Will Halo 5: Guardians be online-only?

With all the news surrounding Halo 5 and it’s split screen being online only I’m starting to worry the campaign itself will require you to be online just to play it. I’m not saying it would require gold but require you to be online.

Do you think this is anything at all for me to worry about? Being able to play Halo campaigns offline is a huge deal to me.

I’m pretty sure they won’t remove this functionality. Of course, I can’t say for sure, but I think that you will be able to play Halo 5’s Campaign solo while offline, just like in the past. Co-op, however, looks like it will require you to be online.

I haven’t heard anything from 343 that would give me the slightest impression that an Xbox Live connection would be required to play the campaign solo. I don’t think you need to worry about this. They wouldn’t dare do such a thing

I appreciate both of you helping put my mind at ease. Even though the split screen thing isn’t an issue for me would it really surprise anyone of this happened?

I would be surprised if Halo 5 were online-only. This has never been the case with any Halo title other than Halo Online (which makes sense). I just don’t see them ever making one of the main Halo titles be an online-only title, at least not anytime soon

Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded if the game was entirely online-only. I get that it isn’t a popular opinion give that a lot of people either have slow internet, no internet(Which strikes me as odd in this day and age, but not everyone can afford even the slowest of connections.), or just don’t want to have to be connected all the time(Which also strikes me as odd since you’re pretty much connected to the internet 24/7 on probably every other internet-capable device you own.), but a few things could be offloaded to the Cloud and possibly improve the games performance since it doesn’t have to rely entirely on the Xbox One’s processing power.

“There are those who say this day would never come…”

I want to agree with you, but after the split-screen fiasco all bets are off in terms of what 343 wouldn’t dare do lol.

I don’t think it is, there’s no reason it should be

It wouldn’t surprise me if Halo 5 was online only, seeing is how MS still seems to be trying to push this issue still somewhat, which I’m beyond tired of. This also said, I think if they did make Halo 5 online only (as in you don’t need a gold membership just have the X1 hooked to a net connection) they will hear a HUGE backlash from us.

Halo being online only? Nope ill be done with the franchise. I would have to worry about xbox live suddenly giving out, hacked or some other problem. Plus the isp who certain people have a set limit of data to download stream etc. So no, online only is a trend I’ll only do on the pc not a damn console. If this does ever happen Im going pc I have no limits there.

I wouldnt know why they would do something insane like that!

I completely agree with you.

I would be pissed off cause of xbox live being hacked like Christmas last year and if you look at titanfall and destiny those two are good examples of online only games is a bad idea

It looks like the entire game but solo campaign is online only.

Necrothread is necro.
