As you can see here Halo is still “in the game.” Shocking to some to say that “Barely any people play it anymore.”
But yes, this is only the present, but how can it affect the future?
If Halo: Reach was considered a failure in the eyes of a lot of Halo fans and it still manages to border the top five games played on Xbox Live, i’ll take it.
Lets consider the upcoming games for 2012, specifically shooters. If you read here you will find some of the upcoming shooters. The only ones that seem like a real threat are Borderlands 2, Mass Effect 3,and the traditional yearly reprint of the last Call of Duty game with a new name and storyline.
If 343 does everything right with advertising, game release date, fan interaction, etc. Halo 4 can easily become a sales boom in the first couple of weeks. Thats the first step, buying the game. If they can amp up the replay value this will benefit it as well. If 343 brings back competitiveness and a solid story mode the fanbase will continue to rise.
We can only wait and see. I hope Halo 4 will be better than Reach, but i have faith in 343, they have a solid team.
Ok, back on topic. Halo 4, like all others before will be in the top 5, possibly 1. But it my not last for long, but all i know for sure is, yes, to some degree.
> FIFA 12… really?

Well, even Reach was number 1 at some point. We want it to stay there instead of being hogged by 50 duplicated Call of Duty games…
> This is rather off topic, but why is FIFA number 3? Seriously, a soccer game?

Soccer is world renown and the worlds #1 sport. And have you ever played it? It’s addicting as hell. Literally.

Not a sports person. And I’ll guarantee that most of that population is not American.

Eh, a lot of European countries are into soccer. America is more obsessed with football. I don’t like either, but soccer is the lesser of the two evils to me.
it surprises me that fifa is behind BLACKOPS, soccer is the worlds most popular sport, if you live in america you might not be familar with how popular the sport really is.
also, im surprised reach is still second to BF3. I wonder how much longer that will go on, like its been said already though,
halo has more competition now more than ever, and this is only consoles were talking about.

Another thing to take into consideration is that the people that have heard about Halo 4 or purchased Halo CEA might have been turned back to Reach seeing that its the most populated Halo game and they want a taste of it once again.

Like i said… you would be surpised… the majority of my town and the neighboring towns are Portuguese and Albanian. Plus, i do play soccer myself and its really all i hear about.

You have to take into consideration that the demographics are different in different areas though. Overall America is not really concerned with soccer. I hardly ever hear about it.

True. But still, in other areas it might be different. And it is world renown which is why it is so dominant on Xbox Live.
People who say Reach killed Halo are talking out of their proverbial backside. Reach’s lower player count is due to a wide variety of reasons - the idea that its “not a Halo game” is just the forum cycle of users complaining that the game isn’t like the last one.
Reason 1 (Main Reason) : The gaming “landscape” if you will has changed dramatically since Halo 3. Call of Duty of course, being the obvious example but the fact remains that there is a LOT more shooters out now, which of course means players get more and more divided up.
Reason 1B: The standard FPS formula has changed too, as has the dominant player base. People flock to Call of Duty because its easy to get into, and has a comphrehensive reward system to prevent players getting aggravated at the game and disowning it as well as adding incentive to continue playing. Halo simply does not do that.
Reason 2: The Player Counter you see in the Reach menu and the one in Halo 3 work differently. 3 has total players in the last 24 hours whereas Reach is real-time. So the perception gets slanted as well.
In short, Halo isn’t dead. It’s just missing in action.

Plus Bungie’s departure has created another schism among the Halo community. There’s the people who enjoy the old Halos and the people who enjoy Reach. And now there’s the people who support bungie and who dont support them, but 343. Or has it always been like that…?
