Will Halo 5 die when Halo 6 releases?

Every Halo game always has a population, even Halo 3 despite being over 10 years old. However, it seems that Halo 5 is… curious. The thing is, I fear that Halo 5 will ACTUALLY become a ghost town, unplayable due to the lack of population. This is the most hated Halo game of all time, everywhere I go, there’s thousands of people saying how bad it was. It’s just a simple fear, nothing too extraordinary. But what are your thoughts on this? Do you think Halo 5 will become a literal ghost town? Do you think there will still be a loyal playerbase keeping the game alive? Or it’s so much speculation that you can’t answer?

i think it definitely will, if its not dead already.

Its already dead son.

I have to wait 5+ minutes sometimes over 10 minutes to find a game of infection so it is already pretty much dead to me I can’t speak for the rest of the community because I only play infection but if it’s not dead already halo 6 will probably kill it

The only reason anyone still plays Halo 5 is because we haven’t had a new FPS Halo game in almost 3 years. A lot of the die-hard fans have already gotten every REQ item and hit max level, and Halo 5 unfortunately isn’t enjoyable enough to play without something to work towards. I haven’t even hit max rank or gotten all the REQ items and I’ve been tired of Halo 5 for a good long while, and I am a die-hard Halo fan. A lot of people have moved to other games, the MCC, classic Halo games, or Halo Online. The announcement of the next Halo game (whether it be Halo 6 or a spin-off) will be the final nail in the coffin for Halo 5.

Edit your comment and remove the Halo… whatever. It’s not hate, I would love to play it, but it’s simply not allowed here, even to mention it.
Maybe my thoughts. From my perspective, the people mastered Halo 5 way too easily, like, with no challenge whatsoever. I’ll just hope Halo 6 at least gives us something that encourages us to continue to play it, like real challenges, just like in Reach. I don’t really know what to say. I’m completely speechless and I’m not liking what I’m feeling about this.

Not liking what you’re feeling about what exactly? Halo 5 and it’s downfall or what?

Halo 5’s downfall. I enjoyed it alot on PC, but I didn’t have and still don’t have a XONE so I couldn’t and won’t experience Halo 5 like how I should have, just like Halo 3 and Reach. I’ll hope I won’t miss Halo 6.

Yeah not having an Xbox One really limits your Halo 5 experience, you may not be able to experience it’s multiplayer in full when you eventually do get an Xbox One. However, you won’t really be missing much. You still can experience Halo 3 and Reach, as they still have a population, unlike Halo 5. I know you really like Halo 5, but it’s not as refined as the classic Halo games, so don’t beat yourself up over it.

Sadly. I still play Reach multiplayer and only really play Halo 3 because of the campaign. I’m very aware I can still experience them, but I was talking about when they were at their peak, with lots of players coming together and having a blast. I had only gotten my 360 back in 2013 when Halo 4 was still being supported.

Assuming Halo 6 is Halo 5 with some polish, tweaks, and a complete game (unlike Halo 5 at launch), then population will probably dip quite a bit. Judging by the upcoming changes in the HCS playlist, I’m pretty optimistic that Halo 6 will have a good multiplayer experience. For the campaign, they’ll have to pull a rabbit out of a hat.

Yeah, it’ll be the final nail in the coffin. There’s not going to be much of a replayable game once Halo 6 comes out. I mean, the only thing really keeping Halo 5 alive right now is the competitive scene and the HCS

I understand what you’re talking about now, but more Halo games will release and you’ll experience them in their primes hopefully.

Isn’t that the natural conclusion? Plus you’ll be forced to uninstall it because the H6 file will be even larger! In the end you’ll only have room for one on your hard drive lol.

As repetitive as H5 plays yeah it will be a very vacant game once H6 drops.

Halo 5 (and I suspect future halos) will also suffer population wise by people who need to have the game updated every single month to keep them content. For them, any game can get stale without new content and once the devs start working on the next IP and support stops, so does a portion of the population. That and what everyone above outlined will leave Halo 5 nothing more then a ghost town maybe even before Halo 6 or whatever is next.

There are still people playing the original H4 so I don’t think it will die in the literal sense.

I played on Xbone, hit SR150 and completed reqs and commendations. Then I sold my Xbox and played H5 on PC. I had just as much fun on PC playing custom games and simple slayer. No req grind, warzone farming, or rank stress, you just play light hearted games and shoot stuff. Other than playing through the campaign once you didn’t miss anything amazing on console. Also I thought I read H6 would be on PC? Either way I think H5 will suffer a huge population drop when 6 launches.

Whenever you say you want classic Halo and people tell you to go back and play ‘X’ game, it isn’t that simple, with every Halo game once the new one releases it’s only a matter of time before it’s dead, it’ll be no different than 5 (which i think has been dead for some time comparatively).

Unless Halo 6 is unplayable due to bugs on launch, bad matchmaking, horrible ranking, etc then I honestly believe this will be the one halo game that dies after the launch of the new title
