It seems as though Halo 5’s players are already dwindling, and with the upcoming release of Destiny 2 I can’t help but wonder if Halo 5 will die. I’ve been playing Halo 5 for about 10 months, and honestly I’m a bit sick of the crap with the servers, REQ system being down, people leaving games and getting farmed. I’ll probably pretty much cease Halo 5 and switch over to Destiny 2 until the next Halo. I can’t help but think many more will do the same, and Halo 5 will become a ghost town.
I still think 343 could keep some players around if they’d add some more content, I mean at least I would be occupied a little longer.
Curious to see what you guys think.
i never played the first despite having free access and dont think ill play the second. halo is an exclusive and the ps4 is the superior console for destiny
I will keep playing Halo 5, I don´t really like Destiny, it requires a lot of time.

Not to mention battlefront 2 will also

Yeah, if you play Destiny on Xbox you have to wait like a year to play the new DLC´s, that´s just ridiculous.
I’ve invested too much time into Halo 5. I won’t be budging until Halo 6 comes out.
I’ll be playing a ton of Destiny… and especially so if the support train for H5 continues down the same path.
My heart lies with Halo but man, it’s becoming so hard to support this game via feedback at this point… it’s just so filtered and selectively inputted/applied. All of the casual social playlists/new associated maps and content, but long-time fans and traditional players can’t even get permanent Oddball… or KOTH, etc.? Adjustments to map rotation, new Arena Forge content?
And the online experience as a result, is so stale at this point, with little being done to address the issue, when there are obvious solutions just waiting to be incorporated… it’s just so frustrating.
I think we will see a drop in the number of low leveled players, but those of us who have put in over 1,000 hours and are still going will probably continue to stick with Halo 5.
I think Destiny 2 will take a huge chunk out of the Halo 5 population. However, Halo 5 will not die. Just like Halo 4 has not died. Halo Reach has not died. Halo 3 has not died. MCC has not died.
What do I mean? Matches can be found (at least here in Seattle, prime time) any time I go to play.
To me, that means it’s alive.
it better not. halo = 10x better than destiny. 20% cause destiny takes forever.
Halo 5 will be fine. They’re entirely different games.

That’s debatable. There are only 3 or 4 playlists still being played, only 2 of which actually have matches to join.
No, definitely not. Destiny is in a different genre as a game despite its vague similar feel to halo. Destiny was initially intended to be a PVE game mainly with a PVP component as well. However towards the end of the House of Wolves DLC the focus shifted to PVP more when it came to balance (insert feeble attempt at competitive pvp). The problem here is that PVP in Destiny is based on random luck and does not promote a level and fair playing field based on skill like Halo always did.
Each weapon having a set of perks and the fact that the same weapons used by two different players are not the same creates inconsistency. Perks like Last Round, Holding Aces and luck in the chamber introduce heavy randomness and luck when it comes to firefights. Its sad that people in Destiny pvp think they are good when they use crutch perks to get the upper hand in a firefight. Here is an example: Two players, both have Hawkmoon, both shoot each other the same amount of times, however, one of them gets lucky and luck in the chamber or holding aces procs. Where is the skill? Too many weapons in D1 behave like this. Now add in the differences in how supers and abilities work it creates a pretty inconsistent playing field.
Another good example are the shotguns in destiny. A shotgun with perks like rifled barrel and range finder will always provide an advantage over shotguns without those perks. Given how RNG works in Destiny you will always have players who are “Lucky” to have gotten that god roll and those that have the exact weapon, but with crappier perks.
Now they did good by equalizing the perks in D2 so each weapon will always come with set perks. Some argue against this, but this is the first step for creating an even and fair playing field. Only time will tell here, but slowing down the pvp in destiny could help it drastically.
On to story:
Bungie shot itself in the foot with D1 when it came to story. The beta for D1 was a real Beta, the part they screwed up was in providing an actual story and lore that at least explained basic elements that nearly every other game covers. D2 beta on the other hand is not a beta. Its the same demo that people got to play at E3 this year. Not to mention if you actually played the D2 beta it feels more like a post alpha pre-beta build. the game releases in two months, most of the balancing and basic tuning should already be done by now with only fine tuning and network stability to be solidified left to do before release. However they even said that the weapons have not been balanced and may seem weak among other aspects. They claim to have emphasized the story more, but is there lore? They even came out and said that more content will be pushed out faster which sounds great at first. But this only works if you have a full team dedicated to making great content to be released. If you’re familiar with GuildWars 2 their living world pushed out content every 2 weeks. It wasn’t much, but it was something and people eventually didn’t care for it because it wasn’t engaging and memorable. So by the time Heart of Thorns came out they announced that content will be released every three months to improve the quality of it.
Anyway this is getting long, point is Halo = PVP focused while Destiny is PVE mixed with PVP. Most play Destiny for PVE and use PVP as a fall back to change things up. Don’t know if you keep up with the forum posts there, but many have already complained how the PVE in destiny is suffering from Bungie’s focus on attempting to balance PVP and make it competetive by listening too much to streamers and so called “pro’s”.

Same here besides I don’t really like it the first one to be honest
I hated the 1st Destiny. Rng and the story ruined it for me. Halo 5 rng doesn’t even compare.
Will COD BO III lose players when COD WWII comes out?
Will Rainbow six siege lose players when the next battlefield title comes out?
Will an old game get older when a new game releases?
Yes. that’s how it works.
There’ll be a slight drop in population, sure, but new games do that.
On the other hand, maybe not with Destiny 2. They don’t seem to give a darn about the Xbox players so it might not affect the game as much as you think.

I am exactly the same way.
Personally, I’ll still be playing Halo 5. I tried Destiny out and then just gave up. I never finished it, so unless I go back and finish the first Destiny up, I am not budging.
People kept saying that when Destiny’s last DLC were released. And Battlefield 1, and Call of Duty.
Apparently Halo 5 should have died a lot of times.
