Will Halo 4 live up to its predecessors?

I feel a wave of excitement and nostalgia for this game. It reminds me when everyone got hyped up for Halo 3 when it came out.
343 should pull a Resident Evil 6 and make the date earlier, its killing me!

Anyways, I personally think it will live up to the past games, if not succeed them due to the fact that its Halo, they have a rich backstory to work with, and that they’re evolving the multiplayer with new and interesting features.

ITT: Discuss why or why not it might be a flop or a win.

Well, 343 appears to be taking the series in a direction Bungie never did. No slander of Bungie, but all of their previous efforts felt mildly tame compared with what we’ve seen of H4 thus far; incredible graphics, a character-driven micro-narrative, John talking ingame, innovative new enemies, an incredibly interesting, narrative-driven, episodic co-op mode, and some intriguing changes to traditional competitive play.

I’d rather it be a Watershed Moment for the Halo series rather than it trying to live up to Halo3.

Not really, you couldn’t be more false.

Honestly, and this is my personal opinion. Halo 3 never lived up to Halo 2’s legacy. I’m not trying to start a war, but that is how I think of it. I’m wondering now, will Halo 4 outdo Halo 3?

Graphics - They get better over time. It’s not Bungie’s fault they didn’t have to work with what 343 has. 343 doesn’t have awesome graphics because they’re good at coding or whatever. They have awesome graphics because the industry standard has progressed that far.

micro-narrative - Chief has been “chiefly” by his lonesome in the Halo games due to his mercenary-esque nature in that he goes wherever the UNSC needs him only as long as it takes him to complete his task. Cortana has been there, but it isn’t until now (apparently) that she’s really been all the interesting to the point where a micro-narrative was needed.

And, Halo has always been a character driven narrative in the form of Master Chief’s story. Yes, you learn about the War and what’s going on canonically but you see it as Chief saw it and you experience what he experienced. Just because Chief wasn’t the most overtly characterized character doesn’t make him less of one.

Master Chief talking - He does this in other Halo games…

“Innovative new enemies” - Teleporting is innovating now?

Co-op mode - I mean, I guess.

“changes to traditional competitive gameplay” - There’s a difference between changing and tweaking traditional competitive gameplay, and totally getting rid of traditional competitive gameplay in favor for the industry standard (which will end up earning you more money).

I’m pretty sure the campaign will be very dramatic and will live up to the other halo’s. The multiplier, which i have a little worry to it as it looks like a different game feel to it. To much new stuff? lack for a better words.

In terms of the Campaign, at least, I think it will be the best Halo game yet. Spartan Ops will also be one of the truly special things to happen to the series.

I agree to a degree, 343 has done far better then I first believed but you can’t just count out Bungie. When Bungie released Halo CE they had no idea how popular it would become so they did not design Halo to be a trilogy and had to basicly make it up as they went along where as 343 has the next trilogy already planned out. I would not be surprised if they already have a fair idea of how Halo 5 and 6 will begin and end.

It will be almost impossible to live up to the first two. Those two games were a huge part of my childhood.
