coordinates. Custom game options like having zombies in Infection use weapons other than the sword were completely absent. This disappointed many people who like to just play wierd custom games like Jenga.

Lack of competitiveness was a factor of course.

Spartan Ops lost appeal with people due to the repetitive missions in the first few episodes.

There was also a lack of playlists at the beginning and there was no playlist that offered good symmetrical gameplay thanks to the random power weapon spawns around the map. So people who wanted gameplay that was on the same principle of the originals were left without it.

Halo 5 seems to be fixing some of those mistakes and time will tell if these custom game options will return. Since they seem intent on making the game a much bigger piece of content I think it will.

With huge lag? Doubtful. Plus it was CoD, that was big at the time. Not to mention the whole competitive side of CoD was huge in BO2.

Honestly we wont know till that day comes and for now i just dont a give a rats -Yoink- its just some video game ill get over it if its not that great. and the funny thing is the population in halo 4 sapposably dropped but i never found it hard to find a match sooooooo as long as i can find a match i dont care what the population is at.

I guess the content of the game was satisfactory enough for people to sit through that lag. And COD is big and has a large competitive community for a reason. Halo 4 failed to keep its population amongst the giants as well.

Its that why halo 4 had a higher user rating on metacritic that BO2? is that shy people hayed BO2 for feeling just like the last games with hardly any change?

Wide? firstly that’s not true, there is no reason to lie to make a point.
http://i.imgur.com/Iwt3GsD.jpgAverage H5 beta player could barely be bothered playing for at least 2.5 hours while the Halo 3 beta players played for at least 14.5 hours. It would make no sense for players that liked a beta to only play for a short amount of time.
MW2 was over-rated. Halo 3 was still doing well even after MW2 was released.

It’s nice to finally hear someone offer up a realistic assessment of the H4 population decline. I’m really tired of hearing one-sided and misleading melodrama like “Sprint killed Halo,” or “Ordnance drops ruin the game.”

Oh LOL, let’s compare 2 betas that had so many variables that were different. Of course the halo 3 beta was more played, it was in the summer and it was basically one of the only FPS games worth playing on the 360 at that time.

And MW2 is not overrated. I would much rather play MW2 over halo reach, halo 4 or even the abomination halo online

Citing critics, “professional” or user, is not entirely accurate most of the time. If you notice the user rating section, their ratings are very polarised, almost always either 10’s or 0’s. And if people are upset about the lack change, then why does it keep topping the sales charts? I don’t even like twitch shooters to much, but I still understand why they are successful.

I want to know why Reach has a higher population than Halo 4.
Hmmm.

I’d rather play Reach over MW2 any day. MW2 is a terrible game while Reach isn’t the worst Halo game ever. Regardless of Summer break…it was in the holidays and yet the H5 beta lacked many peoples interests, even the forums frequently have people complaining over the beta over things like ADS, etc…
